Sunday was a gorgeous fall day – sunny and breezy. I turned the furnace on, just because I could. I set it on 65˚F, so it only stayed on until the sun came up. This time of year, I can smell the coffee roasting in the morning at the café down the street. Sometimes it mixes with the garlic for a particularly pungent aroma. But it all smells like fall to me.
The neighbors have been putting up Halloween decorations so there are witches and ghosts and goblins everywhere, along with tombstones and spider webs. It looks like everyone is going all out this year. I guess all of the babies are old enough to trick or treat now, or at least appreciate the decorations.
The cats have recently discovered my lap, and have been splitting their time between my lap and the bed. Even Keisha, who is normally standoffish, has been getting lap time, purring like a rusty motor boat. She’s never had an audible purr before, my brawny Mike Tyson kitty with the itty-bitty Miaow.
So I spent the day enjoying the cats, the sunshine, and my knitting. I went for a walk in the afternoon to crunch through the leaves and enjoy the last of the roses. The golden retriever puppy down the street is half-grown now, and as friendly as her predecessor.
I have a purring cat in my lap, I officially start my new job in two weeks, I have a tall stack of books to read, and a pile of wonderful yarn to knit up. Life is good.
Morning again all! I used to love Sundays until I moved here and they became the first day of the working week - now they have about as much appeal as Mondays used to have! That said, Saturdays are now doubly nice! Nice OP, Jah. It’s always nice to hear when someone’s life is just going so nicely!
Noor is asleep and I am taking a break from my last-minute “my parents are arriving in 11 hours” panic house-cleaning mode! I think I have a headache!
ETA: Prayers headed out for VWife’s bionic knee today!
Cats are cute. Stupid little fuzzballs Especially kittens.
Ours has decided that I am
The Purveyor of Tuna – since I feed him his crushed medicine in a spoonful of tuna every morning.
The Magic Food Elevator – his food is up on the counter where the dogs can’t reach it. Thing is, he’s still too small to jump up all the way from the floor to the counter. So I’ve set a chair beside the counter for him to use. Thing is, he’ll get up on the chair, and instead of jumping from there to the counter (which he should be fully capable of doing) he’ll look at me and meow his fool head off until I get disgusted and pick him up by the scruff and literally throw him onto his food bowl
Silly kitten…
**Roo **seems to be AWOL – hope you’re feeling better, Roo!
Dotty, see, I’ve always known Sunday is the Mid-Eastern Monday. Us desert denizens get to do Monday twice a week
**SCL **-- good luck on your interview! Appendages crossed.
Haze, you cheated! It was still Sunday for you when you posted!!
This post brought to you by your favorite brand of soap – keeping my post clean for probably the last time this week
Morning all! I love Sundays too, it’s the only day of the week I can actually plan to do nothing at all. Of course, I never spend it doing nothing, there’s always something that requires attention but every now and then, I can declare it an official jammies day - no going outside, no need to get dressed. So I can wear my jammies all day, lay on the sofa with a cat or two for company and read a good book. Or a bad book. Or even just a mediocre book.
Yesterday was one of those busy Sundays though. I took my doting parent to London to see the First Emperor exhibition inside the modified Reading Room at the British Museum. It was a fascinating exhibition and as we were early getting there, we had time for a quick look around some other parts of the museum beforehand. We had to book tickets for the exhibition so we knew we had to be there at 2.50pm ready to go in.
We’d decided to spend the night in London so on Sunday morning mum was awake at 6am and raring to go…err…where? She had to wait until after breakfast to go exploring so we got the tube to Covent Garden and had to find somewhere for coffee first because of course we were way to early for the market to be open. That’s typical of my mother though…bless 'er.
After we got back to hers in the afternoon, I still had to drive back home and realised it would be the last time I could do the trip in daylight as we put our clocks back next weekend so it will be getting dark by the time I usually leave her place. Winter’s coming!
Yesterday was a beautiful day here. We borrowed my parents’ convertible and went on a 4 hour scenic drive involving lunch at a really bizarre restaurant at Station Square. Our waitress reminded me of Paula Poundstone and wouldn’t leave us alone. She kept commenting about personal things, like what a cute couple we made, etc. I thought she was trying to suck up for a bigger tip, but she neglected her ‘duties’ in order to chat. ::sigh:: Anyways, the drive was nice and today I am not a lobstermobster, but I do have a lobsterface.
Congrats on the job Jahdra, and that was a helluva Sunday. I like lazy days like that.
Today I’m taking **welbywife ** to a knee doctor, she’s been having a lot of pain and her knee finally decided to lock up and stop working last Wednesday. We’ve had the MRI, we’ve had the doc visits, and today they’re gonna tell us what’s wrong and what needs fixing.
My weekend was kinda like Jahdra’s, without the kitties, because kitties are evil. I did a lot of nothing, followed by a little more nothing. Then I made the kids amke food for the wife. Then I did a lot more nothing. It was nice.
