That implies orc restaurants.
From other pictures, and because I know how to tie a “hangman’s noose”, IMHO both the noose - which appeared to be wrapped around a solid cylinder - and the “round turn & two half hitches” tying it to the crossbeam would be very likely to fail, leaving Mr. Pence on the floor, perhaps with some rope-burn on his neck.
The wooden structure would have failed, too, it had no bracing on the uprights.
It was just art, though extremely threatening art.
I’m entirely certain that the uprights are single, continuous, 4x4s that run through the platform, no “bracing” required.
The base coulda used two more diagonals, of course.
Lookimg again at the pictures, you are right.
The only thing I can’t see is how they attached the top beam. But I can’t see anything there that I wouldn’t consider perfectly mundane deck building work.
But the stairs suck!
I’ve never been involved in a hanging, but I have done a bit of rappelling, and it is impressive how much force an adult can put on a rope and structure from only falling a few feet.
The site I grabbed the clip from mentions that very thing.
That line has confounded and delighted fans ever since the movie’s release, with a good number of tweets and Reddit comments centering on its seeming anachronisms. “Not only is it out of place, it doesn’t even make sense!” complained one confused commenter. “How do orcs even know what a menu is? Do they have fancy restaurants in Mordor? I guess they must.”
The link includes thoughts on the three guys who played in the scene and mentions they’d emailed all three screenwriters but not gotten a reply.
The food is barely passible, but on the upside the service is horrible.
“Does it want seconds, Precious? Nice fresh fishies?” (Yes, I know it’s a different character.)
You should read the Yelp reviews.
That is a good response. I tend to think, after reading about ideas here, that it would have happened. I can;t imagine though what the government response after that would have been. Martial law in DC maybe.
I don’t like Pence, but at least his behavior in public was civilized, unlike Frump.
I once bought a Klingon cookbook at a sci fi convention.
People took time to build that gallows. It could be functional enough IMHO depends on what a crazed traitor would do.
Doesn’t really matter it it’s ‘art’ or ‘symbolic’. Not one bit. Pence would probably have been stomped to death or something else. His SS would fight for him, fight for there own lives as well.
While I’m sure the SS is well trained, and well armed, how do they fight off 100 - 200 people? Maybe, after 15 -20 dead they would change their minds. Maybe not. - “Quantity has a quality all its own.” - Joseph Stalin
Is the recipe for Gagh to “place in bowl”.
That book doesn’t mention the need to have a sturdy latch on the oven door.
I can’t see it being a best seller. Who’d want to eat Klingons?
“To Serve Klingons”
No that direction was not mentioned. But Gagh did have a recipe. Alfredo noodles were the base and the sauce was tinted to look reddish brown. There were recipes for klingon blood wine, Fried Ferengi ears, and Andorran Brain Matter.
That was one of the insurrection-planners’ hopes: a “reasonable” pretext to declare martial law, incidentally cancelling Biden’s inauguration, of course. For the Good of the Nation, etc.
From what I’ve heard the pro-dictatorship conspirators had convinced themselves that left-wing people would show up, fight with the MAGA mob, and thus provide that pretext for martial law. The left was too smart for them, though.
Well, for one, the discussion in this thread on these boards has given me that impression. Plus a number of comments in this thread and from various news sources.
If they had thrown a rope with a noose over a tree branch or something similar then I would say that was a different situation. HOWEVER, whether it was symbolic, functional or simply incompetent in its construction there is no doubt in my mind it was a traitorous, horrific and despicable thing to erect on that day, at that place.
Honestly, I doubt Pence would have been alive by the time they got him to those gallows if they had been able to get their hands on him. Someone already said they would have likely torn him to pieces. The intent of members of the mob was undoubtedly to cause him serious injury or death.
