I wonder if any steps have been taken to increase security. Non lethal stuff. We all witnessed the insane MAGA crowd that was J6. I would think that security should all have respirators/gas masks and more serious or wider area dispersal tools.
I’m just spitballin’ here. The area around the grounds of the Capital, must have a sprinkler system… It may be on like large parks that have to have the impact sprinklers be placed/plugged in for each zone though. But, an additional system might work. One that could have a deterrent chemical added to it.
There was an awful lot of scaffolding to throw a rope over. I think it might have ended very badly for Pence, depending on which group got their hands on him.
Well, when Trump wanted to do his little side-show with a bible during the BLM protests in the summer of 2020, they didn’t seem to lack the resources to clear that park quite quickly. The problem wasn’t a lack of tools, it’s that someone decided not to use the tools they have.
That just moves the “someone” who made the decision back one or more steps in the command structure.
The point is, if someone wasn’t making the decision to let the cops hang, the cops would have had more than enough tools to deal with the J6 attackers. No need to start speculating about new tools.

What I do remember about day is my mother calling telling me to turn on the TV. She was horrified at what was happening, and she was a Republican. Or at least registered as one.
Yeah… The ‘cops’ whether it be Capital police or DC police got put into a position of just trying to stay alive. I’m surprised more didn’t use lethal force. But what are you going to do against a crowd that large?

I think they where hoping for reinforcements from the National Guard.
Lethal force would have been terrible. But it can make the insurrectionists re-think their actions. I think if a few live rounds were fired – or even non-lethal rounds – the insurrectionists would have turned tail and ran.
they knew that people in the crowd were armed. they were seen earlier with weapons and did not want to go through the mags at the rally.
there would have been quite the bloody shootout had the police opened fire duting the rally. the one person shot was in a small area and there were members of congress being evacuated.
Or it would have encouraged the ones who showed up with weapons concealed about them to haul them out and start shooting back. I seem to recall seeing at least one bit of video showing a guy up in a tree with some sort of long gun.

Yes, I recall reading him saying something along the lines of “They are not here to shoot at me!” because it is OK to shoot, as long as it is at somebody else.
And on 5th Avenue he would do it himself and he would get away with it.
When Trump says he requested the National Guard and he was turned down, he’s not exactly lying.
At one point, he requested thousands of National Guard troops to march with him to the Capitol as he claimed victory, a request that was, of course denied.
Agreed, with the cross bar is sitting on top of the verticals, that is plenty strong enough for what they were intending. The only “weakness” that I can see is that the platform would interfere with hanging vertically and would hopefully give a victim something to hang on to and prevent strangling.
No one they where after would have ever made it to that half-assed gallows. And even if they got drug there, and still alive, it wouldn’t really matter.
