A Melancholy MMP

Love your food blog, Muppet.

Sorry about your friend’s son, swampy. Somehow, I’m not surprised that there will be NOT salad among other things.

ETA: also forgot condolences on your grandmother, Alessan.

And sorry about the anniversary, Flower. I think they are always hard. My Dad died 3 days after my Mom’s birthday. It was years before she actually celebrated her birthday again.

I’m not married McUne, but I know that several of the happily (and monogamously) marrieds here have recounted dreams of being with other people.

Sorry about the continued A/C outage, Pie. Aren’t the mosquitos especially vicious this year? They get me EVERY time I venture into the garden.

Wow, that’s really a shame about your co-workers, rosie. Any chance you can drop a hint? (And sorry about the pulled hamstring, too… Can you just trade that whole leg in??? )

I’ve been bad. I came home early to do some laundry, get my hair cut and then finish sanding. I got my hair cut. Also, I wandered through the garden and looked at daylilies with an eye to moving a few around and adding some from the faboo daylily nursery we visited on Saturday. (I’m going back to buy a few this Saturday.)

On the virtuous side, I did go for a long walk.

And now I’m tired and should probably crawl into bed since I was up till nearly 2:00 a.m. this morning due to a late afternoon coffee drink.

I want it to be Firday already!

GT

Thanks for the compliments on the blog, guys. I’m all blushy and stuff.

McUne, the link to the monthly baking challenge is on my blog - just click on the Daring Bakers logo on the bottom of the sidebar (I’m too lazy to look it up right now… sorry).

There are other interesting baking/cooking challenges in the blogosphere if this one doesn’t peak your interest… a couple of other ones you can google are “Sugar High Fridays” (they give a theme, you pick your own recipe) and “Tuesdays with Dorie” (they pick a recipe, but it’s usually less complicated than Daring Bakers). I’m debating taking on a second monthly challenge, but I’m a little concerned about what would happen to my waistline if I made TWO mega-fattening uber-complicated desserts per month.

Sorry about your friend’s son, swampus. I guess I’ve got a little Southern in me… my first instinct when dealing with a grieving friend is to show up with food (actually, I think it might be a universal thing, because The Boy says that’s what Jews do too).

Wallflower, I’m so sorry. Hugs. I hope this next year will be better for you than the past year has been.

So far I’ve done nothing but nap, drink, and walk the dog, Good vacation Monday. I just killed a fly with a 2’ x 6’ piece of hockey rink glass(Sometimes the boards hit back.)

Alessen, nice remarks. I missed my grandparent’s funerals, but I could say the same about them.

{{{{Wallflower}}}}

Pie, hope you get your A/C back soon.

rosie, I’d whack 'em with my crutch, but I’m cruel like that.

Come back, Specialmutt!!

Taters, I’m on vacation, so I’ not ready to let go of Monday yet.

(((Spaz & Flowers))) It takes lots of time, but it slowly gets a little easier. I don’t think it ever gets easy, though.

Alessan, what a lovely eulogy. My condolences on your grandmother.

Today was quite a day. Our intern started her official 3 week rotation with us today. She’s on a 2 year internship, so she’s just going into her junior year and has never held a job before, of any kind. Envy us. We all went out to dim sum for lunch today, which was fun.

It was my co-worker’s official first day today as an employee and not a contractor. She had orientation for a half day today and then has three days in San Francisco. Three 9 - 10 hour days in training, plus a two hour commute. Did I mention she’s 7 months pregnant? They finally decided that she could have a hotel room. I might have [del]instigated[/del] pushed just a *little *bit on that. Looks innocent and whistles.

You, my dear Shadow, might be an angel. At least I’m sure your co-worker feels that way.

Missed the edit window on telling you what a lovely eulogy that was, Alessan.

Remembered more stuff: Welcome back olives! Don’t worry about keeping up; just jump in whenever you can! Same thing goes for you, Flowers. (Well, for everyone, really; but you two are the returning ones that come to mind, although I think it’s been a while since Alessan wandered by.

Sorry about the missing puppy, SO. (Yes, all dogs are puppies, regardless of age.)

