NPR freaked me out today. They were talking about a horrible place that can be found in Statesboro GA. A **tick **museum! The horrors! An entire building filled with ticks! I will now avoid Statesboro, GA because if I get near that place I will be forced to burn it down for the good of humanity.
Note to Statesboro police: I will not actually burn down your fair city unless and until the **ticks **escape. See that they don’t.
BigKitty I believe Peaches who has not posted in a while is from Statesboro. Maybe the ticks got her!
I’d find that odd to do on Memorial Day but here in the south, at least, many churches with cemeteries have what is called a “Decoration Day” where people spiff up and put flowers on the graves of their dearly departed.
Howdy y’all. I was in the Navy from 66 to 70, but I never did anything to be proud of, (in fact I was pretty much a self-absorbed little prick), and I’m always embarrassed when somebody say “thank you for your service.” I don’t feel like I deserve any thanks.
I knew guys who died in service, and I always try to think of them on Memorial day, but mostly I’d like to ignore it.
Talking about cemeteries always make me think about the cemetery where my youngest brother is buried in Michigan. The last time I was there it was a total mess, and made me very sad. I looked for my brother’s grave but couldn’t even find it. My Mom and Dad are in the military cemetery in Pensacola Florida. My other brother is in a cemetery in Atlanta. I think that’s as far as I want to follow this train of thought. If I was going somewhere with this I’ve forgotten where anyway.
In a few minutes I’m gonna put a ‘Taco Grande’ pizza from Papa Murphy’s (take n bake) in the oven. They only sell taco grandes from the last week of April til the end of May, so we wanted to have one last one and the diet be damned!
I believe that people would be inclined to put flowers on the graves of their relatives if other folks were doing it for memorial day. Were MN and ND states during the Civil War?
Yay for new arrival! Of course it’s work, but it doesn’t last too long and it’s worth it! I haven’t had puppies in years, btw, but I still use a baby gate to keep the dogs out of the cat boxes (AKA kitty almond roca).
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I myself just had a Diary Queen Blizzard. It was good.
Had the last window guy in and he provided the lowest bid, but only by $100 or so. So I have three estimates close to each other and another that is nearly double them…guess which one I’m throwing out…
Ended up taking a late nap after 5pm and will probably have trouble sleeping tonight. Otherwise nothing to report. The start-of-the-month grocery shopping trip is planned for tomorrow.
Oy. Happies, good on ya’s, and other assorted expressions of regard. Apply as appropriate.
The sprog has officially graduated from eighth grade! Friday was the big field trip to DC and today was the award ceremony in the morning, physical for camp and school in the afternoon, and graduation mass and reception in the evening. The seventh grade parents plan the reception and this year had a red carpet theme. There was a red carpet with “Hollywood stars” with the names of the graduates and their intended high schools; there was a “bouncer” to make sure the parents went in the parent door and the kids went in the kids’ door; seventh-grade “waiters” in white shirts and black bow ties walked around with trays of food; and there were photo stations with props and backdrops.
In the meantime, I have an ear infection. I had been having problems with my left ear filling up with gork but kept putting off going to the doctor. I finally said something about it to the nurse when I checked in with the sprog, and she had me see him. I got a Z-pack, and I should be as good as new once the gork drains and the whirlies and nausea go away. I might be staying home an extra day.
Conga-rats to the Sprog! Hope you feel better soon (and stay home and rest - whirlies are no fun).
Hubby is off to California. Kids have shocked me twice today by doing homework early.
I have to say I’m really, really looking forward to summer vacation. I don’t morning well. Some time off from morning-ing will be nice. Also, I get to see the family this summer, and we have the eclipse. The summer should be fun.
I am going to buy a BBQ. I have it down to two models: a KitchenAid at CostCo, which is $700, and a Weber, which I will have to special order, for $1900.
Basically, I want 4 burners. An infrared/high heat sear burner on the grill, and a rotisserie burner on the back of the grill. Plus the rotisserie.
