A Memorial Day MMP

Frustrating morning. I’m doing a couple of drawings for Brent, and the top level model is gigantic, taking for-freekin’-ever to load. So I spend a lot of time humming the Final Jeopardy theme as I wait.

Good times, good times…

Ended up staying up until 1am yesterday/today, since I had taken a late nap. So of course got up about 7am, setting myself up for another nappage…

The June grocery shopping is completed, save for corn and celery, which I’ll procure later. I also bought a new camera for my upcoming Baltic trip, the old one (which lasted 3 years, which is pretty good for me) seems to devour batteries, even when it is off, so add another camera (Sony) to the list.

Big Kitty and swampy. Happy you got so much cleaning done. Your actions have inspired me to…think about it.

Sunny, the kids are still in school? Our school year ended at Memorial Day.

I got a couple more cards in the mail for gifts made to the church in memory of mom. You all will be pleased to know I promptly sat down and wrote the appropriate thank you notes. I’m all manners, class, and couth like that.

Schools are also out down this way. Well, except for the kid next door who is apparently in summer school as I saw a bus stop there this mornin’ to pick her up. Poor thing.

Ha! Our schools are still set up the sensible old timey way that I was raised. They start after Labor Day and end in June. None of this starting in August when it’s still Summer! We’re getting close to finished, which is awesome, but not there yet.

Pizza was ingested last night but not enjoyed all that much, at least by me. When Papa Murphy’s first came out with their taco grande pizza it was terrific. Over the years it seems that they’ve slowly cut down on the amount of toppings until it just a hint of its former self.
I blame it on business school graduates. I spent 30+ years working for corporate Merika and have a lot of experience with business school graduates. ptooi!
I may have to switch allegiance to one of the leventy-dozen other pizza places in town.
Unfortunately, PM is just 6 blocks away, and we like cooking it ourselves.

Sunny, our grill is a 4 burner propane Char-Broil. I bought it at Home Depot a bunch of years ago for, IIRC, $150.00 on sale at the end of one summer. I’ve replaced various parts over the years, mostly drip shields, but I’ll probably keep it until the bottom burns through, like the last one. I don’t need anything fancy ‘cause I’m not much good at grillin’. Never have been. But I do it anyway.

I was just sitting here looking at an ad from one of the local grocery stores and there’s a picture of tumeric powder and on the bag it says “organic, gluten free, vegan” :dubious: It’s tumeric powder! :smack: I think I know why the aliens don’t try to talk to us.

I need to go do something useful, or not.

**FCD **didn’t want supper. I had stopped at an Amish market on the way home and I got some 'maters. So my supper was a fresh 'mater and a small bagel with cream cheese. The 'mater tasted like a 'mater, not one of them nasty hard things you get in the grocery store.

Happy tummy!!

Yankees have taste! Who knew?

Hey now! Some of us grew up raising at least some of our food. Also had lots and lots of cousins who grew the animals that were too big to raise in our yard in LA. It’s a bit of curse to know what food is supposed to taste like though. :frowning:

My mom has always had a backyard garden, and when we were kids, my favorite snack was to pick a ripe tomato off the vine, slice it in thick slabs, and put it on lightly toasted bread with a little mayo and salt. OMG!!! <drool>

I also love cukes right off the vine! And thanks to the many Amish farms around here, I can get amazing corn and cantaloupes and watermelons and peaches… I lurves my county!

Dindin has been ingested and the kitchen cleaned. Go Me! It looks tomorrow could be stormy which is OK by me cause I plan to spend most of the day makin’ up skettie sauce, meatballs, and beastloafs. I have thirty pounds of ground beast and ten pounds of snausage to entertain myself with tomorrow. I also have all kinds of containers all over the kitchen table. One of the beastloafs will be for dindin tomorrow and I foresee havin’ at least two to freeze along with a bunch of meatballs and a bunch of skettie sauce. Tell me I don’t know how to have fun with retirement!

Yep. We had a backyard garden too. Tomatoes and cukes (a few too many of those sometimes) and strawberries. Also lemons, oranges, grapefruit, peaches, plums, and green beans. Sometimes carrots and a few other things. Then I hit the real world and all that stuff tastes like styrofoam. Bleah.

How cold does it get in your part of Oregon?

This was when I grew up in LA. Plenty warm for citrus.

Here I’d need a green house. I am thinking about putting one in.

Congrats to the Sprog!

sunny, it sounds like you want a fancy outdoor gas range. :stuck_out_tongue:

swampy, I handled the thank yous after Mom passed too. We were still getting donations for a couple of months. Today would have been her 84th birthday.