There was more, but now it’s gone again…

Off to bed…really…I mean it this time!

Okay, here it is–proof positive that I wasn’t just slacking off yesterday: Ta-daaaah! Now all I have to do is make a pair of britches to go with but those only take me a half hour or so… Grandboy is gonna look quite fetching in that and we’re gonna have to fight the girls off with a stick. Lucky for us Grandboy LIKES sticks and always has one or five around. It’s funny–I was going through other garb that hasn’t been unpacked in yonks and found a tunic I made for my son when he was not too much older than Grandboy is now, so I’ll be passing that along to a second generation. sniff

Okay, are you ready for overpowering teeniness? My grandnieces were born July 8th, at 28 weeks gestation ( )–here is Brooklyn Nicole, 2lbs 12oz and Alexia Kathryn, 2lbs 6oz. They are, respectively, 15.5" and 14" long! That’s my nephew with Alexia there… My sister says they’re doing well and breathing on their own but will have to stay in the NICU until their due date, which was supposed to be 9/27! I haven’t heard details yet on why in the world they’re so darned early, but I suspect they’re probably identicals who were sharing an amniotic sac and placenta–those tend to overload things pretty early. Check out these eentsy toesies, squeee! Yeah, I’m so gushy I should be slapped–where did we leave that trout, anyway?

Donkeybear, what Unca Swampy said–just 'cuz you washed doesn’t mean we don’t know you DID THE DEED!!! Tsk tsk…

Nooner, I know you’re worried about your puppeh so I’m gonna ignore that last crack 'cuz I’m sure you are all deranged with concern and don’t know what you’re saying… :stuck_out_tongue:

{{{Alessan and Wallflower}}} Be okay, guys, okay?

Rosie, smack 'em in the kneecaps! No excuse for that kinda behavior…

I’m beat to pudding, think I’m gonna put in a movie and fall asleep on Himself’s lap!

Sorry no A/C workie, Pie. I hope it’s fixed sooner than they say it will be.

Lovely eulogy, Alessan.

**Shadow, ** it was nice of you to influence your place of employment to spring for a hotel room for your co-worker.

Well, I suppose I should head off to be. I’m not particularly sleepy for some odd reason, but I want to try and get up earlier tomorrow because I need to stop for some gasomoline on the way to work.

My plan is to go in for a couple of hours, then come home and pick up my daughter to go to our HMO, then drive down to UW-T, then various other errands, then the credit union, then the grocery store, and finally home. While we’re at UW, I need to haul my daughter into the Financial Aid office so they can give us some advice re: her options.

That’s about it for now, I think.

Hugs and smooches to everyone.

Abigatory dunken prost.

Morning all. Let’s try to catch up now, shall we?

Alessan, that was a beautiful eulogy for your grandmother.

{{{Flowers}}} I don’t know what else to say, because I don’t know what you’re feeling, I just sense it must feel empty and lonely. We’re here for you!

Yay Shadow, for being such a nice person!

Smartie, that tunic is gorgeous - you sure are talented!!! And those teeny tiny little baby girls are just sooooo keeeyooooote!

:: fans Pie with a take-out menu :: Here’s hoping your AC is fixed soon and the skeeters and spiders don’t kill you while you sleep! :stuck_out_tongue:

Fingers crossed your puppy-dog turns up somewhere Nooner! Poor old puppy is likely tired and hungry by now! :frowning:

Mork, I think the JesusPhone is just fine! Tell the man to go f*ck himself and the JesusHorse he rode in on!

doggio, hope your head’s okay come morning!
So, the weather here is truly sucky today. At 8am, the temperature was 93°F/34°C, with an expected maximum today of 104°F/40°C. That would be bad enough, but the humidity has really kicked in, so we are looking forward to an apparent maximum of 126°F/52°C!   Somebody come take me away to someplace cool and inviting for the next 8 weeks, please!

Checking in before class starts. Already have a headache - not a good start to the evening!

Hope you find your doggie, No1! I’d be devastated if that happened to Olive.

Pretty clothes, Smartie.

ETA: Dotty, and I thought Seoul was bad. :: fans Dotty with big feathery fan ::

No!
Now, another woman OTOH…

**Alessan **-- that was beautiful.

{{{Swampy}}} – Sorry to hear about your friend’s son.

