Howdy Y’all! Been a day of sloth here at da cave. Well, duh! It’s da cave, most days are sloth days there. We are retired Olde Phartes and we can sloth if we want to. Anywho, no cee-mint pond time as we just did not want to go out there. Chili/cheese/onion/slaw dawgs 'n fries were consumed for N.O.L. Fartfest has ensued.
Flyboy this will be a sad week for you all, but take heart that you gave Tonka a wonderful and long life full of love and lackin’ in want.
Made a quick run to CVS for a couple of prescriptions, then ran thru Food Lion for a couple more boxes of ice cream sammiches, since they’re on sale. And I just ate a big bowl of sweet cherries - wish I’d thought to grab more while I was there. Lurves me some cherries!
Higgs has been fed and FCD doesn’t want supper, so chillage shall ensue. This may be my last week with Roxy - I’ve got her during the day tomorrow, late afternoon and for supper on Thursday, then overnight on Firday. Then not again till Daughter goes back to school, or gets another job. Whatever.
And a certain overly-indulgent grandfather bought a plastic playhouse for a certain overly-indulged toddler. It’ll get here next week. So I guess she’ll have to visit so she can play in it.
Took a nap, since slothing wore me out. Making bacon cheeseburgers with smoked gouda and stone ground mustard for dinner.
Oddly enough, Alex Catt is not an alarm clock. However, when I get up, or come home from work, I receive The Starvation ScreechTM if I do not immediately fill the bowl.
Also, his nose has gotten almost too fat to fit in his muzzle.
Nah, it does feel it should be separate. Sorta like Good Friday and Easter.
While he’s putting that together he can finish painting the basement ceiling too. Too bad it will take up the floor space where his pool table could of gone…
doggio re my last post, that’s what I get for posting in the MMP on an actual Monday morning.
Happy birthday wet one!
VanGo, when Sis and I cleaned out the cellar at Dad’s a couple of years ago, we found green beans that had been put up in 1989. Needless to say, the jars were emptied into the compost bin.
{{{flyboy family}}} You gave Tonka a long and wonderful life.
nellie, I agree with you about Memorial day. I like a kick off to summer, but prefer that this day remain a solemn one.
Today would have been my mother’s 88th birthday. After the Monday holiday bill, it rarely fell on the observed holiday, but we always went to the cemetery anyway.
After taking a two hour ride and returning the bike to storage, I went to the Stones River National Cemetery for services and to pay respects to two of my 4X great uncles buried there. Then I came home and loafed.
Talked to Sis in Houston. She will be here late Friday evening with Nelson’s Auntie Ginger (his mother’s littermate) for the weekend before she heads up to Dad’s. I’m looking forward to it.
I’m trying to figure out when Memorial Day became a fireworks event in my area. I do NOT enjoy playing “was that a firework or a gunshot?”, TYVM.
I’ve apparently gotten to be quite the worrier in recent years. I have about nine or ten “always open” tabs in Chrome (yes, SDMB is one of them). Others currently include Spare the Air, CalFire, and National Hurricane Center (please note that I do not live in an area affected by tropical storms).
while I’m sure you meant well, Memorial Day is NOT a day to celebrate (except for people enjoying a 3-day weekend)–it was created to honor troops that have died for our country. It’s for visiting cemeteries
Evening all. Nappage was completed and then went out to eat, as the rest of the week I’ll be dining at home. Went to IHOP, they have a pretty good burger but did a lousy job of checking me out and shorted me a buck, so I’ll find other places to take my custom. Down to 72F heading for the low 60’s for the evening, so perfect sleeping weather. Watching an oil train go around the Horseshoe Curve in Pennsylvania, hey, it’s not high drama but I like trains…
And that’s about all I got. Everybody take care and I’ll catch up with you on 2sday.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll go down to the river and look for rocks. Or look for rocks at the dollar store. Or maybe stay home and work on music. Decisions, decisions.
