A Murderously Fun MMP

I don’t think he will be, it’s just that I haven’t talked to him since early this year, at my request. I think it’s been long enough that just talking to him won’t depress me, and he’s one of those guys who had a previous (long-term) ex-girlfriend who he talked to maybe a handful of times a year. I wouldn’t mind staying on friendly terms, but I hate for this call to be for a favor.

Just got back from playing with two three week old Havanese puppies and a 10 week old Ragdoll kitten. I tried to smuggle the kitten out but I got caught. Oh well.

Did you at least take pictures, SCL?

I’m sorry, Hank, but the anecdote about the future roomie made me laugh out loud. Well…at least you have the option of staying where you already are…

Don’t sweat the trip to South Bend, LiLi. As someone said upthread, highways are much much easier to drive than cities. If you tell us what your route is, we can give you tips on what to watch out for, what to avoid, etc. (You might even want to start a thread on this.) Make sure you’re not stressing about how long the trip is; you’ll get there when you get there. Also, plan to be tired because it’s more stressful to travel to unknown places when you’re also getting used to driving.

I want dinner too, swampy. I just put potatoes on to boil for salad. Recipe to follow.

Oh…I was going to talk about drama…I was in bunches of plays, skits etc. as an undergrad and even in grad school. One quarter, as part of a seminar, we produced some scenes from Bertolt Brecht’s Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. One of my roommates and co-starred in a sketch. She played my SO. I had to cry, which I’d never done on stage. Fortunately, I had a towel in my hand, so I just laughed wildly into it and no one could tell the difference between that and tears. We used to walk to class together rehearsing our lines. It was really funny to see how she’d change her walk and voice while doing her lines. She was a pretty believable guy, even though she was a pretty girly girl IRL.

I’ve updated the MMP rotation to trade out BooFae and Sean. Also, I’ve signed up for September 17, since I’ll be back from vacation (Chicago with bunches of German high schoolers, FarAway Best Friend and her offspring) then. I’m assuming that someone else will have covered the DopeFest planned for September 7th; don’t know what kind of access I’ll have, though so I can’t volunteer for the 10th.

So has anyone else noticed that Sean doesn’t actually have a nickname?

Sorry about the sucky day, Puggy. Feel better soon, Nava. Good thoughts and hugs to everyone else that I’m missing.

My day was uncharacteristically good. I got some stuff done that I’d been meaning to get to for more than three months and found that something I thought was a big problem…isn’t! Yay!!!

I’ve decided to have some ravioli for dinner. I’ll report back soon.

Back later…

GT

 It’s too freakin humid!

I still think your highway driving will be just fine, Lissa. This coming from someone who’s done a **lot **of it.

Can I tell you all that I just saved $20-$25 on a haircut? I resent, no that’s RESENT having to spend that much money on a haircut anyway when all I want is a trim. My hair is two feet long and curly yes, but still all you’re doing is trimming it! So I go to the cheapest place possible, and they still charge me $18 these days plus a tip. And my SO gets his cut, with a professional old fashioned Italian barber, for $14. Plus tip. $14!!!

So I asked my SO to cut it. I cut my own bangs. The back is all the same length. I handed him a sewing ruler, that’s one with the adjustable marker, and said “I want 4” off but start with 3" and then work your way up."

It took him about 3.5 minutes and it looks great and it’s so much lighter and healthier. You know you have long hair though when you take off 4" and barely notice. And it’s not thick, so it’s easy.

I did offer to tip him $2 though. He threatened to take it all off unless I upped the ante to $5. I said “You’d kill me if I ever chopped my hair, so I have no fear” and called his bluff.

$14? For an old-fashioned barber, Meeks? Papa Tigs goes to an old-fashioned barber and pays $6 + tip! Plus also picking up on all the good neighborhood gossip, advice on what are the best places to go for various services (auto repair, crabcakes, etc.), and catch up on all the girlie magazines, and he only has to walk 1/2 a block each way in the process! I pay more, but I’m only paying $70 +tip for a cut and color these days, whereas when I used to go to my amazingly talented and wonderful hair stylist in downtown DC (who I still visit occasionally), a cut alone would cost me $55, and the cheapest color was about $120! It all depends on what kind of cut you’re getting, though, obviously.

Alice’s ex should be just fine about giving a reference. He’s a very nice guy, not a jerk at all; it wasn’t an ugly breakup, just an exceedingly sad one. So I’m sure he’ll say nice things about her. Especially since he lived with her so has some idea of what she’s like to share a house with (quiet and very easy to deal with, actually, for the most part). So here’s hoping she gets the place; it would be insanely convenient to where her aunt’s shop is, maybe three blocks away at most. Which even for her is easily walkable!

I’m telling myself to work, but it ain’t happening. And Swampy’s not around to kick my butt. Can someone else please do it for him? Because I really want to get most of this job done tonight so I don’t have to get up earlier than I want to tomorrow to get it finished! Staying up late is always easier than getting up early for me.

So now we’re Mumpers. I like it. It rhymes with humpers. No significance there. . . just thought I’d point it out. :stuck_out_tongue: Although it does remind me of mumps, which isn’t as pleasant.

swampy, I was going to say something about your lunch hours, but the thought made me blush, so you’re going to have to use your imagination. . . like you weren’t going to anyway.

Lili, wow, that is indeed quite a list of the places you’ve visited so far. They’re sure not the vacation capitals of the world. Hopefully, one of your friends will move to Hawaii or something.
**
puggie**, sorry it’s such a bad week. . . and it’s only Tuesday. I hope it gets better soon.
**
meeks**, I vote for the word contributing instead of mitigating in that article.
**
BooFae**, congrats on the tickets. But more importantly for not giving up and letting that girl have the last say. I’m glad it turned out well for you.

