A MoveableDopeFest, the details or Calling all Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana Dopers

Probably not for another few years, unless we win the lottery or have a very sucessful bake sale :(. First we need a car that can make the trip and $800 for gas, plus food and hotels… We’re thinking of doing it as our honeymoon…that way we can get wedding gifts from all of y’all :D.

I personally hope Zappo brings the snap-in Lawyer Fangs.™

Oh - great - so much for THAT secret identity… and Mr. Pol really liked the tights, too! (as long as it was ME wearing them…) And it’s amazing what you can do with Silly String…

Aw Rue-baby I’m not avoiding you, I promise!
Mr. Pol had eye surgery last week & I’ve been the slightly harried nurse - he is getting better.

Mebbe the Pols & De Days can mosey over to Wright-Patt sometime & go look at all the planes…

For you I’ll bring 'em, Ellen. How can I resist a hot tomato who starts her own threads? Sheesh, you could have asked for my credit cards and I would have brought them for you. [sub]Damn, did I say that out loud?[/sub]

Now if you’ll excuse me, there are widows and orphans what need kicking out into the cold. . .

Zap!

Sheesh, and it’s in one of Rue’s threads, too!

I almost forgot to tell yizz. I heard from Medea’s Child the other day and she sends her regrets, as does Guinistasia. They have other commitments, unfortunately.

Oh well, just means more Flan of Peace for us.

BTW Shibb, I hope the fact that I’m bringing the snap-in Lawyer Fangs doesn’t change the Missus’ opinion of me. I’ll lock 'em in the car so the Olethings don’t get into 'em.

Zap!

S’okay, Zappo, you can bring the fangs. The Boy is Batman[sup]®[/sup], he’ll protect us. Last night the Olethlings[sup]TM[/sup] that it was time to beat them both soundly and put them to bed, the Boy said, “ok, hand me my mask”. Once he has the mask and cape on there’s nobody gonna mess with him. He’s ready to rumble. Just so you know. Full disclosure and all that rot.

Rue is prodding me to get some specifics out there, so I shall start anon. First, we are haggling on where to have the kick off Cincinnati dinner. If you’ve been paying attention, you have seen Rue’s little hint about the Olive Garden. To list the nominees thus far: [ul][li]Olive Garden – Italian family chain, Prices: $7.50 - $17.95[]Watson Bros Bistro & Brewpub – Bisto/Pub food with Microbrews (from Mainstreet Brewery?)[]LaRosa’s – local Pizza/Italian chain, Prices: $5-10[]Skyline – Cincinnati Chili parlor, Prices: $3-6 (Greek spaghetti)[]Montgomery Inn – Ribs, Prices: $12.95-18.95[]Buca di Beppo’s – family style Italian with Pope Room, Prices $8.95-19.95[]Max and Erma’sAmerican Chain (similar to TGIFriday’s)Prices, $6.99-16.99[/li][li]Chili’s – Burger’s, Ribs, Texmex, Prices: $5-16??[]Trio’s – Pizza/Bistro, Prices: $5-16??[/ul][/li]
So, let me know what sounds good, what price range your most comfortable with and if you have an particular dietary restrictions (vegetarians might have a bit of trouble eating at Skyline or Montgomery Inn, for example). If you have another place in mind, e-mail or post something about it here so we can take it into consideration. It’s best if you send me an e-mail (sawsuaa@hotmail.com, same’s in the profile). I am trying to build an e-mail list of everyone who’s expressed an interest, so if you e-mail me it makes it easier for me to send stuff out to you. If you won’t be in Cincinnati, don’t vote, we’ll cover the other places later. And make sure you save room for the Flan 'o Peace (I sure hope that recipe’s scalable).
PS to Rue: Queenie’s Weenies is, as far I have been able to tell, no more. Some say that they moved to Montgomery, but I am not able to locate them. Let me know if you have info since I like a good hotdog.
[sub]*May not be available on this short notice on a Friday night (the Pope Room, I mean).[/sub]

Is the Rookwood Pottery still open? That’s such a cool place to eat.

LOL Zap.

The ones I kept in your quote are also located in Louisville, Shibb. Just an FYI.

I propose a mission.

As you may know, **evilbeth ** had a preemie baby earlier this week.

How’z about you guys & gals make a stop by Make-A-Bear at Castleton & get a fuzzywuzzy for Emma?

If the mall’s not in your plans - beanie babies can be found just about anywhere…

Politzania, I think a mission is a great idea. I was thinking we need some sort of tangible objective. How about we create a gift packet for evilbeth and Emma, from unique items we find along the way (or semi-unique, there’s a make-a-teddy in the mall nearest to my house).

So your mission, Dopers, is to think of what item from yer-neck-o-the-woods is unique to add to our care package for Emma (I know what my contribution will be).

Back to the Teddy theme, we could also start with one of those and make sure he is photoed with all of the Dopers we meet along the way, together with a diary of the trip (edited for little ears by Uncle Rue, story guy, of course).

Whaddya think, s’no or yes?

Buca di Bepo’s! I love that place! We can reserve the Pope’s head table if we have enough people.

As you can tell by this belated post, I would love to attend the Friday night Cincy dinner. I met Shib and others at the Halloween OhDope and would love to see some Dopers again. Well, I did run in to Shib and the Shiblings at the movies a couple weeks ago. Let me just tell you that those kids are adorable times infinity. As I’m sure the Dopers at the Friday night dinner will be too.

P.S. I think I still have an Uhuru halloween costume somewhere in my basement.

