I came home Tuesday night and Irish Brother, reading from a prepared statement I might add, informed me that I was interfering with his and Moody Friend’s relationship and that I should remove myself forthwith. So I grabbed most of my stuff and drove down the road to a Quality Inn where I promptly unloaded on Complicated Friend over the phone. In the middle of my rant, Irish Brother called him about the same subject. Complicated called back later so I could finish fussing.
I admit, I do bear some blame in this. I should have had my own place at least a month ago, but I got so wrapped up in my job that it slipped my mind. Still, they could have given me at least another day or two, at least that night so I could have slept (I had just. gotten. off. work.) and done some laundry. I’m going to a Motel 6 tonight and then I’m going to talk to Detailed Manager tomorrow to see if work can offer me any options. I’m not sure because it’s going to be a busy weekend and they usually don’t do employee rates over weekends.
Anyway, yesterday I spent trying to catch up on sleep and going through the local Iwanna and an apartment finder. I decided to start with the Apartment Finder when I started calling today. The first place I called didn’t have any places available, I left a message with the second place and the third place had one 1-bedroom apartment left. I went down there today and as soon as they finish cleaning the place and switching the power to my name it looks like I have it. Now comes the fun part of getting my bed and stuff up here from my dad’s–I’ll worry about the Greenville stuff later. It’s a bit more than I was expecting and I won’t have much money left over each month, but I can live on very little and it’s a start. Hopefully some teaching jobs will open up soon. Like next semester soon, although I believe that may be a bit too wishful.
In other news, I am now an academic coach for the Hippy Hollow City Schools. It’s a combination mentor/tutor afterschool program. I’ll be giving an hour of my Thursdays to help keep one student from falling through the cracks. So at least I can do something with education.
In OTHER other news, I checked Facebook last night and saw a status update from Cute Former Coworker saying he was going to be downtown. I gave him a call (after much nervousness and fretting over the phone to Cat Friend–I haven’t mentioned her here before I believe) and met him down at the same bar IB, MF and I went to Sunday night. I told him what was going on and he nearly fell off his stool. We chatted for a couple of hours* and he bought my pint. So that went well.
(*He tries to play so cool over the phone. When I called he said “Yeah, I’ll probably be here for another fifteen minutes before heading out” but he was waiting when I got there and we talked until midnight. He did the same thing at Bele Chere when we went out with the crazy British chicks. “Yeah, I don’t know how much longer I’ll be here”–another couple of hours. Guys.)
Just so you know, LiLi, it’s likely that a few guests will refuse to believe you want nothing, and will insist on bringing something.
When we did our housewarming party a couple of years ago, we ended up with a dozen guests who still decided to bring something… including several bottles of wine that we’re only just getting around to drinking now. And that was despite the fact that the invite clearly stated they were to bring NOTHING but their charming selves, and that food/drink/booze would be provided in ample quantities. People feel guilty showing up empty-handed, I guess.
{{Spaz}} That sucks. Definitely not the kind of conversation you want to come home to right after a long day of work.
Work is insane again (I typed that as “inane” at first… clearly a Freudian slip, because today has been full of inane people and conversations).
Is it sleep o’ clock yet? We didn’t get home until 12:30am from last night’s show, so I’s tahred. The worst part is that I have a film festival screening at 9pm, and I don’t trust myself to stay awake for the whole thing.
I am a Percocet zombie again today. Those pills are like individual doses of pure, concentrated apathy - you take one and suddenly you don’t wanna do ANYTHING.
Just like yesterday, throat is hurting but the actual extraction sites are not. Oh well.
{{{Spaz}}}. And {{{Everyone Else}}} too, for the hell of it.
{{{Spaz}}} that sucks! I’m glad you found a place though. And yay on the mentor thing. Who knows, maybe they’ll be so blown away by your mad teaching skilz you’ll have offers to teach out the wazoo. Wazoo… I love that word!
LiLi just say no gifts but if you must, we’re registered at Tiffany’s.
Moonie glad things went pretty well. Embrace the drugs. They are your friends.
Whoever took gotti’s paper, just put it back and no questions will be asked.
BioRosie I voted. So did ol’ y’all know who. I told him he did and he said, “Ok. Do I get a cookie?”
