A Memorial Day MMP

A friend of mine had a Newfie; Mister King. Sometimes I miss that dog as much as he does. The first time I was over the house, Mr. King comes over and parks his head across my leg waiting to see my reaction. Heck, it ain’t like I haven’t been drooled on before so I just moved my hand down and started scratching him. So then he walked over to his water dish, loads up for bear, and walks over and plants his head again. I swear by all that is holy, he looked me in the eye and grinned. My friend shouted at him but I said its OK ----- me and the jeans both get washed regularly. From that day on I was Mr. Kings best friend. When he died I cried the same as when my own beloved Sam-dog died.

But own a Newfie? Sorry — I’ll take a pass on that one.

Current supervisor has a penchant for handing out wipes to her agents for desk-cleaning and seems to Lysol unoccupied desks in our team’s area daily. She seems very commited to at least trying to keep her crew healthy. I can deal.

In other news, I’ve advanced a little on that potential better job. Got email this morning (after I was at irk and unable to access personal email until I got home) asking me to call to schedule an interview. Must handle this on the way to irk tomorrow.

Yay Nettie! All appendages crossed!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 84, cloudy, and a chance of rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon. We shall see. Today I play with ground beast and snausage, turnin’ it into skettie sauce, beastballs, and beastloafs. Fun times ahead! Some irk involved but mostly it will be sauce simmerin’ for a few hours.

Nettie appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed!

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then I shall purtify and commence with the ground beast and snausage.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Looks like the easiest way to replace a Newfie is to brush one.

Happy (checks my phone for the day) Thorsday!

This week has been screwy, Moonday felt like Sunday, Toosday felt like Moonday, yesterday felt like Thorsday, and today feels like Wednesday.

Today looks to be another nice, warm, N.O.S. day.

The windows are open and that drives the cat crazy.
He wants those chirping birds so badly, but of course if one lands near him he is running for cover.

**FCM **- I don’t worry about ticks out here. I’ve not seen any, and the dog never got one out here. Probably if I lived further out it would be an issue. My worry is cars, and the outdoor cats; they fight a lot.

Red - I used to watch a long haired white cat, mostly outdoor cat. In the summer time he was ugly, all scrawny and with patchy fur, in the winter time he was absolutely beautiful. You’d never know it was the same cat.
He was really sweet though, loved kids, and if my son went with me they would have the best time playing tag in the yard.

You are preparing well in advance for the new pup. I’ll probably be rushing around an hour before he/she is due to arrive puppy proofing the place.

Since I gave everything away, I’ll have to buy all new stuff.
I’ll worry about that when the time comes.

Good Luck! Nettie

I’m not sure if the back yard will be mowed today or tomorrow.
I’m pushing for today.

The neighbors are out doing something and they sure are noisy. I think they are renovating the downstairs apartment, they are talking about drywall.

Nothing special to do today.
Today should be nice, quiet, and boring.

Morning! Kid chivvying time. 2 more weeks. I can do this.

Happy Thursday!

Waiting on the computer, as usual - and here I find I didn’t post in the MMP yet! Of all the things I’ve lost, I miss my mind the most…

Happy Thursday!

Beastloafs (beastloaves?) and meatballs are made. two beastloafs (beastloaves?) and the meatballs are in da freezer for future consumption and the other beastloaf awaits bakeage for consumption this evenin’. Skettie sauce is simmerin’ away as I post. Go Me! 'Tis cloudy and off and on drizzly out but the temp is nice so I have opened da cave windows for a bit. I will need to close 'em up soon cause it is hyoooooomid out but the fresh air has been nice.

I just closed my windows and turned on the A/C because the Stately Turret started getting stuffy. Samantha Cat is disappointed that her window-sittin’ has been curtailed. She’ll get over it when the sunbeam comes in this afternoon.

Afternoon all.

I did have plans for today, but I appear to be not doing them, as evidenced by the fact that it’s after 4 pee emm, and I haven’t left the house. I did (finally) hopefully get the car situation sorted, after getting rammed back in April. Took 'em nearly three weeks to send someone round to look at it (they said they’d arrange it in 48 hours. Hah.), then the evaluation guys apparently just tried to call me when I was camping, failed to get through, and just shrugged and forgot about it, rather than contacting me or the insurance company like they should.

They claimed the work that needed doing was more’n the value of the car. I disagree (I only want the lock fixed, not every little dent taken out, the dents add character and help discourage people from parking too close), so they’re writing it off and sending me the money to sort it myself.