Queenie, good luck on the LSAT. . . and the motivation to study for it.
**
Haze**, about your new roommate, will she be able to remember to pay the rent and do the rest of the functions of being a good roommate. The e-mail story was kinda. . . odd.

gt, congrats on the good day. . . and for getting stuff done. . . and learning that stuff didn’t need doing. That’s always nice!
**
meeks**, I’ve been cutting my own hair so long now that I would definitely get sticker shock if I had to pay for it. Glad it came out well.

Did I kill the MMP?

Some videos:

Catfight The girl in the red is my namesake. (Yes, Meenakshi is my real name.) Just goes to show you that Indian guys are turned on by the same crap. Also, the other girl is Dimple Kapadia, the one I discussed in the last MMP. **This one is just for fun. **

This is the Meenakshi Temple in South India. This goddess is what I was named after.

Here is also Meenakshi & SriDevi. Meenakshi is in the blue in My heart beats for you, or Dhak dhak jiya kare. The choreography is awesome. I love Meenakshi’s hair pieces. Also, they are dancing to distract the guards so their lovers can sneak in.

This is Rekha in Not just my heart, or Dil Cheez Kya Hai performing Kathak. This is the dance I took for years and performed professionally. The wording is “Not just my heart, but my life I give to you/Just one time will you listen to my request.”

And since those were all somewhat old, here is Match your beat with mine, or Taal se Tal Mila, which is way more modern and has sexy ladies in white dresses dancing in the monsoon.

How would you do that?! The Mump has a thousand lives at least.

There was just like a whole bunch of time where there was no post.

I wanted to add; I was not named Meenakshi after the actress! Also not really after the Goddess. Meenakshi means “the girl with fish-shaped eyes”. Fish-shaped eyes - that is, large and oval - are beautiful in my culture.

And I just happen to have large, oval eyes.

I went out to the neighborhood concert. It was awesome. It was R&B with a pretty big band and a really big crowd and there was actual cheering at the end (usually the most you see is enthusiastic applause). They did a lot of classic numbers (Natural Woman, Respect, etc.). But also some I didn’t know. Really good musicians obviously having fun - just what I needed. They even played an extra 20 minutes or so.

I’ve only watched one of the videos so far, but I’ll get to all of them eventually. Thanks for sharing, Meeks.

I’m pretty tired, so I’m thinking I’ll crawl into bed, read for a while and hope to fall asleep early.

Is it Friday yet?

GT

Big brother is gone. Class is over–I spent it looking for resources for my prospectus that’s due in a few weeks. I found 4 at my local library, so that’s good.

Off to bed soon. Work in am.

Yep, it went fine; he’ll be a reference, no problem. And he was happy to hear I’m doing okay. Things are pretty much the same for him. So that’s done, anyway. I haven’t talked to him because it hurt too much at first; now, not so bad, though I’m not going to be calling him every day or anything. Once in a while, though, is a possibility. It was a very civil, if painful, breakup.

MT, don’t make me get in the car and come back up there and kick your butt to get you to work! g

Awwww…poor baby.

You = beach spoiled.

Pie now please thank you very much

Well, admittedly I don’t get out there often. Where I live looks like this. I’m an hour or so from the beach.

I’m heading up to the Villa in a few weeks though to take nephew and his GF. And I need to see some ocean before I snap.

I’m not working on pie until September. I’m making more brownies this evening, though. You like brownies, right?

**Roo **- thanks for the well-wishes. I’ve been doing logic problems between Doping, baking, proofreading husband’s work, and gardening (well, *attempts *at gardening, anyways). My study method usually involves heavy puttering, although I’ll sit a dozen or so mock tests between now and test day.

Brownies? ears perk up
I spent a little time in Arizona and loved it. Heat, yes. But dry heat. hides from beatings

She Who Must Be Obeyed–there’s some green in that photo… I now have a different vision of Malibu (my original one comes from a car and Malibu Barbie).
I need to get ready for tomorrow.

MBG-sorry I don’t have the link, but go check out the bus thread in MPSIMS.

Now I have the link: forpassengersafetystaybehindthewhiteline

Unfortunately Attack’s Husband’s fiancee will be moving from Hawaii! Oh, well. I’ve been to the Doctor Pepper Museum and I’ve seen signs that say “Hooray for the Red, Pork and Blue!” What could possibly be lacking in my cultural experiences?
Thanks for the reassurances, everyone. Maybe I will start a thread about it. Mum just had me terrified, after I was so sure it wouldn’t be a huge deal. I think they both just hate and loathe highway driving.

Where is my husband #1? He isn’t at home. Who’s hiding him?

How did you not die from the cuteness? That’s too much cute in one place. I would have squeed myself silly.

LiLi, I think you’ll be fine. Seven hours really isn’t that much driving. Take lots of breaks and don’t try to do it all at once–that’s my advice. You can come visit me sometime–I live in a cool place. It’s not a big city, but there’s lots of fun things to do.

gt, the concert sounds like fun! It’s a nice way to spend an evening. I used to go to concerts a lot, but I’ve been kind of lazy this summer, so I haven’t been getting my RDA of live music. I should fix that.

Mama Tigs, get to work! Don’t make me come over their and kick your butt!

rosie, it’s humid here, too. It’s like living in a steam room. I don’t mind heat, but I don’t like humid.

swampy, I had a turkey sandwich for lunch. What can I say–I’m a lunch underachiever!

My TV is broken. I get a lot more done when I can’t get distracted by CSI, but I kind of miss it. Should I get another one, or should I go TV-free?

dotty, I hope you all feel better! It’s not good when the whole family is sick-there’s nobody left to take care of you.

ahem

I should get to bed. I need more sleep, apparently.
