A May 30 MMP

I renewed my tags online almost a month ago and they aren’t here yet. I printed out my temp registration, but it’s only good for 30 days, which will be up very soon. The DMV says it’s taking 6 weeks or longer to send out the tags, so why the temp registration is only good for 30 days I don’t know. Oh well.

I have survived the great purge and plunder. Take care everyone.

The escargots were good. The mushroom caps were smaller than usual, so I didn’t cook ‘bonus mushrooms’ in the sauce. The snails must have been smaller too, as the can had 14 instead of the usual 12. So we each got a ‘bonus snail’.

Creamed spinach with feta is done. Time to fire up the barbie and grill the filets mignon.

What am I, chopped liver?!? I’ve been speechifying up a storm I have!

Not only that, I’ve bad influenced people into thinking about coming to the Cheese Side

We only got our IP last year and hubs is the main user so I have to confess that I have never thought to use it for an incubator. That is a very clever idea, thank you.

FCM’s suggestion of buying plain yogurt to use as a starter is a good one. I’ve also found starter cultures in health food stores as well as brewing supply places. Once you get started, just keep back some of the last batch you made to use as starter for the next batch.

I have never had a steam oven, or even heard of one until now. How does it do with baked goods, I’d think that most of them require a dry heat.

Imma gonna have to look into them more. TIL a new thing!

Are you able to check the meter yourself? If so, maybe compare the numbers with your bills. Sometimes the meter readers make mistakes or just get lazy. Before going out to the meter, be sure that all of the water (including your ice maker) is shut off so you can see if the meter says the water is really and truly shut off and that you don’t have a broken pipe somewhere.

GG knocked the floor lamp in the living room over and scared the heck out of both of us. The heavy glass shade just shattered and the poor little idiot had no idea how bad running across a glass covered floor could be. Hubs was yelling at him to hold still, but of course GG had no idea what he was saying so I just walked through the glass (I wear shoes always) and grabbed him up. Then I was stuck because I didn’t want to walk around with glass shards in the bottom of my shoes.

I sometimes wish I hadn’t bought a kitten, kittens are always a pain.

Happy Firday!

It feels like Saturday.

I was the only person at the park for quite a while this morning, over an hour. Lucy was running late, but I’m glad I waited because Jax came a bit later. Then Chuckie showed up.
It was also a cool 64 degrees and beautiful outside, so I enjoyed my alone time there.
I like getting there first. It gives Echo a chance to flush out the rabbits, and they both stick to the same potty places if they aren’t distracted.

No Barky, I think her mom may have covid.

I stopped to pick up a script on the way home, then decided on McD’s for breakfast.
What fun to come home to BB&W cat in the driveway. The dogs went nuts of course and it left me kind of stuck in the truck. I tried calling my son, but he was asleep and didn’t hear the phone. I wasn’t sure where BB&W cat was until I saw Adam run him off the back porch.
Still a pain trying to carry a bag of food, two leashes, and two drinks, and hoping BB&W cat went towards the front yard and isn’t coming towards me.
My dogs want him bad. I think they won’t hurt him, but they sure want to get to him.

JtC, I am considering getting somebody in to clean the house. It will be worth it, I think.
Sleeping in yesterday helped a lot too.

Today is going to be a mostly irk day. I took Moonday and Hump Day off this week, so I need to irk to make up for it.

My grandmother used to read the Harlequin Romances. She’d give them to me when she was done. They seemed pretty interchangeable. The plot was always the same, just the names and places were different.
I’m sorry your FIL is so much FCM. It has to be frustrating.

Hope you figure out the plumbing issue MetalMouse

That’s a lot to grow Butters. I’ve kind of given up in the outdoor stuff.
I got a bunch of indoor plants, birthday present to myself, because more stuff to take care of is exactly what I need

I am fighting not to look at my dogs’ breeder’s site right now. I know she has a bunch of litters right now, and they are all by Echo’s daddy. Of course, that doesn’t mean any of them are available, but it’s best I don’t inquire anyway.
But they are so cute.
I don’t need another dog. I don’t have the time, or the space, or the money.