Pfft. Tiffany’s? We’ve registered for Iphones and at Williams-Sonoma. Actually, I think I’d hate having an Iphone.
Right. Maybe we’ll just send out the invites and then auction off the stuff.
My weekend is here. Attacks Husband has Fridays off, I may be able to do some more baking and cleaning tomorrow. Very nice. And take naps. Naps are important.
I got my season tickets today! I feel all warm and fuzz. Wait, that’s just Gordie sticking his face in front of mine:). VP did not show again, but may have driven past me on the way to work. :dubious:
Spaz, that sucks. Glad you found somewhere, though.
But that would be truth in advertising.
It’s like the Dos Equis commercial: “She lives vicariously through her self”
Argh… Paper has been bought and the printer reloaded.
But now…DH’s computer has at least one virus and possibly a rootkit. So now, my time is gobbled up with trying to remove the evil crap.
And to think that he had a Mac, but after three years with it, decided he wanted to go back to Windows. He’d gripe about whatever oddities as some sort of stupid Mac nonsense, but now, he gripes about problems in Windows and currently has an unusable computer. :smack:
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ a little earlier than I wanna be but I woke up and had to pee and couldn’t go back to sleep.
gotti that’s because all computers are teh evil. I concluded that years ago. If you really want or need to do sump’n, they get their version of teh sick immediately. I have just accepted that as a fact of life.
Ok, need more caffiene. Maybe since I’m up soooooooooooooo early, I’ll go to that fine dining establishment known as Waffle House for brekkie.
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend. I’m headed to Philly for the day on Sunday to help my Dad celebrate his 80th birthday. I’ll also see three of my four brothers (hopefully!), one of whom lives in the east Bay area - haven’t seen him since 2006. The other brother is in TX and just can’t make it. Will be good to see everyone.
I have had a bad back for the last few days, pulled something at the weekend and it’s not getting better. Last night was particualrly bad so I’m not such a happy camper today. Hopefully it won’t get any worse during the afternoon 'cos I’m going out with a friend tonight.
For a low, low, low price of $0, I’d be glad to relieve you of that kind of burden. Because I’m nice like that. Act quickly, though, because this fabulous offer won’t last forever!
Last night’s movie was very strange. It was a Thai ghost story about an unhappily married couple who go on a camping trip, and a tree spirit who comes between them. The Q&A with the director afterwards was absolutely hilarious… in case you didn’t know, the best part about filming in the woods instead of in cities (his usual setting) is that you can pee anywhere.
That’s right, the director talked about peeing in the woods. At great length, might I add.
Next up is a film on Sunday night involving a badass super-secret Hong Kong assassination squad and political intrigue. I’m hoping the Q&A won’t be quite so bathroom-focused.
Poor spaz. That situation has much suckitude. But, honestly, you will be much better off out of there. Irish Brother is being a dick. I don’t care how many sides of the story there are.
li-li, just say “no pressies” on the invite and then just graciously accept whatever comes your way. Some people just like to do that kinda stuff.
boofae, back attacks are the worst. Hope it’s better soon.
Happy haircut, gt!
moonie, hope the throat feels better soon. Keep resting. You’ll be up and around in no time.
I didn’t sleep well last night. Seemed like my whole body had agreed to be hurty and achey. I finally got up around 1 ayem and took some ibuprophen. That helped but by then the cycle was thrown off.
Everybody cross fingers for the shuttle coming in tonite to Flawduh. I loves me some sonic booms. Weather might be a problem though.
I’ve been to a couple housewarming parties lately and took bottles of wine to both. It does feel like you have to take something just 'cause it’s tradition or something.
But I solved two problems with one solution on the housewarmings: I took wine that other people had brought us to each of the parties. So now we have less of a backlog of wine (We don’t drink, and there’s only so much we can use in cooking, especially red wine.) and I had something nice to take without spending money.
{{Spaz}} Glad you hopefully have a new place to live.
Today’s officially known as the Longest Day of the Year around here - the first full-day Firday after summer hours. No one feels like doing any work after about 2pm. Fortunately, I have another interview this afternoon (and I figured out a way around the stoopid questions - rework them into semi-non-stoopid questions) so that’ll take up some time. And we might have a meeting so that’ll take up a little more. After that, the interwebs is my friend.
