A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 2)

Oops, “convict” should be the second word, of course. :man_facepalming:

‘A one-man army of hate’ | Rioter who used stun gun on Officer Fanone sentenced to 12.5 years in prison

WASHINGTON — A federal judge sentenced a California man who drove a stun gun into the base of former DC Police Officer Mike Fanone’s neck during the Jan. 6 riot to more than 12 years in prison on Wednesday, calling him one of the “most serious offenders” from that day.

Daniel Rodriguez, 39, of Panorama City, California, pleaded guilty in February to four felony counts of conspiracy, obstruction of an official proceeding, tampering with documents and inflicting bodily injury on an officer with a dangerous weapon. On Wednesday, he appeared before U.S. District Judge Amy B. Jackson for sentencing. Prosecutors asked for 14 years in prison — arguing he brought a group of people to D.C. with weapons on Jan. 6 for what he expected to be a violent conflict. Rodriguez’s public defenders asked for a much lower sentence of six years in prison. Jackson quickly made clear that request wouldn’t hold water,

“Your messages were all blood, war, weapons, hanging,” Jackson said. “You never even anticipated a peaceful gathering.”

In short, the judge said, “You’re a damn liar and you’re going to prison for 12 1/2 years”. And the dumbass’s response?

Afterward, he smiled and hugged his attorneys and, while being led out of the courtroom by U.S. Marshals, yelled emphatically, “Trump won!”

I’m so glad that Fanone did not die. He has been a strong voice in this whole twisted mess, and he did not deserve the beating and torture he was subjected to. The defendant pos should be really glad Fanone didn’t die. In my not-a-lawyer opinion this Rodriguez should have been tried for attempted murder. I really have no doubt Mr. Rodriguez’s purpose was to end a cop’s life. Lucky for him he didn’t get his wish that day.

Ever since Traitor Tan the Conman riled up his moronic minions on January 6, 2021, I’ve often found myself wondering what would have happened afterward had that mob actually managed to murder Pence and Pelosi.

The mob was out for blood, cause… reasons. Those that organized that insurrection probably hoped they could get the house to vote in the next president. One vote per state, not number of representatives per state. They probably would have got trump in.

Then, probably full on civil war I suppose. Though it wouldn’t be very civil.

It’s an interesting question though @Monty . Much like “What is a dog going to do if it catches a car”

I’ve wondered, if they had actually got Pence in their hands would they really have hung him, like was being chanted?

I think they would have torn him into pieces.

The only way this could have happened is if they’d overwhelmed his Secret Service guards, which almost certainly would have involved several deaths on both sides of the fight. A victorious mob that already has blood on their collective hands probably wouldn’t have taken a moment to reflect on their choices.

In my opinion, this picture of the famous gallows:

suggests this was not seriously meant to be used. The noose seems low to the platform, and it looks like it was specifically designed for exactly the types of photos that came out of it. I mean, it even has a sign that says, “This is art”. That could be an attempt to make a serious tool of violence look innocuous, but I think Occam’s Razor suggests we take them at their word.

Despite all their bluster, with the possible exception of some of the hard core Proud Boys or Oathkeepers, I believe most of the people at the capitol that day would before the event have been horrified at the idea of actually murdering Pence.

But then they became a mob.

The problem with a mob is that it will do things none of the individuals involved would have done on their own. You start out angry, get caught up in the moment and get more angry, and things happen that nobody in a more sober moment would have condoned.

The problem with nooses is that they’re very simple and you have to work pretty hard to make them NOT functional. This platform probably could be used to actually hang somebody.

So there’s no real way of knowing, but I do think it’s possible (though by no means a surety) that given the opportunity some in the crowd would have done it, and there would not have been the will in the larger crowd to stop them.

From what I’ve heard, the noose was meant to suggest a scene from the White Supremacist book The Turner Diaries, which many who were there had read, and would immediately recognize.

See here, too:

I’ve never been able to tell for sure, but it’s always looked to me like there’s a beer or soda can stick in the middle of the coils to bulk them out and look more like a hangman’s noose. Even before I noticed the frame was so short I was looking at the way the rope was fastened to it and and how flimsy the whole thing was, saying to myself, “That’s something symbolic, not seriously meant to hang someone.”

You’re right, though. From time immemorial people in mobs have gotten worked up and done things they would never do as individuals.

It’s bolted together and made from 10 or 12 foot long 4x4s. It’s at least as structurally sound as throwing a rope over a tree branch . . . which has a long, ugly, history of working just fine.

Yeah, not likely to snap someone’s neck with that setup, but dangle 'til you strangle would work fine.

I’m not sure they would have hung Pence, particularly since the gallows was not sturdy enough to do that. But I have no doubt they would have caused him serious injury if they had been able to get their hands on him.

As for Pelosi or some of the others like Ocasio-Cortez, I have no doubt they would have murdered them in cold blood.

And probably gang-raped Ocasio-Cortez first.

…or after.

Your basis for this is?

I think I’ll go with “That’s art like ‘kiss my ass’ is actually a pronoun”. Why would that be the one thing they weren’t serious about doing?

There are trees around. Or other ways to murder. They wanted blood, and would’ve got if if they had managed to reach Pence or Pelosi.