I have a ton of subscribe and save to unpack, ugh, and then boxes to get rid off.

He WILL calm down eventually. He’s only about a year old now, right?

You’re keeping up the output (both quantity and quality), but the rest of the crew don’t seem to be.

I’ve definitely got some sort of stomach bug. The trips to the “reading room” are slowing down, but I’m also queasy. Temperature is normal for me, blood pressure was rather high at one point this afternoon, but has gone back down.

I tried reading one of them once… OMG! These that I’m reading are a tad more literate. Not that they’re great lit, but definitely nor Harlequin level.

Moooooom, we can order them online too, but like sunny, our clerk’s office is slow with the online orders. The office is a quarter mile down the street from me and catching them towards the middle of the month, most of the time, I can be in and out in 10 minutes.

JtC, you’re a good cat mom to keep GG from getting his paws shredded.

Feel better soonest seanette.

MMP Recipe Time.

Escargots
1 can escargots (we like Roland)
⅓ cup white wine
⅓ cup heavy (whipping) cream
6 Tbsp unsalted butter
12 mushroom caps
1 Tbsp flour
Minced garlic (as much as you like – you can never have too much garlic!)
Tarragon (as much as you like)
Dash pepper
Freshly-grated parmesan cheese

Preheat the oven to 375ºF

Drain and rinse the snails. Put the snails into a bowl and cover with cold water for at least five mintes. (Just put them into the water until you’re done with the rest.) Melt, wash, and remove the stems from, 12 mushrooms. Drain and pat dry the snails. Melt the butter in a frying pan. Sauté the mushroom caps and snails until the mushrooms start to get tender. Add the garlic and sauté for a minute or two. Whisk together the wine, cream, flour, tarragon, and pepper. Add to the pan and cook until thickened.

Put your 12-hole escargots dish onto a baking sheet. (I understand you can also use a baking dish, but I have an escargots dish so…) Put one mushroom cap, bottom up, into each hole. Put one snail on top of each mushroom cap. Spoon the sauce over everything. Top with freshly-grated parmesan cheese, as much as you like. Bake in the oven until the cheese browns or until you figure it’s done. Serve with a nice baguette it you like.

Tip1: Cook extra mushrooms in the sauce with the other mushrooms and the snails. Bonus mushrooms are good.

Tip 2: Inevitably, some parmasan cheese will spill onto the backing sheet. Baked parm is good!

He’s a Maine Coon. They take at least three years to fully mature. FML. I ordered an new floor lamp from the jungle. I don’t like it nearly as much but it has plastic shades and was advertised as being child safe. Jerkface kitty Kat.

I’m sorry you have a bug but at least you have company in the reading room. It’s when they abandon ship that you know you are in trouble.

I’m a cheap mom who didn’t want to pay a big ass vet bill AND have to deal with an idiot cat with bandages on all four feet. That wouldn’t have played well in the litter box. I needed new sneakers anyhow, I’ve just been too lazy to buy more.

Once I had my hands on GG, hubs grabbed the broom and swept a path so he could grab GG and lock him up in the back room. After we were sure it was safe, I was able to take my shoes off, toss them in the trash and put different shoes on so I could help with the clean up.

flyboy you write very nice and clear directions. Thank you.

OMG…I’ve never heard it called that, but it’s what I’m going to call it from now on!

(sorry you’re sick, though!)

Evening all. Back yard has been mowed and dinner assimilated, so all is well with the world. Caught up with another webcomic I’ve been reading (has a 14-year old archive at 3 updates/week so it took awhile). Since I go up at 5:30am today and no nap, will be heading off to bed shortly and hopefully can stay there later in the morning.

Have read all but retained little so take care and I’ll catch up with you tomorrow.

Hey now I’m just happy that a shortening of a nickname I started has been adopted, JtC.

I love all the pet stories y’all share, give skritches as appropriate.

The back is still acting up, but don’t feel like I’m gonna barf.

flyboy those snails sound gooood.

Hope all y’all who are feeling poorly get better soonest.

I really feel like one of the gang now!

