A note to the straight supremacists and those verbally beating the tar out of them

You lying sack of shit! On this very page he calls homosexuality a sin.
On the last page he made what I sincerely hope is the most vile and disgusting comment of his life when he called thevictims of gay-bashing “instigators”. The hateful attitude that you two espouse is what “instigates” gay-bashing.

A quibble, Guin

The quote isn’t “Judge not lest ye be judged.”, it’s “Judge Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.”

In other words, we’re not being told not to judge, we’re being told not to be hypocrites, or being told “Don’t dish it out if you can’t take it.”

I hate that mistake, but please don’t think that I disagree with you on the substance of your post. Just on that misquote.

Jersey Diamond, Joe_Cool, could you two please do me a favor?

Think for a moment about how it feels when you look into each others eyes, when you hold hands, when you see each other smile. Think about the love which fills your hearts, and the feeling that this moment is absolutely perfect, that there is not, could never be anyone else in the world for you (Christ aside, of course).

Now, imagine how it feels to be told that this feeling is sinful, is against God’s commandments, and that it can never be right. That your desire to share each other’s hearts, each other’s lives is against God. I know. I’m citing emotion; you’re citing the Bible. Nevertheless, that is why I must stand on my side of this debate.

Regretfully,
CJ

I’d like to thank the Holy Roller contingent for reminding me why I’m an Atheist. From that perspective, the past week or so in The Pit has been quite satisfying.

However, a couple of you are so outspoken, you’ve almost pushed me to the point of questioning my heterosexuality in a desperate attempt to distance myself still further from your kind. Were it not for the existence of Shania Twain, I’d already be taking dancing lessons and modernizing my pathetic wardrobe.

Seriously, why does this have to be such a polarized issue? Is your determination that “homosexual = bad” derived solely from the Bible, or is there something else about the concept of homosexuality that bugs you? And if your condemnation IS solely Biblical in nature, is someone else’s homosexuality going to prevent you from going to your ‘great reward’ when you croak?

I understand (to some degree) that it’s your job to ‘spread the word’; but do you really think you’re winning anyone over to your god by being openly adversarial? In this day and age, it’ll be a rare case who hasn’t heard your argument already, and the scripture alone obviously wasn’t enough to sway them from the path you consider ‘evil’.

Wouldn’t you agree that outright hostility might tend to make your intended converts less likely to agree with you?

Esprix:

By all means defend yourself. Just remember that as much as homosexuality is a part of you and hearing that it is negative offends you, so does saying that believing that homosexuality is sinful may hurt them.

Also, I really do wish that those who trot out the “abomination” and “unnatural” labels would cease to do so. A Biblical literalist should (unless they’re interpreting the Bible in some very bizarre manner) say that lying is just as much a sin as homosexuality, and I haven’t heard too many Biblical literalists about saying that lying is an unnatural abomination.

lel, neither have I - but funny, they keep using those words at me. They’re the ones you ought to ask, not me.
