A Perfect Sunday - An Early MMP

Cookies are baked. I got all creative and tossed some punkin’ pie spice into the cookie dough - yum! Navy bean soup is simmering - yum! Laundry is all done and folded - yay! The sun came out and it’s lovely cool - Yay!

Yanno, if you lived near me, you could come over for cookies and fresh milk. Oh well, your loss…

And, **swampy ** - :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: etc.

Drive-by post - Cloud Maiden and I are hosting a Halloween party today, so it’s been a flurry of cleaning and preparation. Will post all about it tomorrow.

:: blows kisses to all ::

My brother and niece will be here in about 1/2 an hour. Help!!! OK…it’s not too bad, but I really wanted to clean more than I’ll have time for.

GT

A fresh, warm cookie sounds wonderful right now. You European MMPers just don’t understand desserts-nope, not even the Brits.

Chocolate cookies, when made properly are food of the gods.

I am DONE with my grad school homework. Turned out to not be as bad as I thought (not that it was great or anything).

I plan on tons of yard work tomorrow–winterizing the garden. And making #2 son’s Halloween costume–his is easy this year: a computer nerd. We will also get our pumpkins.
Another week has flown by. No wonder I’m old-time keeps going by!

Hey, Bobo! I gots a question for you, since you’re a hunter and all.

How soon after killing your game do you have to get it butchered and on ice? What provoked this question was seeing a deer dead on the side of the road - if you didn’t see when it got hit, can you look at the carcass and tell whether the meat would be good or not?

I’m not asking this as a potential consumer, since I’m none too fond of venison. I just wondered…

And if any of you were wondering, the bean soup was yummy. Lots leftover for tomorrow.

You want to clean it ASAP, innards do bad things to the meat, and get the meat cooled down soon after. Usually, just like beef, you hang it for a few days to allow the meat to age a bit. Helps the flavor and frightens the neighbors.

The problem with roadkill, I would guess, is that the impact would be more likely to mush up the innards and possibly taint the good bits. If you get to it pretty quick you could probably get much of the good stuff off and be ok. A few hours later and you could still carve away the stuff farthest from the gut, maybe overnight if it’s cold out.

I’m not sure I could tell if it’s still good. I’m a city boy and don’t really poke around dead things very often.

Just got done assembling a new futon (this one). It’s rather nice, and better than our old one (which broke in several places; cheap crap) being higher and with a thicker, bouncier cushion that seems like it will be less prone to flattening as our old one did (much in the way of pillows after a while).

It’s a pain in the ass to switch back from bed to couch when the mattress is on it though.

And I hurt my hand.

Ow.

A futon would complete things over here. I am sitting here, sipping sambuca and watching LOTR. I was going to watch Little Miss Sunshine, but I changed my mind.

Life is very good at present. I wish I had a honey to schnuggle with and share the sambuca, but this is good on its own.

I especially like my version of the LOTR-I skip over the parts I don’t care for. Much easier and more fun than the original (I’ve got the EEs)

home from dinner with BFF
tired and tipsy
off to sleep
that is all

can’t relax - tenant is having a party and the bass on the stereo is turned up to eleven - the whole house is vibrating. But it’s only 9:30 and I don’t want to be the crotchety “geroffamylawn” kind of landlord and he hardly ever has parties as it is - the noisiest he’s been is a lot of shouting at the TV during football games. If the house is still shaking after 11 hoever, i am going to ask him to back the bass off a tad. For now, I’ll put in some earplugs and turn my TV up to 12

Well, the Snakes lost tonight, damnit. However, Mr. SCL’s lasagna for the visiting team was a huge hit - the guys were coming back for seconds!

The Snakes wore pink and white jerseys this weekend and held an auction tonight, with the proceeds going to a local breast cancer center. One of the jerseys went for $3700. I think that is a record for a single jersey at a Snakes auction. A friend of mine really wanted that jersey - they player’s last name is the same as her first name - but didn’t get it. She gave up at $2000, but her husband kept bidding up to $3600. Wow. Just wow. Another went for $1750. As much as I love my game-worn jerseys (I have 8) I’ve never paid over $400 for one. I can’t imagine spending that much.

