A Hurried MMP

Yeah, I would. I don’t even have a regular cell phone. I always think of Stephen Fry’s comments about telephones being incredibly rude- akin to having someone shouting, “Talk to me now! Talk to me now!” and jumping up and down.

Besides, I don’t need any more distractions. I manage not to pay attention without even having something that would always, always be pulling me internetwards.

Going to pack Nat up and go for a walk in a few minutes. And stop at the new bulk store and request that they stock Green&Black’s (without which there is neither life nor happiness).

I already knew that my biggest problem as a translator is that, if I can, I’d rather adapt than translate. Actually, some of my previous clients asked me to do the job because they wanted an adaptation.

The stuff I’m working on right now? If I was the client, I wouldn’t have accepted it in the original. All the documents seem to be from the same hand and it’s one of those people who think any sentence should be in the passive voice and include a minimum of six subordinate clauses, three of them nested. And then you occasionally run into a line in the active voice: “fill in the rest.” :stuck_out_tongue:

blurf - it’s raining
blurfer - I overslept, and have to rush to pack
blurfest - I have to drive, in the rain, to New Jersey, which, in this case, means the Cross Bronx Expressway, which is a bigger parking lot than the L.I.E., and creeping across the George Washington Bridge, making what should be a 90 minute trip last 3 hours.

Mmmmm… Green and Black’s. I’ve got a sudden wicked bad craving for their Mayan Spice bar all of a sudden. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am currently in neverending Action Item hell for the third day in a row. Hopefully I’ll emerge with my sanity intact… I hate running after people and bugging them for answers to questions they’d rather ignore.

I’m up and fixing to take a shower. Today is my RDO, so my Friday was yesterday.

I have a haircut and color job scheduled for tomorrow. I am way, way, way overdue for both.

Today I have to take my daughter down to the DOL so she can take the written test driving test. I don’t know if she’ll be able to do the actual driving test today.

I hope you have fun at the reunion, tarra.

Good luck with the long drive, **rosie.[/B

I guess that’s all I have for now.

Smooches to all.

Up and off to work.

Boofae, i hope the back feels better.

Hi!

I’m back from getting my quarterly Depo shot. I just ate some leftover pizza for breakfast, since I woke up too late to eat. I thought I ran all my errands, but the laundry hamper is still in the back seat - I forgot to drop off the clothes at the cleaner. I guess I’ll get up and do that - in a minute…

Happy Firday!

Blurf. Face is all swollen. I look like the long-lost fourth member of Alvin and the Chipmunks. And my throat is still sore… Between the swelling, and the pain associated with chewing and swallowing, I have not eaten anything in three days/

sings

Oh, it may be a terrible morning,
It may be a terrible day,
But take Percocet every four hours,
And everything bad goes away!

Pills kicking in. I think it’s naptime. Happy Firday everybody!

{{{Spaz}}} I hope things settle down soon.

Oh, and the cute co-worker definitely likes you. Maybe you can shock and overjoy him all at once by asking him if you can crash at his place for a few days

{{{Boo}}} Yeah, like everybody else said, back pain is the worst. I just hope it’s gone before you get on the plane to Noo Yawk!!

**Moonie **-- eat something! Or your light-headedness will be not only because of the pain killers!!

That is all. Have a great weekend, everybody!

Trust me. I was not at all happy with his decision to sell his PowerBook then have me wrangle up a copy of Windows to put on a skanky old IBM Stinkpad.

I have at least vanquished the virus. Took four or five different tools to find all of its tentacles, but now, the PC boots up and doesn’t start wandering off to porn sites on its own.

I’m sticking with my iMac though! I’m actually having semi-idle thoughts of upgrading to a Mac Pro. I don’t need the power, but I *covet *it. Eight Nehalem cores are just calling out to me.

The wierd problem with Macs - I’ve got the first Intel iMac and it’s over four years old. Still runs like a finely-tuned sewing machine. Nothing at all wrong with it other than being slower that the current models. But a four year old Windows PC would be thrashed and beat to death, gasping for life. (Like my neighbor’s sad wretch that I’ve patched up several times.)

Rephrase that–I won’t have that apartment. Can’t afford it. I know some people through work who might be able to help me. So it looks like I’ll be in a holding pattern for at least a week. Fun times.

And yes, IB & MF are being dicks (and not in the fun way). I really hope they stay together because the hotels are one big high school and I guarantee that this news will be all over the place by the end of the month, if it takes that long. If they break up the gossip mills will be churning.

That’s a bummer, Spaz. Hope you find something affordable really soon.

I’ve gotten stuff done today! Yay!

Off to do more.

