After reading the article, I was reminded of a quote from Schlock Mercenary

He danced. Trump read the names of dead children, and then he fucking did a little dance.
Him and his supporters are sick pig fuckers that dance on the graves of dead children. Can’t wait to see how low they’ll sink next.
I mean, this (from 2016) wasn’t hyperbole:
I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK?
Yet 69-million voters saw nothing wrong with that, and then after four years’ experience with his… administration, 74-million. 
And someone in the venue played music for him to dance to.
I realize that “the cruelty is the point” has become a familiar descriptor for Republicans in the Trump era, but sometimes it seems inadequate. Is it that they’re determined to prove Hillary’s adjective—deplorable—correct?
Is it that they have no empathy whatsoever? Nobody had the common sense to think
“Hey, maybe doing a little dance at the NRA convention after reading the names of DEAD CHILDREN who were gunned down just days before… maybe that would be in bad taste”. Did they not think? Are they that lacking in brains and/or empathy? Did they not for a moment get how that would look?
Alternatively, are they just that keen to “own the libs”? Did they actually give it some thought, and decided that it was worth it, just to troll people with what assholes they are, and how they can get away with anything - even mocking dead children?
Either is a pretty nasty look.
This option seems most likely to me.
The high the right is on, now, is:

It’s brain-damaged-toddler-think. But it’s selling really well. They really think the road to happiness is being as despicable as possible and ‘getting away with it.’

They don’t care how it would look. That’s not the point. It will get the news coverage. That is the point. Those who are in favor of Trump don’t care about the kids in Uvalde. But, they do have to be reminded from time to time that Trump is still capable of pissing-off the libs.

I’ve seen the video of him reading the names, and I’ve seen the video of him dancing. Just for my own understanding of context, how much time passed between the two?
I mean, I’m not defending the dancing at all; I’m just trying to calculate exactly how tasteless this was. “Read the names and then danced” is horrific; “read the names, babbled incoherently for another 15 minutes and then danced” is marginally less so.

My understanding it’s the latter. After reading the names, he made a speech covering the usual NRA ideas about arming teachers, armed guards, and whatnot, and then went into his usual thing about the stolen election. After he was done, he did the dance. You wouldn’t know this from watching many of the videos on line, which leave out the speech.
I wouldn’t want them to make a practice of it, but it’s nice to see the left playing the “context? what’s that?” game.
Tbf the right would have literally edited the two together and then flooded social media with the doctored video. As they’ve done with multiple Biden and Pelosi videos already.
No it isn’t. Or do you want to have to distrust all the media all the time, just to score a useless point against a sociopath?
So non-right media can say “Yes, we ignored context to rile people up, but at least we’re not as bad as them.” What an ambition.