Mooooom, did you eat that sammich over the kitchen sink? :stuck_out_tongue:

We truck farmed some acregage out at my grandparent’s place when I was growing up, so I know how good garden produce should taste. Speaking of which, I have nearly ripe 'maters on all of the plants now. I’m thinking of doing a second planting.

Yes, yes. I want a fancy outdoor gas range. I cook on the grill almost year round. My current grill has been through a tornado and two long distance moves. It is no longer level. It is missing a wheel. One of the doors is missing part of a hinge, and won’t close. It does not do the cooking thing so well anymore. It is a sad thing. I don’t really use it, and consequently I am cooking a lot less. This is bad. New Grill Time!!!

Happy Hump Day!

although the day is almost over.

It was a nice warm and N.O.S. day today.
The front postage stamp got mowed. I sat outside for a bit. I also took a nap.
There was a rabbit out front the other evening, and he was really chowing down on the dandelions. I wish he/she would come back and bring friends.

All this talk of cemeteries gave me weird dreams.

In one dream I was back at my uncle’s farm.
Really it was my great great grandfathers farm, but my uncle and his brothers bought it for a vacation property. They are not my great great grandfathers family, my uncle married my aunt who is.
Anyway, this is a true story, not part of the dream.

This house was way way way up in the mountains. Dirt road access, and the land around the house was rented out to a farmer somewhere, so there were cows everywhere. Off to the side and in front of the house was a small graveyard. Only a few graves, one of them being my great great grandfather’s first wife, who died giving birth to twin girls. I remember thinking how sad it was that she died so young, she was 23 I think. However, if she hadn’t died, my great great grandfather would not have married my great great grandmother and I wouldn’t be here.

A little up the hill from the graveyard was a dead tree. Pretty much just the trunk was standing there, and I remember thinking it looked like the tree standing was guard over the graves.

So my cousins and I were standing outside talking, they saw me jump and they all started laughing. One of my cousins said, ‘you saw it too, everybody jumps when they see it’.

I swear that just for a moment I saw a man with a rifle standing next to that tree, he was dressed in clothes like my great grandfather used to wear.

This was a long time ago, I was in my early teens. We stayed at the house for a few nights, and I remember I could never sleep because the ‘voices’ kept me awake all night.

I’m sure that property has been sold by now, I think my uncle is the only one left of all the brothers.

Then I dreamed about the cemetery in Baltimore where my grandparents are buried. That one was spooky. The trees were all so overgrown that no sunlight was getting though, and the whole place was foggy and you could’t see anything.

Even though the pancakes looked horrible, Sah-son said there were good, except for being a little too sweet. Tonight I’ll try the other recipe, I think he might like it better. I don’t have any nutmeg, but I’ll get some if he is going to want more of these. I have to use up the other bananas tonight because they are ripe and the smell is getting to me.
I did pretty well mashing them up, but the smell of them frying made me a little queasy. I hate bananas, but I’ll make them for him. Once I get the technique down, I can teach him and he can make his own.

Good luck with the job search Big Kitty and Nettie.

Wow Swampy - you are welcome to come and cook at my house anytime!

I wish I could shop once a month MetalMouse. I need a bigger freezer first.

Bumba my laundry detergent has right on the box that it is gluten free and non-gmo. Nothing about vegan though :frowning:
I can’t figure out if it is supposed to be a joke or if it’s a marketing ploy aimed at stupid people.

Congrats to the Sprog!

I wish I would get a burst of cleaning energy.

When do you get the pup Red?
I( am so jealous.

I have about 3 months to go, if there is a pup available from the June litter.
I need to puppy proof as well, but I have time.

I need to buy a harness for the cat. He wants outside now that the weather is nice. He went out front with me the other night but as soon as the neighbor slammed his door shut, Adam rushed for the front door and demanded to be let in. He is a regular wussie cat. If he is going to go out though, I want him on a harness so he can’t go into the street.

Taz wants to get out in the worst way, but he didn’t like being on a leash, and frankly, I don’t want him exposed to possible ticks. On the rare occasions when he sneaks out, we grab him and haul him back inside within a few seconds. He goes maybe 10-20 feet outside, then starts yowling as he lies down. Idiot cat.

sari, Nelson should be in Tennessee by late July or early August. I’m just trying to make sure there’s not anything within his reach that he could get hurt on or that he could destroy.

I used to have a cat who would have liked more outdoor time, but she was allergic to fleas, long haired and white with pink skin underneath, making her a veritible flea buffet. Needless to say, she didn’t get to go out much.

On other notes, I left work and the Penguins started scoring. But I insist it isn’t my fault.

I have sent a note to a Swissy breeder. Thinking about adding a second generation before the current one gets too old to appreciate it. Note - will not be replacing the Newfie with another Newfie. He’s a sweet, lovable oaf. Also, dumb as dirt and lazy as the day is long. I love him, but never again.
