A Happy Birthday MMP

Ugh, blurf, feh, and hnork

Cold still here, overstaying its welcome, which was pretty much over when it came a-knockin’ anyway. Bought more Nyquil pills. (I hate the liquid.) They work well at least, but they knocked me the hell out last night. Didn’t wanna get up this morning. I did reschedule my dentist appointment for a week hence, so hopefully this cold will be gone, or at least punching out by that point.

I had Awesome Pasta last night. That’s pasta (in this case, Farfalle, or bow-tie pasta) with a sauce made by my work-local supermarket. I don’t know what they put in it, but it’s like this garlic affair with fresh basil leaves and other stuff, but they don’t load it down with salt like most commercially canned or bottled sauce, so you can taste the tomato and blend of spices, and it manages this Awesome balance of flavours that I’ve got to figure out how to duplicate. The only problem with it (apart from the fact that it’s a bit pricey, especially for a store brand) is it’s one of those unprocessed sauces that doesn’t bind well, so if poured over pasta alone you end up with a puddle of water at the bottom of the bowl that separated from the tomato puree. You need to add about a tablespoon of flour to help soak up the water and bind it all together nicely. But once you do, it’s truly Awesome pasta sauce.

As for dreams, I rarely remember mine these days. I’ve had some truly bizarre and very vivid dreams in the past, but none in recent years – none more than images and impressions and several second snippets with no context anyway. Wish I could though because some of the dreams I have had in the past were freaky-cool sometimes.

Kinda. Or maybe a little bit the “swampbear” of my workplace. Mostly I take pictures of things and describe them and hide in my cave (as my boss calls it). About the only time I’m called out of hibernation (as he calls it) by him is when some customer is cruising for a problem and needs shown the error of their ways. I used to work for Harley – I can be scary when its needed.

I’s called in sick today. Sick from lack of ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, actually. Had a fire page and an unrelated 2nd crew bambilance run that had limited me to about 2 hours by the time I got home at 0330.

Pie, I love Vietnamese cuisine. Can you dream some my way that’s been made in a proper kitchen?

:: waves as she zooms by, covered head-to-toe with hand sanitizer::

My hubby’s sick, too… I donwanna get sick!!!

I love Bones. :o

So Nava, is that why any instructions I’ve ever gotten that had been translated into English make absolutely no sense? The translators can’t follow directions? Great.

The borscht last night turned out awesome! The stock from the smoked turkey was perfect for it.

Work’s kinda unexpectedly busy today. Which is kind of good. But I want more internet time too! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m going for a smiley count record.

Went to see the gynae today - the good news is I’m not going to die any time soon! I will be having outpatient day surgery this Saturday to carve out most of my cervix, but seeing as the alternative was a hysterectomy, this is not so bad. At least this way, I only need about a week to recover and will be up and about in time for Christmas shopping. The hysterectomy would have meant 5 days in hospital, followed by a MINIMUM 3 weeks convalescence. Not to mention - a HYSTERECTOMY??? I’m 36, fercryinoutloud!!!

In more exciting news, I conceded defeat and bought myself a crockpot yesterday. Any tried and tested slow-cooker recipes will be gladly accepted. Today, I christened it by making the most divine Chicken Stroganoff known to man!!! To wit:

3 FROZEN skinless, boneless chicken breasts (about 1lb)
1 (10 3/4oz) can cream of mushroom soup
1 (1oz) package of onion soup mix
16oz sour cream
1 (14oz?) can mushrooms, drained and rinsed
1 (4 1/2oz) can tomato paste

Dump the FROZEN chicken breasts (yes, still frozen - I know, I know, just trust me!!!) into the crockpot. Mix the remaining ingredients together in a mixing bowl then pour on top of the chicken. Put the lid on and cook for 6 hours on medium/low. After 6 hours, remove the wonderfully moist, tender chicken and shred with forks, then return to the sauce. Stir until all mixed and delicious. Serve over fettucine, or rice, or mashed potatoes, or just spoon it straight from the pot into your gob! YUMMM!!!

I know the MMP has some cream soup haters in its membership, but please trust me that this does not taste like a soup mix - this tastes like heaven!
P.S. I like Bones too!!!

Up and around but feel brain-dead today.

Sorry I missed your birthday, Meeks. Happy belated.
Dotty, I love my crockpot, especially for chili, pot roast, and stew. And cooking lots of beans. I’ll try to come up with recipes. Do you know http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/ ? She’s awesome. A year of slow cooking recipes.

