For various reasons, people often end up watching certain movies over and over again. I’m gonna give you the ones I’ve watched the most, please reply with your own!
JFK
I recorded this film from the TV many years ago, and I’ve seen it eight times altogether.
So, I married an axemurderer
An instant classic with Mike Myers. Seen it at least ten times.
Wizard of Oz (of course)
Ghost Breakers (a dismal little Bowery Boys comedy that, for some reason, I seemed to have caught about a dozen times on TV).
Plan 9 from Outer Space
Singin’ in the Rain (the greatest ever)
Citizen Kane
The Wrong Trousers
A Close Shave
I have watched the original Star Wars trilogy literally hundreds, if not thousands of times. Anyone who lives in the UK will know how they were always on over Christmas, every year without fail. We taped them all and watched them whenever we could. I love sci fi and these are some of the best.
The Matrix. I have seen this one dozens of times, especially the second half cause I love to watch the scene in the dojo. I love it and it is the best film ever made [sub]Anyone who disagrees is just wrong, period[/sub] Aliens special edition. Love that film. the rest are ok. True Lies, an Arnie film. It is, unintentionally I think, quite funny in places (I mean, Arnie, as a spy) and I just like action films.
All these are films I have seen a few dozens times. I tend to watch stuff I have seen before while I am doing something else (such as ironing or something) cause then you don’t have to keep your eyes on the film, you can just look up when it reaches a good bit.
I own three different versions of Army of Darkness, and have watched the entire Evil Dead trilogy more times than could be imagined.
For a period when our cable was out, just to have things on, I believe I watched South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut about one hundred times in two weeks.
Dirty Work is another favorite of mine.
Lake Placid and Deep Blue Sea are two other good clean fun movies.
Unfortunately, I keep watching the [B[Doom Generation**, although each time I just want to gouge my eyes out with a fork (but keep them in for all the sex).
Ninja Scroll, Akira, Suicide Kings, Dark City, the Dark Crystal, the Professional…I think I’ll just leave it there.
Toy Story. I saw that movie six times in December of 1995. But that’s because I often went to work with my mom during Christmas Break and where she work had a movie theater, and that movie was the only good one showing (not that I was complaining–I love that movie). I’ve seen it many more times since then, and I’ve had the DVD for about a year now (the second movie, too).
Beetlejuice is another one I’ve seen a million times. I probably saw it twenty times during 1989 alone, having my parents rent it for me over and over and over again (I was only seven).
Another vote for the Evil Dead trilogy. I can’t begin to think how many times I’ve watched that.
Same thing with Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Life of Brian. Both have been watched too many times for me to count.
And The Godfather. Damn I love this movie. Recently bought the DVD boxset of the trilogy and it took me six hours to watch the first movie. I tried watching it with Francis Ford Coppola’s commentary, but after each scene I’d skip back and watch it without the commentary. I love the movie so much, Coppola was bugging me with all the talking cuz I wanted to see the movie. I know how stupid that sounds - why didn’t I just watch the movie then? Well, I’d seen the film countless times and wanted to hear what Coppola had to say. But as the scenes progressed I found myself torn between listening to Coppola and watching the film, so I did both.
Dammit, ElvisRojo, stop rifling through my video collection.
As for myself, the movie I’ve seen more than any other, even more than Star Wars, is Ghostbusters. I watch Kenneth Brannagh’s Henry V at least once a month.
I’ve also started buying MST3K movies on video, so I guess Manos: The Hands of Fate, The Wild World of Batwoman, and The Atomic Brain all technically belong on this list.
I like your taste…I watch that one a lot. In fact, I ought to watch it sometime soon…
And I’ve seen Branagh’s Hamlet maybe ten or twelve times. I mean, I’ve seen it twice in one day.
And yeah, I’ve seen the Star Wars movies countless times, and some of the Star Trek movies (i.e. the ones that don’t suck). Same goes for Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and The Wizard of Oz…and lots of MST3K episodes, if those count.
I can think of many movies that I’ve seen again and again, but as for marathon-watching, the only one I can think of is “Galaxy Quest”.
I wasn’t at all interested in the movie from the previews and vowed not to see it, but this spring a (trusted) friend told me I had to see it and got me hooked. I now feel the need to pay the suggestion forward to anyone who hasn’t seen it. (I still haven’t returned it to Blockbuster after 8 months)
My roommate usually leaves a video on repeat while sleeping and his most common two are “The Last Crusade” and “My Fellow Americans”
Most teen flicks from the 80s I’ve seen over and over:
Back to the Future
Sixteen Candles
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Stand By Me
…and most other films of that genre. I loved them.
I’ve seen American Pie several times, along with Threesome, Detroit Rock City, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile. The list could go on and on, but I’ll spare you. Those are just some of my favorites.
While reading your answers I realized I had completely forgotten about the cartoons I watch with my kids:
The Lion King
Aladdin
Toy Story
Toy Story 2
Bugs Life
All of these are brilliant movies. Unfortunately, Antz is very disliked by my children, and therefore it can’t be included in this list, although it’s a brilliant, brilliant movie!
I too have seen Star Wars hundreds of times. Back in the early 80s my dad got hold of a bootleg videotape of it and I watched it constantly. Between that and the “story of Star Wars” LP I can do all the dialogue from rote memory.
I also had bootlegs of Empire, Jedi, E.T., and Raiders of the Lost Ark, but of those I probably watched Raiders the most.
I have a bunch of movies that I really really like and watch as often as I can.
Terminator and T2, I can watch those anytime.
Groundhog Day, I don’t know why I just like the idea
Matrix
Shawshanck(sp) Redemption
True Lies
Monty Python - Holy Grail and Life of Brian
Godfather
Pulp Fiction
Its a Wonderful Life
Saving Private Ryan
Apocalypse Now
Das Boot
Reservoir Dogs
Aliens
and the list can go on. I love