Luckily, they valued the car at almost twice what I actually paid for it, so it should be enough to get the lock fixed (Landlord’s Dad does car bodywork, so I’ll ask him for a quote)- even after they take their cut, it’s actually more than I paid in the first place, so I can’t honestly complain about that. I can complain about their ludicrous phone system and how long they just left my file sitting around without contacting me, but then I already did, to them.

We now have a new chef at irk. I am waiting with interest for tomorrow, my first full shift with him. I already know I ain’t gonna like irking with him as much as the previous one (he was manic the only time I’ve irked with him so far, I highly suspect chemical assistance), but I’ll give him a try. It’s only 2 more months either way.

I never got around to testing the other recipe yesterday, but I made them this morning and he likes them better. The almond meal made a huge difference in how they set up, they didn’t fall apart when I flipped them.
It’s a pretty easy recipe so it will get added into the rotation.

Grass is being mowed now, it is nice and breezy and cool outside. Good day for doing yard work.

Anyone seen Doggio since the game? Anyone?

On other news, shooting is done, the gun is clean, and now its time to get ready for work. The last one is not related to the other two. Honest.

:dubious:

Fist time in this week - Not lots of Memorial Day memories as no family losses due to military. Had some uncles in WWII but they survived. Though for the past number of years I’ve been included in a group that goes away to a beautiful place for some really special flying. However, this year, Mama Nature didn’t cooperate so much. :frowning:
Sat - did some exploring of cool & unique places to shoot (pics) from for next year & also confirmed that Bald is [del]beautiful[/del] majestic!
(The nest, with two eaglets, was in the next tree to the right.) Imagine iffn you had to get takeout food for the youngun’s every meal?

Still, got to see a boo-fit-al, misty sunrise Sunday moaning.
As for grills, I’ve had a Char-Broil fire box for 20+ years; yes, I’ve replaced the guts (burner, grates, drip cover) once or a few times but the fire box is still in good shape. It’s a big grill so I can do lots of (different) things on it; frequently doing an entire meal on it - apps, entree, sides, & dessert. I have never understood why Weber is sooo stinkin’ 'spensive. They may be better, but twice, triple, quadruple as much? Can only assume it’s like buying a Rolls Royce.

Is it related to the first one - where is Doggio (buried)

Good luck, Nettie!

The GirlChild and family had a Newfie. A big lovable, drooly oaf who didn’t live long enough. SIL had always wanted one and so when they got married, he procured one. Now they have a menagerie of miscellaneous mutts.

Sunny, Swissy? I don’t know what that is. Please enlighten.

I had a wonderful Newfoundland / Black Lab mix back a lifetime ago.

I miss that dog more than most people.

<in “mother” voice: Spidey, have you been fighting again??!?

Ordered new windows today, should be installed sometime between 10-15 June. Got a good price, so went shopping for new front and back doors, turns out you have to paint them yourself, so that’s something else to consider.

Post June-July vacation, I’ll look to get a new water pump (water flow into the house is adequate but not very strong) and new ceiling fans. Just doing my best for the American working man…

I love Newfies, but doubt I could care for one (or two). However, If I ever hit the lottery big-time I’m buy property on a lakeside and getting 2 or 3 of them.

Greater Swiss Mountain dog. You know those dogs that always in commercials. They looks like odd labs. They are usually black, with tan feet, a white chest. Their face has tan eyebrows, and most have some white from the muzzle narrowing to a point up between the ears. They were bred to be farm/working dogs in the Alps.

Congrats on the windows!

I know my Newfie is NOT typical of the breed. Most are slightly more intelligent, for one. I’ve known others. Also, mine has a hybrid double undercoat. It most closely resembles a sheep’s wool. If he ins’t brushed daily, he is prone to hot spots. It is nearly impossible to brush him, however, due to the type of fur. Poodle fur maybe similar too. He’s also big enough to rest his head on my kitchen counters, and he really doesn’t care that much about obedience. He adores me. He physically pines when I go on trips. Sits by the door I left through and waits until I return. Yet he still won’t obey, unless there’s food involved. Even with food involved, the furthest we ever got is sit. He just doesn’t care. As a result, he has stolen more food than you can imagine from places you would never think a dog can reach, even cabinets. I love him, but never again.

Beastloaf, steamed cabbage, mac 'n cheese and corn bread made for a good dindin. Skettie sauce got cooled down and is now in containers in da freezer. We have been invitated to eat at Olive Garden tomorrow. OG excites me not but, hey, free meal!