Well, folks, I have good news and I have bad news. O.K., I have only bad news. The new boss has arrived and she is the Grinch’s PMS-ridden, black-hearted, authoritarian, uber-beast older crankier sister. The jury has come back and the verdict is… she IS the Anti-Christ.

And to Cherry Lou Who,
For whom Dopefest was near,
There is no celebration.
Not there and not here.

There is no joy in Whoville,
No hope for a Who.
No silly brainiacs,
With which to get stewed.

Dopefest has been stolen.
Cherry’s birthday ruined, too.
To the Dopers: I’m sorry.
To Ms. Grinch: Poo on you.
P.S. If I just had a spoon maybe I could tunnel out before- SSSSSHHHHHHH! The Guards!

Let me cast a vote for the Montgomery Inn. Food and atmosphere are great. Fantastic BBQ sauce. Bob Hope places an order every week…

The only reservation I have about Buca di Beppo’s is getting reservations. For the Pope Table that is. I heard from someone who was talking to this one girl who knows someone that reservations for the Pope Table are hard to come by.

I don’t know what non-Pope Table big party reservations are like. Luckily, it’s not my problem.

My main vote goes to:
Buca di Beppo’s

with The Olive Garden as a back-up contingency plan. And Don Pablo’s or Max and Erma’s as an emergency back-up contingency.

Or the way things are shaping up, everyone can take Chinese take away to Shibb’s place and we’ll eat on his rumpus room floor. (Or what ever take away you want. “Chinese” was just for example.)
-Rue.

(But isn’t the big snag Lexington? Not naming any names 'cause everyone knows who’s not holding up their end of the stick, even with good “excuses” and stuff. The kick off Cincinati dinner is a “Go” all 'round. Right?)

First off, Cincinnati kick-off dinner is definitely a go. Then we need to guilt dwyr into being our host in Lexington. I will check with Booka D. Beh Poh today. I had read that they even had a large table in the kitchen, so we could really get in the way. [sub]hmmm, why does the sauce taste just a wee bit off tonight… where’s Rue?[/sub] As a back up we will have back ups. I don’t know that there are any easy to find Olive Garden’s, at least I couldn’t find any on their site. But I do recall there being on on Montgomery Road just in Kenwood somewhere. As another backup we could do take out to my house, then I can drink as much beer as I like without worrying about the drive home, and there is definitely a family friendly factor. Just throw the kids in the basement. I have a very large dining table, but we’d make Rue sit at the kid’s table.

Also, in the other thread that is sort of a fake this thread, I mentioned that I’ve stocked up some Czech pils and some English ESB, just in case Zappo or thinksnow get thirsty. I also have a mini-keg of Bitburger** in my fridge so I guess the rest of you could have some. I tend to run amok a bit when I get to Jungle Jim’s.

Oh you guys. I have good news. The Nutcracker outing has been moved to the 22nd, so it appears I’ll be in Lexington on the 15th. We have an Olive Garden here, but it sits right in the parking lot of the biggest mall in the state. A mall which serves not only Lexington, but the entire eastern half of the state as well, at Christmas time. So, while I was going to suggest having a lunch there, we may want to reconsider.

I would be happy to see you all, though. Would you want to brave the mall? Is the guilting of dwypr (is that her name? blush. I can’t scroll back and find it 'cause the thread’s too long. But I like “dwypr.” It looks like “doper” … or “diaper.” Good heavens, I think I’m channeling Rue…)

Anyway, is this an all-adult thing? I don’t see me bipping around on a Saturday without my children, so I’d like to know if they’re welcome. What do you all WANT to do in Lexington? Go by the castle? Zip through a horse farm? Shop? See Santa? Give me something to work with.

And just because I’m bursting to tell someone, here’s a celebrity name drop: Both Bob Edwards and Tommy Smothers are going to be in my office today, for VO recording! Tommy for a script I wrote. Yeeha!

Yeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaah! Ellen (the Brown-Eyed Hot Tomato) is in! Didja hear that, she’s in! Whoopee!

I’ll do anything, as long as you’re there. But I will need to get a Lexington, KY shotglass at some point during the trip. Or else the shelf will have a huge gapin’ hole and that’s not A Good Thing.

And bring the younguns. I love kids! We can put 'em in the wayback in the Lansing Lexus and they can get a taste of the good 'ol days before minivans. Heck, I’ll even yell, “If I stop this car, NOBODY gets ice cream!” so they can get the full experience.

That’s fantastic about Tommy Smothers. I’m a big Smothers Brothers fan. If you get to meet him, would you tell him I’m a big fan? And could you get me his autograph? Please? <bats eyelashes>.

Yes, I did have six cups of coffee before noon today. How did you know? Hehehehe.

Zap!

Zap, everyone knows that it isn’t the “wayback”, it’s the “way-way back”. The back seat is the “wayback”. The third row seat is the “way-way back”.

And you call yourself a station wagon owner.

Well, so much to say, so little organization:

Ellen, I think that no price is too great to pay to see your smiling face. Bring on the screaming kidlets! (Okay, I know Rue and I both have children, so we’re immune anyway) And it’s lunch, so what could happen? The only down side is that we’ll get distracted by the cute kiddoes and forget about you.

We should meet up where ever you advise, your again our official tourguide for the Lexistop. Castle’s are fun, and I can’t back up and look at your other suggestions (I got a phone call after I hit the reply, so I’m going by my quickly fading memory). Just so’s Zappo get’s his shot glass.

And we definitely need to pull dwyr into this, so you don’t have to put up with us all by yourselves. If we could do it somewhere where cherry_blossom_ can meet us for lunch that would be fantabulous. Any input, CB?