I am taking cole slaw to the meet & greet tomorrow. Do I want to make it tonight or in the morning? I think in the morning. To quote our Swampy: I is tahred.

anyrose - I hate that. I don’t have tenants, but neighbors with teenagers can be pretty loud. Even when I was a kid throwing parties when my folks were out of town I really didn’t like loud music. Parties are for flirting, not screaming in a girls face because it’s too loud to communicate.

I’ve always been an surly old curmudgeon, I guess.

Aww FCM, the puppy and kitty jars are so cute! Sorry that some of them were broken; have you been able to figure out what’s causing that to happen? Hah, I like your suggestion that the politicians stick their tongues out during the “disclaimer” part of their ads. You’re correct, if you have no party affiliation, you can’t vote in a primary, at least in MD. I think some states do allow independants/no party affiliates to vote in primaries, though.

Hope that Rosie’s tenant tuned down the sound last night! Maybe it was a Halloween party?

I fixed chili in my crock pot yesterday - it turned out terrific!! I used ground turkey, a tex-mex chili seasoning mix, a can of tomatoes with green chilies, pinto beans and two onions. We served it with rice and topped it with shredded colby/jack cheese, with corn muffins on the side. I made a big enough batch that there are plenty of leftovers. Boy was it good, and now that the weather is turning cooler, there will be more batches of chili as well as bean soup and beef stew. YUM! I have to admit that I was very surprised - I could not tell it was ground turkey!

I’m up early, caffeinated and watching the local news. My Sunday paper hasn’t gotten here just yet, so I’m surfing the net a bit. Sounds like today is going to be very nice again. The temps have really cooled off at night now, which makes for excellent sleeping weather.

Yeah, I never understood music so loud it scrambles your internal organs. The one and only frat party I attended eons ago was like that, with stink bombs thrown in… in January… in Maryland… Sure hope **rosie ** didn’t have to be all bad-ass. In her pics she always looks too cute and happy and adorable to be able to pull off the get-off-my-lawn persona. I guess we’ll find out if her next post is from jail.

**tarra ** - I’m guessing the tail-cracking is because I didn’t work the clay well enough into a homogenous unit before rolling out the skinny whips. The parts that were pretty firmly pressed into the bodies didn’t crack, but when I tried to transition away, there were some issues. Obviously not in all cases, but still. I need to be more patient and less rushed. A good life lesson all around, don’t you think?

It’s a very chilly and moon-lit morning, and I’m up thanks to Scruffy. But that’s OK - if I slept in today, it would have made tomorrow all the more difficult at 4:45AM. So the dogs have been out, all critters got fresh kibble, and her majesty Miss Brandy has yet to move her feline ass out of the afghan nest on the recliner. That’s Sunday morning at my house.

We’re going down to the boat today to check things out. Since the small ports forward were left open, I’m expecting the mattress in the v-berth to be wet and possibly stained at little. But it’s supposed to be precip-free this week, so we might be able to pop the overhead hatches and let it all dry out. Still, it won’t be long before we’re pouring the pink anti-freeze into all the water lines and securing her for the winter. Depends on how quickly it gets cold - I suppose in theory we could be boating into December.

Some of our afghans will probably be tossed into the washer today also. One in particular, FCD said, is “doggy” - not the scent I want wrapped around me when I get a chill. Since the washer and dryer are pretty big, I think I can do 2 at once, except for the big blue one - it’s queen size and a heavy cable/popcorn stitch pattern. It’s a load unto itself. And, naturally, Bernie’s 2 afghans (don’t snicker - your dogs have their own blankies, don’t they?) and Scruffy’s little one will go in as a unit. I’m seeing at least 3 loads today. Oh yeah, good times!

Speaking of Scruffy, when she’s all shaved, I think her wiener dog DNA is apparent. Her snout is pretty long, as is her body. Of course, the fluffy poodle ears betray the other half of her parentage. And her constant presence about my ankles betrays her needy, clingy nature. But she’s sooooooo cuuuuuuuute!!