In the meantime: hugs.

GT

I want to go out for a nice mean too! :stuck_out_tongue:

Howdy Y’all! Just a quick post here. Gotta get back to dindin prep in a bit. I’m makin’ jambalaya. MMMMMMMMMM…

BooFae sorry about the back pain. Feel better soon.

Moonie glad you’re enjoyin’ the drugs but seriously, you need some food in your system.

**Spaz[//b] sorry about the apt. Here’s hopin’ you find suitable digs soon.

My daughter and I have returned from the DOL. What a day.

First we drove to a different office because her car tabs were about to expire and we wanted to make sure the tabs were current.

We left there and headed clear to the other side of town for her to take her written and driving test.

But…I had forgotten the Western Washington State Fair started today. Needless to say, traffic sucked. It took awhile, but we finally got down there. We took a number and waited for her to be called up. It didn’t take long.

It turns out we basically went down there for nothing. She doesn’t have to take a written test because the written test she took to obtain her permit is good for two years and counts as the written part of the drivers exam. We couldn’t get a driving test scheduled for today or tomorrow. The soonest they had available was this coming Wednesday.

My daughter asked if I could get the time off and without thinking, I told her I could. Only after she had scheduled the test, I had a:smack::smack: moment.
That’s the day before the Review and Analysis and typically I’m busting my ass, trying to get the slides in put together and the packets for the command put together.

Oh well. I’ll have to talk to the boss. Maybe I can come in for a couple of hours, take her down for her test, and if need be, drive back to work after her test.

Spaz, I’m sorry that you’re going through such a rough patch. I hope you find someplace reasonable soon.

I got a major hankerin’ for meatloaf today, so I ran to the store on the way home, and I’ve now got a meatloaf in the oven and another in the freezer for a future dinner. N.O.T. are boiling prior to mashing. Sugar snap peas will round things out. Oh, and gravy, of course.

OK, if you want to see something super cool, go on Google Earth and put in Beijing World Park. And click on all the little blue squares. You’re welcome.

Am home from a long, but productive day. I feel so odd. It took me a few days to figure it out, but I’m happy. (this is so rare for me that I didn’t recognize it). I mean Happy–not momentarily happy or giddy or excited, but content-happy.

My job is both overwhelming and just challenging enough–there’s a lot I don’t know, but I am learning every day and it’s working.

So, I come home a bit tired, but not exhausted like with nursing. I also come home in a much better mood.
I’m still kind of amazed at the whole thing. Who knew that work could be enjoyable and not full of stress/adrenaline/stark fear?
On that note, off to collect #2 son from soccer practice. Season opener tomorrow! Yippee! I loves me some kid soccer.

Happy Friday to all and to all a good night.

That’s great, rigs! I long for a job where I don’t come home frustrated with myself or a situation at work, along with exhaustion that comes with that. I’m so glad you found something that gives a sense of contentment.

My daughter and I ran over to a furniture store near my home to price some dining sets for her boyfriend. After that, we ran over to Safeway to pick up a couple of things. They finally had some nice looking sweet potatoes, so I’ll be able have one and get past my craving for it.

I need to clean up the kitchen and I think I’m going to get a start on mucking out the garage.

Mr. Taters is out on the neighbor’s boat wakeboarding and whooping it up. He asked if I wanted to go, but I declined. It’s nice to have some relative peace here. I love my hubby, but the PC games he plays are noisy and I get sick of hearing them, so when he’s not around, it’s nice and quiet.

Another day, another dollar.

[Moonie, EAT SOMETHING STAT!

That sucks, Spaz. I hope you find something quick.

rigs, I like my job, except when I have to deal with supervisors. glad you’re enjoying work again.

Taters, that quite the driving adventure.

What! No one has been here since last night? I take it something was broken?

I’m up, having breakfast and going through pictures.

Have some ice cream, Moonie. Hope the back is feeling better, Boo.

I’m hoping to get lots of organizing and cleaning up done today. Slept pretty well and actually have some energy, I think.

Back later.

Hugs.

GT

Good morning. I have coffee in hand and will need to get myself cleaned up soon.

I have a 1:30 hair appointment. I am so looking forward to it. I am more than month overdue and my hair just looks like utter crap right now.

Mr. Taters was up at o’dark thirty and has been a busy guy. He even has my rig backed out so he can wash it and it’s only 7:30 in the morning here.

I imagine he’ll wait a little longer before he goes out to was the rig though.

I took some new pictures of my fish tank and added them to the pictures I took a year ago. You can see how much my fish have grown. Here, take a gander. The first five or six are from a year ago, the next several are pics I took yesterday.