Crock pots are awesome. I make a killer 6-hour crock pot chili, and I’ve done melt-in-your-mouth pot roasts, too. I will never, never use canned mushrooms. That includes cream of mushroom soup. I don’t know what they do to those poor mushrooms to preserve them in the can, but they taste like satan’s toe jam after a 15K run across a lake of fire followed by a long soak in a warm tub of Glenn Beck’s flatulence. I’ll only ever use fresh. I do like other cream soups though, particularly cream of celery. I’m kind of weird.

Had tuna noodle casserole au gratin for lunch. (Frozen weight watchers thing) T’was pretty good. Clock watching now for Quit O’Clock.

Well, dang, MinDude don’t hold back. Tell us what you really think of cream of mushroom soup! :stuck_out_tongue:

Dotty everything in a slow cooker/crockpot turns out good. I have several of varyin’ sizes and they get used a lot.

Howdy Y’all! Two down and three to go! It’s rainy, dreary and ick outside today. Chicken noodle soup is simmerin’ away. I made this on the stovetop rather than slow cooker but it will still be nummy! Plus, I have some sweet N.O.T. bakin’ just cause.

Ruble I wish I had me a cave to hide in at work. I am jealous!

I am hungry and sleepy and cold. (And whiny)

I had mine at 35. It was nice to be rid of the monthly visitor, but the hot flashes were no fun. I was also really bummed about not being able to have another bebeh (I’d been on fertility drugs when they had to take all my parts) but what the heck - such is life.

What a grey, dreary, icky, cold day it’s been! On the other hand, I was mega-busy at work and my day just flew by.

Hamburgers for supper, because they’re quick and easy.

That’s all I’ve got for now. I’s tahred…

Recipe added, Dotty. Sounds yummy. Can you share the borscht recipe, too, taxi? I still need to go back and find Taters’ spoon bread recipe from last week and add it.

I get to play hooky tomorrow. Yay!!!

Glad that the medical news wasn’t too bad, Dotty.

I think I forgot to wish Meeks a happy birthday.

I mostly like Bones too. They had a bunch of shows last year that I thought were awful, but this season has been much better.

Gotta do a bit of cleaning and think about dinner. Little brother is supposed to be here around 7 (his lunch meeting tomorrow got moved to breakfast, so he’s getting here tonight).

Hugs and get better vibes…

GT

Dotty I forgot to say glad the news is better than you thought it’d be even though it’s not great. Well, the fact that you’re not goin’ to die anytime soon is great.

I make gooooooooooood soup! I’ve said that already haven’t I?

I just realized today is December 2nd! Where does the time go! I have to get busy! Only 29 more days left to submit my Celebrity Death Pool picks!

I’m glad the news was better than was expected, Dotty.

{{{{Dotty}}}}
Stop me before I LOL again

That was perfect, rosie!

I make good soup, too. Chicken. With carrots, peas, potatoes and noodles.

Cleaned out the fridge; well, removed items of questionable age - cleaning is tomorrow.

Am making a list of stuff I need to do tomorrow.

Back later…

GT

Tornadee watch until 0400. Fun in Mayberry tonight…

I made turkey and noodles for dindin. It was Teh Yum.

Alas, time for my ugly sleep. Maybe I’ll have a quiet night anf make it to Cubeville tomorrow.

I worked, I bowled(85, 89, 88 for tonight’s game, 98, 108, 69 for a make up for last week). Gordie ate a Gershwin CD, and a pepper grinder. No weird dreams.

Bobbio, I’ll see your tonado watch, and raise you a flood warning.

Yay for Dotty!

gt, I read that as I get to play hockey tomorrow.

I have a crockpot, but I never use it; my life is to chaotic to plan that far ahead.

A joke for the morning:

“Nurses aren’t supposed to laugh.” Frank declared.

“Of course I won’t laugh, I’m a professional nurse. In over twenty years I’ve never laughed at a patient.”

“Okay then,” Frank said and proceeded to drop his trousers, revealing the tiniest man thingy the nurse had ever seen.
Length and width, it couldn’t have been bigger than a AAA battery.

Unable to control herself, the nurse started giggling then almost fell to the floor laughing.
A few minutes later she was able to regain her composure.

“I’m so sorry,” said the nurse. “I don’t know what came over me. On my honour as a nurse and a lady, I promise it won’t happen again. Now tell me, what seems to be the problem?”

“It’s swollen,” Frank replied.

Things went downhill from there. . . . . .

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ YAWN

Hee Dotty!

Ok, that’s all I got for now. Rumbly tummy is demandin’ to be fed.

Happy Thursday Y’all!