Anyway, I’m caffeinating. Somewhere along the line, I’ll get the MMP ready for tomorrow. All I need to do is to remember to post it before I go out the door. What are the odds??

Happy Sunday, all!

Things to do on Sunday when it’s raining…

Put colour on my hair 'cos it’s in need.
Bake chocolate cake.
Make crock pot of soup.
Find a good book to read.
Cuddle cats.

I really can’t think of anything else worth doing today - I was going to do some work in the garden and cut down some more of those brambles but it’s raining too hard for that.

I’ll settle for another cuppa just now.

I have someone else to do that
meh - now carrot cake…
…maybe, if I owned a crock pot
nah, I’d rather sleep
oh, absolutely. in any weather. at any time of day. (sometimes even when they don;t want to)
so it turns out it wasn’t Tenant - it was a neighbor whose back yard meets mine. And it was a Hallowe’en party. I could see the orange lights from my kitchen window. They must have been out in the back yard (I coiuldn’t discern any people shaped shapes, but the speakers were most definitely outside) Fortunately, promptly at 11:pm they either turned the stereo down to under 6, or brought the whole shindin into their house because it got quiet enough to relax. Twice, tho, while they were still outside, I saw an extremely bright flash of light and immediately after heard a loud quick pop and I’m thinking “oh, no. gun shot” but since the party kept going, it must have been something else - like maybe the speakers blew a gasket or something.
I am only awake right now because my furry alarm clock would not let me sleep. That, and I had to, um, “recycle” some stuff. I am going back to sleep now.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! I’m up and caffienating. I had a really good time last night. I drank a buncha beerverages and am not hungover! Maybe I’m finally immune to beer.

Anyways, I allowed myself a few hours sleep last night so’s I could function for a while today. We’re goin’ up to friends’ house in the metropolis that is Parrott, GA to hang out for a while. We are bein’ heathens and skippin’ churchification to do this. I plan to be home by mid-afternoon so’s I can sleep a while and stay up tonight. I plan on cleanin’ up da cave tonight cause it needs a good general clean up. I figure if Ima stay up, 'tis a good time to do so. Course I may pop in from time to time just to say howdy.

Y’all be good now!

Good morning! I haven’t quite caught up, but I wanted to say thank you for all the colorful birthday wishes! And Congrats on the job!!!
I had a wonderful birthday. Friday I went shopping, and then went to the spa. OMG, everyone should have a full body massage at least once in their life. Aromatherapy, hot stones - the works! It was fabulous! Then we had dinner at Pappasito’s - a Mexican restaurant. I had two Horny Toads! A specialty margarita. Yum! And I ate shrimp embrochette. And they sang happy birthday to me and brought out a brownie sundae thing! So much fun!

The birthday continued on Saturday when we hit the 50% off sale at Penney’s - we had $45 worth of coupons, too! So for about $150 - we got $350 worth of stuff. Yay! Then I went to Big Lots and spent $100 on various stuff - they were having a store closing sale, and everything was 20% off.

Well, off to make breakfast. Have a great day all!

Morning, everyone! I’m up, eating breakfast, and getting ready for church. Mr. Lissar just told me (without opening his eyes :D) that he’ll go to evening Mass at the cathedral. That means I can be laszy and use his transit pass to get to church. It’s only about fourteen blocks, but that fourteen blocks is gradually getting longer as I get rounder.
I like really loud music, but only for dancing. And I don’t play it really loud at home.
It’s perfectly beautiful fall day. Which means Mork will complain about the temperature.

I only like MY loud music, at certain times (when I have tons of energy and am cleaning the house) or when I’m home alone.

I don’t like parties with loud music and I don’t like concerts (I don’t understand concerts. You stand and watch someone play. Most times you can’t hear them because you’re too far away or the people around you are talking. For this I pay over $20? No, I don’t).

Off to do stuff. yard work and costume and pumpkins. It’s nice to not have to do anything today.
