Well, according to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, “The word ‘atheism’ is polysemous—it has multiple related meanings”. In short, it can mean a simple lack of belief in God, as well as a broader philosophical system of disbelief in a supreme being.
So we’re both right.
Also, I just learned a new word! Looking forward to working ‘polysemous’ into a future conversation.
Hehe, I was watching the horror movie ‘The Nun’ for Halloween last night. One repeated horror motif was that crosses on walls would rotate to be upside-down as a signifier that a demonic presence was near.
Just don’t use it in mixed company or you might get your face slapped.
I studied that photo more than I should have and I don’t think it’s a fair cop. There was something printed on the spine and a purple ribbon bookmark sticking out. From their positions it looked like he was holding it the Bible the right way up but it was a rare case where Holy Bible was not imprinted on the front cover.
I have no trouble believing he hasn’t a clue about what it says, though, just like that golden calf statue of him clutching the Constitution in his hand.
Not to take Trump’s side, but you can’t assume that. Has he ever stated he doesn’t believe in God? He’ll give lip service to his religious supporters (like “2 Corinthians”), and it’s obviously phony, but that doesn’t mean he’s a card-carrying atheist. He’s going to believe in God enough to court favor, and nothing past that.
