A lot of women are coming forward with rape accusations against Bill Cosby..

From the link:

I’m not saying these didn’t happen. But, really??? So Cosby just whips it out in the green room, when anyone could walk in at any time? Ridiculous. And who is in the habit of blindly taking pills that are given to them, without asking what they are or what they are for?

People. Have some discretion. Think for yourselves, and don’t believe something just because you saw it on the internet. Demand corroborating evidence. Something.

That story is true but I have found it serves as a kind of Rorschach test for people that want to see anything into that they want, especially rape at every turn. I was the one that was underaged while the others involved were not. I agreed to a simple prank that went very awry a quarter century ago and I felt like the fool for ever agreeing to it. I still don’t know what the true motivation was. It certainly wasn’t sexual gratification on my part because I was flat out terrified that someone would turn on the lights and then things would go from bad to worse really quickly.

I thought I had to play along just well enough to get out of it and never mention it again because that was not a fun experience completely unlike the ‘Penthouse Forums’ description that was suggested earlier. The lady in question may have been in on the so-called joke for all I know because she and her then boyfriend had some very strange ideas about relationships but I didn’t have much experience with them at all at the time.

Like I said, we are still friends to this day and she is one of the few people that still sends me a Christmas card every year plus constant updates about her family. Save your outrage for a more noble cause. There is no victim in this case and never was.

But does she like peas?

Or coleslaw?

Think of how much faster you could post if you’d use the quote button.

You think just cuz a lady likes peas it means she’s asking for it? :dubious:

As for the coleslaw, we all make mistakes. That doesn’t mean she did wrong in *this *case.

You seriously don’t think shit like that happens?

[quite]And who is in the habit of blindly taking pills that are given to them, without asking what they are or what they are for?

People in the 2960s and 1870s who are accustomed to sharing recreational drugs with rich and famous people? This is seriously news to you?

What are we up to now? 15? 16? It’s likely that they’re all lying? For what benefit?

Because having half the country call you a lying whore is a really desirable thing, apparently.

Bigot.

OK - my first assignment: stop all men everywhere from being so darned rapey if I don’t want people to automatically assume I’m a rapist. Got it. What’s next?

How about the first step — believe women who say this has happened to them and at the very least take personal steps to isolate or censure those men.

The history of sexual abuse in Hunan society has been to condemn and punish the victims of tape and to protect the reputations of the rapists.

It starts with a change of attitude. Believe them. And then see where that takes you.

I stated my position on the actual topic in the other thread not started by a jackass, and I stand by it. In this thread I’m just mocking people.

I think it’s safe to say that, apart from fuckwits like the OP, pretty much everyone posting on the SDMB is already doing that. Now what?

Have you read the other thread on this question? This is not only not “safe to say,” it’s dead wrong.

Men who don’t rape are the exception to the rule? Is that really what you’re saying?

[QUOTE=Fallen]
If folks don’t want people having a bias or prejudice against them as a gender, then do some damn self-governing, policing and education and other remedial actions to help clean up the problems instead of (usually, at best) sitting back and whining about how unfair people are about X (more often, it’s rationalizing the behavior and suggesting if not explicitly declaring that the victim asked for it in one way or another).

Personally I hate being blamed for the bad behavior of other women. If some women didn’t lie about rape, there would be fewer assholes like kstarnes. That doesn’t, of course, excuse his repugnant ideas, any more than the existence of rapists excuses your broad generalizations about men as sexual predators.

Now, I’m inclined to take people at their word. I am inclined to believe women who report sexual assault because I’ve been on the other side, the telling the truth and not being believed side, and it’s a knife to the fucking gut. I have to balance my personal experience with the fact that I believe people are innocent until proven guilty and we have a nasty habit of declaring people guilty in the court of public opinion with very little evidence. But 16 reports of sexual assault is pretty damning. I don’t find it implausible that some of them are lying, but I do find it implausible that all of them are lying.

I hadn’t read it, but I’ve taken your advice and had a look. I’ve only read to page 3 at the moment and the vast majority of the comments made thus far express belief of, and support for, Cosby’s accusers. About 80% of the thread so far is comprised of people basically saying things like “I have no trouble believing this”, or “I always knew Cosby was a scumbag” etc… By contrast, I only counted four posters who expressed any disbelief. Granted, that’s more than I expected, but on the evidence of the thread’s first 100 or so posts, I’m not dead wrong. I’m mostly right.

Unfortunately, I stopped reading on page 3 when I saw that one of the four posters who didn’t believe the allegations was well known pedo apologist and all-round fucknut Starving Artist, and by now it’s basically an unofficial law of the universe that when he jumps into a thread it all goes down the toilet. If it got worse after he chimed in with his pearls of wisdom then I’ll take your word for it and withdraw the point.

Well, the topic seems to have moved on from coleslaw at last.

Any chance of some kimchi making tips? I’m trying to work out a version that doesn’t have any fish or shrimp products in it, and I’m not having a lot of luck. I guess I could just make saurkraut and spice it up a bit, but I’m not convinced that’d be really a good alternative, you know?

Kimchi’s pretty easy. What you do is you chop up your cabbage, then have Satan drool on it for a while. Add a dash of kerosene, battery acid to taste, let it rest for about 50 years in a hot and humid place and you should be good to go.

Sheesh, this is a perfectly serious thread, and you have to drop a steaming turd like that in it?

Kimchi and sauerkraut huh? I’m not sure I’ve ever tried either, in fact I don’t really know what they are. Some sort of fermented cabbage? A taste equivalent to pickled tomato, piccalilli?

Just use a kimchi recipe you like, and omit the shrimp. That’s it. The shrimp and fish sauce helps with the umami, but you can do something pretty close without it. (You can try substituting Korean soy sauce for the fish sauce.) Here’s a recipe I’ve used. Napa cabbage is important, and also use Korean powdered chiles in your recipe. Any other chiles I’ve tried, and it just didn’t taste right. If you have an old jar of kimchi, than you can throw in some of that liquid into your new jar to help speed the fermentation along.
