Loune that was FAPE (Fair Appropriate Public Education). She told the story of a woman who said, “The school does not need to teach my child FAITH because I teach that at home.” It was a story of how acronyms get misunderstood and should be spelled out and explained. Public schools, especially “Special Ed” or “Exceptional Students” programs, are rife with acronyms.
L[sup]2[/sup] hope the MIL is ok. Prayers and good thoughts headed her way from Jawja.
Everybody else, hey and stuff. I’m off shortly to [del]torture[/del] test some more today then I get to go to Vienna, Jawja for a meeting. Envy my exciting career people!
Lissa, hope all is well with the MIL.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I’ve already opened my presents. That’s one tradition the wife and brats brought from Russia. You open them all first thing in the morning. That’s the kind of thinking I can go along wiht, ya know?
I got exactly what I expected: Lots of gift cards for books stores. Welby’s gonna be doing some reading in the next few weeks, yes he is!
Loune, that’s hilarious. My usual fancy restaurant smart remark is something like “I’ll have an ice water, and keep it coming until someone passes out, then just bring it to me.”
rosie was the baby the 3 pm thing you were waiting for?
I got nuttin’ else except a very Happy Birthday to welby.
5 pm actually. but I still won the bet with my cousin ( I forgot to set the value of the wager with her! :D)
If you forget, and win, it’s always a complete housecleaning and lawn mowing. Better tell her so she doesn’t make any plans fo rthe weekend.
I’m home, probably not dying, but definitely not feeling particularly chipper. I’m thinking maybe it’s not my sinuses after all, but the Plague, or a cold, or something. Acetaminophen doesn’t help. Hot tea doesn’t help. Even chocolate didn’t do anything. So I’m gonna try to nap a bit.
For the record, I’m a cranky patient. I’ll be whiny and crabby for a few hours at least. I’m still nice, dammit, but it’ll be hard to tell for a while. <snuffle snuffle>
I’m so glad you asked, gt. I woke up this morning to perhaps the sweetest email known to man:
Dear Victor Parkinson,
I am pleased to inform you that the Admission Committee of the Faculty of Science of the Universiteit van Amsterdam decided that you can be admitted to the Master of Science Programme in Theoretical Physics starting in September 2006.
Attached is a copy of the letter of admission. I will send the original to you by regular mail.
Yours sincerely,
Dutch Guy,
Programme Officer.
In other words: I JUST GOT INTO AMSTERDAM!!!
There aren’t enough in the world, so I’ll just leave you with today’s Condiment before I head off to class …
Wooooooooooooooo Spats! Congrats! If you’re already there by the end of August, we’ll have to hang out while I’m on vacation!
Hope everyone who’s sickly is feeling better, congrats to rosie on the new niece (why do I always spell that wrong the first time?), and Happy Birthday Welby!!!
Doctor’s visit last night was pretty much the same as all the others–I’m getting really sick of that damn ultrasound, and there’s more to come. Anyhoo, the smaller of my cysts has almost completely disappeared–they do that, and that’s what the doctor was hoping for. The larger one hasn’t gotten any bigger, so that’s good. The doctor at the hospital who read my cat scan completely neglected to mention my appendix in the report, so my doctor will be calling him later today to make sure he saw my appendix and there’s nothing wrong with it, just to cover all the bases.
Anyhow, there are four possible outcomes–the cyst goes away all by itself, the cyst has to be removed, the cyst bursts which will hurt but not awfully, or the cyst bursts and hemorrhages and that’s bad, but not life-threatening. Basically, we’re hoping for option #1. Anyhoo, after this cycle (which is stupid and late because I’ve been all stressed out), I go get another ultrasound (the do-it-yourself kind at the hospital). Then after the next cycle, if the cyst is still there, they’re going to go in and get it.
Until then, I take some Advil and suck it up. Ah, modern medicine.
Congrats, Spats! <flinging confetti in wild and reckless abandon>
My Goodness!! Looks like we need to bleach the MMP again. Tsk! Tsk! Where do all these nasty bugs come from! Be careful of that new baby there though. Ain’t he cute? Don’t you wonder what they’s little minds is thinkin? Like “WHOA! What is this place? Hey, lookit all them giants! Is that Mom over there? That’s Dad? YIKES!! What did she see in that grizzly”
Today is MY Friday. Envy me. The fun is over after this week, though. Have used up alla the extree vacation days.