I wish I could have a kitty, but I don’t dare even ask if it’d be possible for a few more months yet, since pets are supposed to be a no-no here (though I have yet to sign anything legal or anything about it, I don’t want to piss off my nice landlords or my invisible roommate). I’m hoping that once I have a good track record of taking care of the place and paying rent on time and being an all-around good tenant maybe they might let me have a kitty.
I used to be owned by a big 'ol boy cat with the weeniest meow you ever heard from a cat that size. It was funny.
I always have the best of intentions on Sundays - I plan to be productive. I envision myself doing these productive things. But I always end up vegging around the house - in bed, in the living room watching TV, or in here (here being this room, not the MMP) wasting time when I could be at least doing something productively chorus relalted. And always the cat is either on my shoulder (she doesn’t do laps unles I am in bed) or nearby watching me intently
No cats here, but snuggling up with a sweet puppy can be just as nice! Or a couple of them, even. I took a nice nap yesterday with two of my three. The third one can’t jump up on the bed anymore. On Saturday we all went to the dog park. It was a beautiful day, and there were lots of dogs and people. There were two unrelated 7-month old Great Dane puppies, they were hilarious! My little 10-lb Bichon told them what for, too! He has a Napolean complex…
Yesterday was football, napping and crabcakes for dinner. Yum!
Congrats on the job, Jah, and good luck to Bbbobbio and VWife.
Great OP, Jah, and kudos on returning to the world of gainful employment! I do like fall. It’s nice out, the leaves crunch underfoot, and walking through the neighbourhood features the mingled smell of said leaves and woodsmoke. My only problem with fall is that it is the harbinger of winter, and winter and I have irreconcilable differences.
I can’t say I had the perfect Sunday, but it was a gorgeous day, with highs reaching around 23°C (~73F), which is only a degree or two cooler than it’s going to be today, so an awesome day to be out and about if you needed – or even just wanted – to be. I was out a few times myself in just jeans and a T-Shirt, that’s just how nice it was. It’s just as nice, if not a touch nicer today too, and once again I’m in short sleeves. Probably the last time this year I’ll be able to do that, so I’m trying to make the most of it, insofar as I can while at work. I left my jacket at home (even if the morning was just that side of needing long sleeves) and I am unencumbered by an umbrella (I had to carry one around all last week with all the gloom in the forecast, and it’s supposed to rain the next couple of days, too) so I can enjoy as much of the day as I can.
On the feline front, Tilly, our youngest (~4 yrs) has been antagonizing Patches, our eldest (~12 yrs) to the extent that Patches is now afraid of her and will try to avoid her whenever possible. She’s even been requiring an escort to the kitchen (where the cat dishes are) to eat and drink because she doesn’t want to run afoul of Little Miss Instigator. I’ve done what I could to admonish Tilly whenever I’ve seen her try and start something, and it’s had some long term effect in that she doesn’t try as often (as least not when we’re paying attention) but she’s still being a bitch sometimes. She’s ordinarily an extremely affectionate, playful kitty – still is, really, except when it comes to Patches.
Welby - Kitties are not evil. Any further assertions to that effect and I will summon one to consume your soul.
I love the light in fall. The clear, soft sunlight–it’s shining now and leaves are falling. I couldn’t live anywhere that didn’t have fall. I went for a bike ride yesterday–lovely.
Bon chance, SCL–you’ll knock 'em dead!
VunderWife–best of luck to you. Follow instructions and all should be well.
I have to sign #1 son up for driving lessons today. I am not all  about it. I am looking forward to another driver in the family–someone else to run my errands for me. <rubs hands in glee>
And we FINALLY have health insurance! Yahoo! Am off to the pharmacy to get my Rx filled-now it won’t cost $100. <big sigh of relief here>
Fall is my favourite time of year. The leaves are all coming down right now, and it smells like earth and dead leaves and damp, with bits of woodsmoke. It’s great. Except that, unlike Mork, I don’t approve of 25C in October. Which is what today is supposed to be. Get back to real autumn temperatures, dammit!
I even like the cold, gray, rainy days, because the bright red and yellow leaves are so pretty in the gloom.
Great OP, Jah. I’ve also been checking out our neighbors’ Halloween decorations as they’ve been going up; since we’re new to the neighborhood, it’s good to know we’ve moved to an area where people at least seem to celebrate Halloween. It definitely makes morning walks with the dog more entertaining.
I’m a little bummed this morning.
My SO and I are doing a long engagement, and we’ve been engaged for a year so far, with two to go. Every time I see that one of my friends from college is already married, I get a little sad for myself. I know it’s far off, but I still feel dejected that nobody in my family is all that interested in the fact that I’m getting married. It makes me feel unimportant and unloved, and reassurances from my SO that people will be more interested when the time gets closer just doesn’t make me feel better because I’m still insignificant and unimportant right now.