{{{Flowers}}}

{{{Pie}}} – No A/C sucks. No A/C where you have multiple ovens and stoves (and refrigerators that can take so much ambient heat!) – sucks royally :frowning:

{{{Rosie}}} – people just don’t see others, do they…?

Shadow – you’re sweet. Despite Rosie’s experience :(, maybe there is some hope for the human race, after all!

**Aleq **-- of course I’m deranged. Concern? what does that have to do with anything…?

No dog. Talked to the kennel; they assured me that if he shows up they’ll call us (he’s 'chipped.) Truth is I’m pretty resigned to the idea he’s not coming back :frowning:
Thanks for all the crossed fingers and good wishes and thoughts, though!

**Haze **-- we’ve actually had more than one cat run away and just disappear into thin air :frowning: Then there was the cat we had whne the Terrible Twins[sup]TM[/sup] were born, who looked at them as they came in from the hospital, said “They go or I go,” and went… This was 11 years ago. I saw him lounging around the building as late as a year ago! He’d come up to be pet, but refused to come home.

Worst though was the cat who ran out, got glanced by a car (I guess), came home as usual, and… apparently had internal hemorrhage, and just died on us during the night :frowning: I had to dispose of that body – luckily I managed to do it without any the kids having to see him!
So in a way, if Terry (that’s the dog’s name) ran away to hide and die in a corner… maybe it’s for the best :frowning: I’m not saying RIP yet, however. I’m still hoping he’ll show up.

How very philosophical of you.

Yep, that’s the worst of it. In one fairly small room I have 2 50 cu ft refrigerators and 1 50 cu ft freezer. There’s no ventilation in this room and I’m not allowed to keep the doors open because I have no screen doors. Right now it’s still only in the high seventies outside, but if it warms up too much more then my kitchen will continue to get warmer. Above 90F in the kitchen my equipment starts to struggle.

I hope they make it back out today…

Whistles past this question…

All joking aside, it’s perfectly normal.

Alessan- beautiful remembrance.

Shadow- that qualifies you for sainthood, in my book!

Lunch- fingers crossed for best possible outcome for Terry-the-missing-pup :frowning:

Morning all! Why an I up this early? 'cause I am!

Special1 appendages still crossed for findin’ the pooch.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. I still need to forage for brekkies and purtify for work. Alas.

The good news is, Ima go in to work for a few hours this mornin’ and then work from da cave the rest of the day and tomorrow, which I like more and more. I can do what I need to do funeral wise on Thursday then go in for a while so that’ll work out too. I’m not tied down to workin’ a set number of hours as long as stuff gets done. So tonight and tomorrow I can make food stuff and work. I’m such a multitaskin’ bear!

Ok, gotta go get brekkies and purtified. Y’all have a good day/afternoon/evenin’!

Later Y’all!

SmartAleq, they’re so cute and tiny! Glad they’re doing well.

Everyone else, I’ll respond later. Morning!

Awwwww, tiny babies!!!

Up, NOL packed. Need to water and finish getting ready for work and get the heck out of here…

Hugs.

GT

It’s almost universal. We did it in Indiana, and it happens here in Nawth Carliner, too. This weekend, we got a post funeral thank you card. “The Family of <some guy we never heard of> wishes to thank you for your kindness and cake in our time of sorrow.”

Much  reigned for a couple of minutes, then we realized that it was from Reggie, the farmer that rents the open air barn. His FiL died at the end of May, and we took a cake to them.

Moooooooooom, I saw a car on the way to the office with your name on it, literally. The back window proclaimed, “Chocolate Freak”.

I done foraged already, and I’m still working on my first cup of Wake The Hell Up.

I’m not sleeping well again. I slept so much better in a tent on an airmattress rather than on our bed. How can that be?

Awwwww, cute teeny, tiny babies!

After many, many, many days off I actually have to go to work today. Sigh I so need to be independantly wealthy. This work stuff is for the birds.

How’d I miss babies???

They’re so very tiny… hope all goes smoothly and perfectly for them!