I was kinda stoned when I ordered my latest pair of slippers so I ordered my first ever pair of Bunny Slippers. They came today so I put them on after I took my shower and managed to terrify our gormless guy into hiding when I came out of the bedroom. I’m thinking it’s the shiny black eyes that got him but who knows?

I stuck my foot up on the bed by VBC and she thought that my plushy slipper was a pretty nice pillow.

I’m pretty sure I could locate GG by shaking the treat bottle, but it’s kind of nice not worrying what he’s getting into.

Oh, they are!

As I said, they’re better than the restaurant’s. :sunglasses:

We have two ovens, so I only use the steam oven for cooking meals. I don’t use it as much as the main oven, but it goes in phases. I should get out the cookbook that came with it and try some other recipes. The other advantage is that the steam oven can be used to disinfect the equipment first.
Yoghurt - Miele Experience Centre.

Okay, added yogurt and milk to the grocery list. Not sure why this recipe specifies UHT milk, while the manual I got with the oven says that fresh will give better results. I’ll get fresh whole milk, plus I’m buying cream, so I’ll do both ice cream and yoghurt. That’s for Sunday afternoon.

Today I have a hair appointment and we’re going to town to get ink refills and might buy some scotch. Not big plans, but they are ours.

Happy Saturday!

So shorthanded yesterday, so I was doing clerk stuff, instead of merely dumping. Also the power flickered a couple of times, knocking out the computers. Apparently the giant backup generator was just Halloween.

“made” Although, if I were dismembered, marinated in shallots and wine, breaded with spices and cheese and baked, I would be quite cross. :chicken:

That’s what you get by choosing you Head of State by some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Mine does not. It also has manual doors and locks. But Carmen does have tire pressure sensors and satellite radio.

Don’t kink shame fictional people. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stay safe. And the garden sounds tasty.

That’s why I got a five toed sloth instead of a kitten.

Morning, mumpers! It’s 13c/55f and cloudy today. Weather app says “It’s really not that fucking funny outside” which is ok as I am inside!

metalmouse we entrusted our lives to Aer Lingus in a small prop plane operated by their regional service, Emerald. It was a pleasant enough flight with a bonus cup of tea.

doggio aquatic ceremonies were all the rage, yannow…

Today we will have a wander around Belfast before getting a train to Ballymena and then a brisk walk to the gig venue. Should be fun :grinning:

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 70 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 91 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The biggest plan of the day is to make Chikin Divan aka Couch Chikin for tomorrow’s first Sunday brunch over to the church house. Other than that we shall be our usual slothful selves with some quality cee-mint pond time thrown in for good measure. Any need to feed will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s and so forth.

JtC I am glad that GG and you were not hurt. I hope GG is less terrified of the bunny slippers today. Or maybe not. It might be kind of fun to chase him with the evil bunny slippers.

Nettie and VanGo hope your respective ailments are better today.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,

Happy Firday Y’all!

It’s a glorious 58° this morning - we had the windows open all night. Huzzah!!

On the down side, I think the hall bathroom terlit will need the same innards fix as ours just got. Apparently American Standard cheaps out on terlit innards. Part of the flush structure develops a slow leak and in the dark of the night, I can hear it refill once it lowers enough. It’s not a difficult fix, but what a pain!!!

I ordered new filters and vacuum bags for our shop vac. I use the bags when I clean the pellet stove - it minimizes the ash that gets blown back into the house. The other filters are for either the wet or the dry vac modes. More than you want to know, right?

Today’s plan is to remove the davits from the back of the boat. That means we’ll also have to figure out which stern light is connected, not that we plan on being out at night any time soon. But it’s one of those things that will have to be dealt with. And one thing to scratch off the list, so there’s that.

Happy Saturday! Send chocolate!!!

Happy Saturday!

JtC, I hope that the bunny slippers (and I’m jealous of them) get less scary for GG. It reminds me of Nelson when my former next door neighbor put out two small stone kitty cats by the stoop. When I took Nelson out for his bedtime walk, he stopped and released a visceral growl. I looked down to see him challenging those two stone cats. :stuck_out_tongue:

Today is the lazy day. I need to be in Shelbyville at 11 for a Marketplace deal, but other than that, sloth shall be the order of the day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