Tomorrow is Mr. Anachi’s 49th birthday. (Why, yes, he is younger than me. What’s your point? ) For somebody who nearly didn’t make it to his 49th birthday, he is being very cranky about it. I told him I was gonna be in Italy next year when he turns 50…ALONE!..if this year is any indication of the cranky scale.
I will make him some barbacue chicken for dinner tomorrow night. That should help.
Tupug
Wow, Rifty!!! That is absolutely fantastic! Woo-hoo!
Happy Birthday, Welby!
FCM, I hope you feel better soon. I stayed home today, too. Terrible stomach cramps. Ick.
Happy Birthday, Rosie’s grand-nephew!
SCL, I hope the withdrawals from hockey aren’t too bad, and that the summer will fly by!
Lissla, I hope your mom-in-law will be ok.
On preview I see rifty’s good news! How thrilling!! Oh, and stay away from the green tabasco. It is like Crack.
That is all.
Rifty! That news is way beyond excellent! WOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOO! I’m so happy for you!
LL, I hope your MIL is doing better and you hear news soon.
**rosie, ** many congrats on the new addition to the family. Babies are cute, but I am so very glad I’m done.
FCM, I hope you get to feeling better. What you require is DARK chocolate for the anti-oxidants! And…chicken soup, and being waited on hand and foot!
welby, I’d be in heaven if I received gift cards for bookstores. I love to read! That’s what I always tell everyone to give me.
Drae, I hope the cyst situation resolves itself very soon. It’s sucky to be in pain.
Yesterday work was ick for me too. It’s shaping up to be more of the same today. Blech!
Mr. Taters has the next couple of days off, the lucky so and so!
Congrats spats!!! Woo!
I thought of you at the gym this morning. There were at least a dozen hotties and like 2 unattractive guys. You really should hit the gym at 7 or 7:30 because the odds are MUCH better than anywhere else on campus.
Sorry about your MIL, Lissla. You and Mr. Lisslar are in my thoughts.
Congrats on the new grand-nephew, rosie! Adorable!
I hope everyone who’s sick feels better. And everyone who’s having other problems… well, that the problems get better too.
I’ve got a phone interview for a job that I really really want at 3 this afternoon. I’m already freaking out a little bit. I think I’m more prepared for this than for any interview I’ve had in a long time, but boy, do I hate the whole process. I get so worried about every word I say.
And then the HR person called this morning and wanted my salary requirements. I know you’re not supposed to give them a number, so why do they do that?? It just freaked me out more than I already was freaked out. I really really want this job!
Everyone please send good thoughts my way around 3pm (EST)!
Sending best wishes your way for a successful interview!
Best of luck to you! and…BREATHE…you’ll do great!
Happy Birthday welby!
Go Spats! Woohoo!
Thank you for the good wishes. She’s only about fifty-five or so, and although she’s had nerve problems she’s generally in pretty good health. Unfortunately we also think that’s she’s a bit of a hypochondriac, and since she seems to be okay, we’re worried that this will make her…become overly scrupulous about herself.
All the time I’ve known her she’s had a consistent projected image of herself as very frail and delicate. She believes wholeheartedly in a lot of woo-woo alternative medical garbage, and has a mostly made-up list of food allergies the length of your arm. I say made-up because I have witnessed her eat everything she claims to be allergic to with no ill effects.
Anyway, we’re worried both because of a possible reoccurance, and also because of the effect this might have on her self-image.
FCM, it might be the cold/flu that’s going around here. I haven’t got it, but Mr. Lissar, three co-workers, both my parents, and my upstairs neighbours got it. Must have got through the internet cable somehow.
Impossible. You just haven’t had enough.
Taters, I’m the same way. People don’t even bother to ask me what I want for my birthday or Christmas, they know the answer.
I’m thinking my birthday loot will be spent on history. There’s a whole bunch of books I want to read.
I love history! Do you focus on a specific era, or do you appreciate all eras?
I love anything to do with ancient history and ancient people, but appreciate more current history too. While I can sit down and read a bone dry history book (I’m currently working on one), I like historical novels with references to real people and real occurrences (or actually about real people and real place).
susan needs to come in here and tell us about HER 3pm thing. I know being the Evil Twin I should intuitively be able to know these things, but I don’t!