Must try for a picture of my friendly feline neighbor at some point. Orange shorthair tom (I did get a good enough look at his back end to be sure), with a tipped ear, so presumably fixed. Still, he is WAY too friendly to be a feral.
Hades Annex is going to be entertaining tomorrow. Two out of three current sups flatly will not take the promotion to the now-vacant manager slot (grandboss left last week), and the third is IMO not qualified and would do poorly. We also do need our three sups to handle helping the agents we still have, especially with a complete overhaul of the call scoring. The criteria are now a vague mishmash of bureaucratese that seems totally subjective to me. This is NOT an improvement, and other agents agree with me. I also have the “joy” of a direct sup who feels it’s necessary to spend at least five minutes of every team meeting bitching about the fact that people talk to each other about work in the breakroom or on social media outside of work (you know, PERSONAL time?). Conversation policing and the harassment to rush callers off the phone ASAP (I swear I’ve been in friendlier fast-food drivethroughs) is sitting so poorly with me I start to feel a little ill thinking about going to work.
Then there’s the training class next week. They really think they’re going to get 150 people by September-ish without abandoning what low hiring standards the place already has? And where are we going to put them? And where are they going to find enough people crazy enough to become sups? Three cannot handle that many agents, especially before we get a new grandboss.
Google told me that I could take evaporated milk, add sugar, and this would substitute for sweetened condensed milk. Tried it, but it didn’t thicken up, so we have cherry cheese slop with a graham cracker crust drowning, instead of cherry cheese pie. Hubby is still eating it, so I’ll call that a win. And will make sure that we always have 2 tubes of sweetened condensed milk (why are is it in tubes, and not cans, I have no idea), to make sure that I have enough.
I did buy another can of cherry pie filling, but from the U.K., so I might try to repeat the recipe, but with a cookie crust, since graham crackers are still in short supply here.
After some delay, the gardener showed up yesterday and is making a planting bed, which will be done tomorrow. And that will complete our three big outdoor projects for 2021. There’s one more hedge that should be replaced, but that’s for next year. I don’t want to have too many new plants to water.
Today and tomorrow my boss is on vacation, so I have very few meetings. Yipee! And Thursday’s the last of the strange Catholic holidays in the spring (Corpus Christi).
In German, Corpus Christi is Fronleichnam, otherwise known jokingly as Happy Kadaver. Not very respectful, but amusing. And it means that Thursday is a holiday and I’m taking Friday off. Until Sunday we have bootiful weather, and it’s finally getting warm. Not 105 F warm, just 70s. I’ll take it.
Well remeber when I was worried about today ? Well today went down like a runny fart after getting bitched at because I didn’t feel like playing janitor for the golden ones last night and the bs over dinner that went down
Well woke up this morning to vacuuming and cleaning and we even paid for an instacart express order so we have food and snacks today for the bbq… Well today wasn’t going to be overly long because a cousin had to go to work at like 12 or 1 am tonight (he works for a rather prominent bread company that delivers to restaurant chains and places like Costco and the place has no plan for all the places that want bread, now its all reopening … )
WEll after screeching about the bathrooms not being clean enough to eat off of I got huffy and made the remark "well it’s 1:30 maybe we should see if they’re even coming over " and she did… guess what? they said he had to come in even earlier so they were just gonna hang out at home … and didn’t act like they were going to deign to let us know…
Aunt was pretty much silent the rest of the day … we didn’t even light the bbq and just cooked the stuff we took out last night …
I expect ours are the same. Ophelia and Shadow are both around 17 years old so they’re distinctly elderly, they tend to sleep a lot of the time or just follow us round the house and flop wherever they can see us. Since we’ve had Whisper, the catflap has been locked and their outdoor access supervised - Whisper’s a foster cat s we can’t let him out yet. Of course, we’ve now decided to keep him so catflap unlocking will happen soon.
All the wet food had been scoffed, but there were more than enough crunchies to sustain three cats for quite a while. Thus our absence was not deemed to be a threat to life, merely an inconvenient disruption to wet food supply.
