“All big-firm lawyers have told me that their firms won’t let them do it,” Dershowitz said in an interview. “The firms won’t let them go near any case involving Trump. These are firms that want to continue to have clients, and they know that if they represent Donald Trump, they’ll lose a lot of clients.”
Dershowitz spoke from experience.
After he represented Trump in his Senate impeachment trial following the deadly January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, Dershowitz said he lost job opportunities and many of his speaking engagements.
Like we keep hammering home, everything CFSG touches turns to shit.
Nooo, it’s all cancel culture! Now even the lawyers of America are in it and cancel Trump!
Isn’t the Orange One also known for not paying people who have done work for him? If so, then all the more enjoyable it is watching him not be able to get new representation. Hey, even morally bankrupt lawyers who represent scum won’t take on a client who won’t pay.
I have heard that Trump takes the position that the mere act of serving Trump is much more valuable to person serving him in some way - due to reputation, free advertising, and the like - than any mere pittance of money due for the work, and thus he can skate away without paying.
I’m sure he continues to hold to this position despite the fact that (a) top law firms don’t have to burnish their reputation by being his lawyer; and (b) his reputational value has cratered over the past few years. Though I’m pretty sure many of his MAGAts would consider it a valid excuse.
I heard Dershowitz on the radio last week criticizing the FBI search. He sounded like a complete idiot. I used to have respect for the guy, but something about Trump brings out the crazy in some people.
Bite your tongue! He’s a national treasure!
Be hilarious if he gets charged and has to go to trial with a PD.
If I were a lawyer remotely interested in representing him (not bloody likely), I would quadruple my hourly rate, insist on a sizable retainer up front, warn him when it was close to being depleted, and not work a freakin’ nanosecond that wasn’t paid for.
The federal public defenders are light years better than the bozos he’s likely to hire. But they won’t lie for him or call it a witch hunt
Gee, could it be…?
Some Republicans also suspect former president Donald Trump’s relentless fundraising pitches and cash hoarding has exhausted the party’s online donor base.
Be even more hilarious if he fires his lawyers for trying to talk sense into him and he ends up defending himself pro se.
There’s also been six years of scammy online fundraising (separate from Trump’s own scammy online fundraising) preying on outrage and siphoning off a good bit of money that otherwise would’ve gone to the GOP.
Gee, you appoint the guy who committed the BIGGEST MEDICARE FRAUD in history to oversee your campaign cash----and then you’re puzzled when some of that cash goes missing.
It’s a complete mystery!
No doubt. But as the WaPo story says:
So it’s not just an “income” issue; it’s an “out-go” issue.
I wonder who is getting the air miles?
Not only that, but…what are they charging to those cards? The WaPo reporter wouldn’t have included the phrase “whose ultimate purpose isn’t clear from the filings” just to raise the word-count.
The Dem. should make an ad campaign revolving around this message.
“How can we trust that Republican party to handle the nations finances when they can’t even handle their own?”
Tryng to summon the grossness to traipse into some breitbart-type messageboard to ask what does it say to them that their Leader can’t find a lawyer.
Let me see if I can hit the high points for you.
“There are plenty of lawyers who would love to represent President Trump, but the Soros-controlled deep-state liberal elite mainstream media has poisoned them against him, and they’re all (rightly) terrified that antifa blm transgender terrorists will kill them and their families if they dare to go up against the woke queer agenda.”
Close enough. You forgot to mention how the ‘woke, queer agenda’ is being promoted by the FBI.