I have had a similar KitchenAid in the past. I liked some things about it, but some things didn’t last (like the lighter). I have had a smaller Weber in the past. I like the quality somewhat better and I know I can get the parts to repair it, which will happen. Is that worth almost 3 times the price? Any of you have any opinions on this very important question? KitchenAid or Weber?
Other than that I worked, ate and continued to finish stuff for Cook Forest. And the following vacation. Which follows 4 work days after Cook. June is going to be busy but who cares? It includes …
Personally, I think of cats as furry teenagers, what with the attitude.
Desperately hoping that that paperwork I got from the county about a job I applied for so long ago I’d forgotten I had done so pans out. Took somewhere around 75 calls today, and that’s a bit low, really. Need to get that handle time down. Throw in the fact that I was away from home for FIFTEEN HOURS today, between 8 hours irking, 45 minutes for lunch, and the rest either riding transit vehicles or waiting for same, and I am OVER this job. Can’t afford to quit until I have something else lined up, don’t have time or energy to LOOK for something else.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and mostly cloudy with a chance of a stray tstorm. We shall see. I shall finish defilthyfyin’ da cave this mornin’ and go grocery shoppin’ (ICK!) as well. Dindin shall be my world famous Eyetalian chikin and whatever I decide should be sides. I have not brained that far ahead yet this mornin’.
{{{Nettie}}} here’s hopin’ you find a new and better gig soonest.
**red congrats on the pendin’ new overlord.
Sunny I always buy Charbroil grills. No real reason other than they seem to last me a good long while. I have my eye on a propane smoker right now but I don’t need one. Maybe next year.
OK, I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I shall finish up da cave, purtify and go brave the Pubic Sto’.
I’ve been running behind all day so far, and I don’t know why. Instead of making breakfast and lunch, I decided to stop at WaWa - mainly because I want a chef salad for lunch and I like their croissant sammiches for breakfast.
I need to remember to call my car guys - I’m due for an oil change - about to hit 125K miles in just over 5 years. I think we probably drive a lot. Anyway, I’ll arrange to have it done on Firday when I’m off. Other than that, just work.
Up and muttering at the day. Chivvying children off to school. Then a nap I imagine. I’m guessing this pattern is contributing to my problem sleeping at night, but I can’t seem to bust out of it. If I only get 2-3 hours at night, then I need a nap. So there. Pbbbttt. Hmmm. I may be vewwy, vewwy tired today.
I just had a cleaning spree attack. It started with cleaning the dried mud off my shoes from my walk down the Treacherous Path and ended with me going through my file box and hand-shredding a lot of old papers. The file box is now much, much lighter. Along the way I vacuumed the closet, took my winter shirts off the clothes rack to be washed and put away for the warm season, and straightened a couple of drawers.
I’m doing all this to keep the negative thoughts at bay. Part of my mind so wants to beat me up for not being super-aggressive about job hunting from the moment I got fired, but the rational part of me recognizes that I needed a vacation to recover from the mental strain of seven years of a crap job that wore me out in ways I didn’t even know about until it was all gone. I’ve got a plan worked out for job hunting because now I’ve purged a lot of the old stresses and I’m a lot more stable now.
Seasonal’s psychology degree is rubbing off on me, it seems. She can’t help analyzing everyone, just like Irish Storyteller can’t help being a news junkie and I can’t help turning everyone who does my friends wrong into a villain for my stories.
Blurf and here I am again at irk. Last day of the month so I have a few things I can do but the majority is on the 1st.
Clerk got out of the horsepistol and promptly came by to spread some germs. really to hand me a Dr. note. Like I really needed a note but did not need the germs. Some people, I swear. No common sense. I told her I would not visit in horsepistol cause I could not be sick and damn if she doesn’t just show up here with a germy note.
Da cave is now all spiffed and provisions have been procured. Go Me! I’d say that was more than a mornin’s irk. I have green beans, squishes, and wild rice to go with the world famous Eyetalian chickin so dindin will be good. For now however 'tis surf teh intartoobz and chill time.
Butters there was an English teacher at my high school who was a big time germophobe. She would not take paper directly from your hand. She would grab it with a tissue. She also sprayed her classroom with Lysol after each class.
