Yes, I used to live near Lake Superior myself. They don’t call it that for nothing!
Lissa, I know - I just showed the SO and he thinks it’s fall-down funny too. Gawd I love British humor.

Either that or you have something on your mind. Anything you want to share? Having any itches lately?
Mama Tigs,
Here are some CDs I think are really good and have good music. These are movie names, mmkay? I’ve included the definitions of the names though.
PLEASE NOTE! You do NOT have to watch all of these videos, unless you want to. I included them so you could get some idea if this is the kind of music you like. Plus, I just wanted to, it was fun.
Hum Aapke Hai Kaun (Who am I to you?), Particularly:
*Maye ni Maye *(Mother O Mother)
Pehela Pehela Pyar Hai) (It’s my first love)
(Joote Dedo) (Give me the shoes!
Salaam-E-Ishq (Love’s Sweet Salute or A Salute to Love) All the songs are good, but in particular:
Salaam-e-Ishq Title Song
Tenu Leke (I will take you)
Dil Kya Kare( What’s a heart to do?)
Saiyan Re (O my Love
*Roja *(erm…rose I think. But it’s South Indian and remade in Hindi.)
I can only find S. Indian versions, but here’s one:
Rukmani
*Tezaab *(Acid)
Ek Do Teen (1, 2, 3) This is the girl’s version. Later in the movie the guy sings it and I actually prefer his version.
*Bunty aur Bubli *(Bunty & Bubli) has a few good songs.
Kajrare re (Dark-eyed girl) which I showed you before.
Monsoon Wedding has a few very good songs.
*Chunari Chunari *(O your veil) which it says is from Biwi #1 (Wife # 1) but I got it from my Monsoon Wedding CD.
*Taal *(Beat) has beautiful songs.
I showed you Taal se Taal yesterday.
Ishq Bina (Without Love)
Ramta Jogi*
That’s a start.
*I don’t know how to translate “Ramta Jogi” in a few words. In Hindi, a *jogi *is an ascetic, or yogi, right? Someone who gives up everything for their God. Well this means someone who gives up everything for love. And *ramta *means “Wandering”. So we have “Wandering yogi”.
Er…wait. That was easier than I thought, wasn’t it? :smack:
Also Movie *Dus *(10) has :
Dus Bahane (10 excuses)
Don’t know what it’s from but I like it :
Aaja Udiye (Let’s fly). Dancing makes me laugh, though. The language is extremely old-fashioned, and the dance is…er…well, not.
I also love this video, it’s so sweet. This is the only one I recommend everyone watch, even if you’re sick unto death of Indian music. This one is soooooo charming.
Aur ahista kijiye baatein (Whisper to me)
So I hope that helps a little in getting you started. As you buy/beg/borrow these CDs or these songs you can start looking for other works by the same artists/composers. And every so often I’ll try to assist with more suggestions.
Please ask if you have any questions!
Ok, I missed the video of the temple–is it somewhere on page 3?
RE the nurses in this thread…<AHEM! Excuse me!> :dubious:
Dotty-all I can suggest is scrupulous hand washing, laundry and fluids. God help you…
I am home from work. #2 son is mad at me because I made him and his friends tidy their Legos. Such a mean mom. And The Husband is home again, asleep–I guess going to Moline on business takes it out of you.
Hotter than hell here (well, in the 80s) and so humid you could stir the air. Ugh and yuck.
Laughed my ass off at the cancy-wancy…I know too many people like that!
Hee! I love that sketch. I still say “tommy-toes” for tomatoes ever since seeing that one.
I’ve never participated in an MMP, I don’t think. I’m a little scared. Hmm. But I wanted, for some ridiculous reason to tell someone about this, and it doesn’t warrant even it’s own M&P thread… so… well… this is a clip from an email I was going to send my lil’ bro, but then decided not to. I don’t know why.
I hate making myself laugh. It seems so damn tacky. But it’s making me giggle something awful.
Fun night so far. I made chilli for dinner. Maggie yanked down the window blinds to yell at another beagle on “her” lawn. The can of wasp spray in the kitchen started spraying by itself.
Meeks, thanks for the links, I’ll have to look through them. Thank you for sharing.
HEEELLLLOOOOO rigs!!! Can I have my spongebath now?
Mork, Quazichild hasn’t been conceived, let alone run into that sort of girl yet.
Rosie, I had Tex, the neighbor’s 20lbs. cat fall asleep on my chest. I woke up gasping for air.
Anastasaeon, don’t be scared. You’re a Cool Kid[sup][sup]TM[/sup][/sup] now. Finish the rest on the envelope, tape it to the card and send it. That’s what I’d do.
Wasp spay really messes up your spelling ability. I misspelled half the word in this post.
I think that card is hilarious, Anastasaeon! Seem appropriate, given the circumstances.
I hate summer. I feel so sticky and drowsy and useless.
Doggie, one generally tries to point the opening away. (I know you said it started by itself but I couldn’t resist.) Are you OK, though?
Also, I was going to e-mail **mama **alll those links but figured I could share them.
Ana, welcome! It seems like I haven’t seen you in ages.
Hi all! I’m back from my adventures in Wedding/Honeymoon land! I wish I had some sort of amazing, entertaining, bridezilla/groomonster/wedding-from-hell story, but I don’t. The wedding was beautiful and went off without a hitch (except for a few things that only The Elf and I knew that got messed up and no one noticed). My dress was a big hit, and it was worth every penny I spent on it. The catering was perfect, the staff at the site were wonderful, helpful and professional. My sister and brother-in-law did the flower arrangements and they came out fantastic. Mad props to my sis who was the best matron-of-honor a girl could have.
For our honeymoon, The Elf and I went to Captiva Island, Florida and spent a week laying on the beach, eating, drinking, and shelling. South Seas Island Resort is wonderful; five star service, lovely rooms, helpful staff. We had a suite with a living room, full kitchen and screened porch facing the Gulf of Mexico. We will probably never be able to afford to go there again, but I would like to go back to Sanibel/Captiva again soon. Not a lot to do there, but if all you are after is a relaxing time in the sun, it’s the place to be. We saw some dolphins not far off the beach and lots of cool birds and a couple of raccoons. I got some cool shells and a piece of sponge that washed up on the beach. I still need to bleach/disinfect it, it doesn’t smell very pleasant right now and is securely sealed in a zip-loc bag.
I haven’t read this week’s MMP yet, so I hope everyone is doing well and having a great summer so far.
I don’t really feel any more married than I did before we took the plunge, but that’s a good thing. We have been living together for 5 years, now, and were pretty much married in all but name only. I’m a very happy faerie. I’m going to try to get a few pictures up on my blog and maybe a Picture Trail account soon.
Well, I’m not lying on my back with all six legs twitching. I opened up the windows, so I feel much better.
Some of my best friends are wasps. (WASPs )
I got an email from someone saying she wants to sublet my apartment. w00t! I feel better now. Now all I need are Chicago Apartment Finders and the Toronto US Consulate to get back to me.
Faerie, welcome back! Glad to hear your wedding and honeymoon went well. Looking forward to the pics.
But you’re a dog butler, not a bug. I always figured you were this:
or more prosaically, this:
NO. You’ve been huffing and I don’t reward such behavior. Also, I’ve seen more [fillin blank here] than most [sub]prostitutes[/sub] so I’m not all that interested.
(sorry)
hello to the newbies, sorry I forgot you earlier. I like Scrawl better than Scribbles but I’ll go with the flow.
I’m a WASP from way back. I blend in to most places…just like wallpaper, and then BAM! gotcha. I enjoy that.
<looks enviously at TheFaerie’s life> Yeah…I did something like that this week, sure I did. (glad it was so nice and that you had a great honeymoon–I cleaned toilets and the basement).
I have nothing else to say, but when did that ever shut me up?
Swampus–I think it’s you. Who else would start their job with a beer tsunami?
Yup, Lake Superior has waves. Big waves too, lol. The storms can be wicked. My Ma sent me a link a long time about that had really cool pictures from an ice storm. I should ask if she still has it. Those pictures were amazing…
Thanks for all the links, Meeks! I’ll take my time enjoying them and keeping track of who/what I like best. I already know I love the music (as well as everything else) from Monsoon Wedding, so that’s a good start. And your other link I’m saving for when Papa Tigs goes to bed, so he doesn’t come running in worried I’m stroking out as I choke with laughter.
Welcome back from the honeymoon, Wispy Winged One! And welcome to the MMP to all the other newbies. We’re getting lots of fresh meat this week. Bwahahaha…
Hey, it looked like it was going to rain outside and I wanted to make sure I’d brought my cell phone in from when I was out playing with the dogs! So I forgot I was holding it in my hand! So sue me. It seemed like a perfectly sensible question to me at the time. Ungrateful wretch of a daughter, grumble grumble…
Wow, you can spay wasps? You must use really, really teensy tiny instruments!
Can you all tell I have nothing of substance to contribute today? I took a nap, and now I’m 90% asleep but I have to stay awake while finishing up some more [del]mind-numbingly boring[/del] exciting and thrilling congressional [del]drivel[/del]important testimony. Envy me.
So, Hank, you’re sure that the e-mail wasn’t from your new roomie? (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
Hee, that was a funny e-mail, Ana. And yes, send the card. Welcome. Did you bring chocolate?
Yay for more video links! And, yes, that first one was very funny…I liked the talking dog at the end.
Congrats on the wedding and honeymoon, Faerie.
Hope the whole family is starting to feel better, Dotty.
I’m tired and have done all kinds of nothing tonight; well, responded to some e-mails and talked to a friend on the phone, oh and watched The Holiday, which is a cute movie.
Really need to get to bed…Hugs to all…I’ll catch up tomorrow.
GT
Anastasaeon has been a cool kid for a while, she’s just now making it here.
I got a few seconds into that clip and tommytoes came flooding back to me, and I can’t even remember when/where I saw it before.
I just came back from HP5, and just as the excitement came towards the end, I felt the ground shake and heard rain pounding the roof of the theater. Nice touch, added some ambience.
Also - today I got the e-mail from Amazon telling me my copy of HP7 is ready to ship.
Anywho, Wife and I drove through lightning and monsoon to get home, to find ONE brave cat staying in the living room through the thunder and lightning.
Don’t ask, you know who that was.
After we were home for a few minutes, Marty came popping his head out of the basement door. Just now Scarlett popped her head out, but there was only one cat out here for the big noise.
Killer Cuervo.
Welcome to the MMP, **Faerie **and Ana! Wow, I can barely keep up with all the new people this week.
Special1, I’m going to have to give up my late night drive-bys. I’m changing my schedule soon and need to get to bed earlier. It was fun while it lasted. Parting is such sweet sorrow. Alas, I think my 12:30 am creativity and motivation sessions might be gone forever. . . into the abyss. Woe is me.
Anyway, just wanted to say a fond farewell!
Of course, I’ll still be here during the early evenings, so you’re stuck with me, Mumpers.
On preview: Ana’s not new after all. So she can welcome me.
You know that if you ever have to find a home for that handsome orange boy, I will come get him. Orange cats have such personality!
Now I have that stupid “Wessonality” commercial going through my head.
Mr. SCL wants me to ride with him up to the river tomorrow. If I can find a swimsuit that I can squeeze into, I might do it.
I don’t know what is wrong with me; I am not eating that much but I am bloating up really badly. My feet are even swollen. Lack of medical insurance is a bitch.
bback from dinner at which the company was ever so much better than the food - got to catch up with a friend I hadn’t seen in years - and was shocked to learn that her granddaughter is turning 18 shortly and has enlisted in the Marines ! I remember when that kid was but an armful!
