FBI Director Christopher Wray revealed during a marathon testimony on Wednesday that investigators still do not know if former President Donald Trump was grazed by a bullet or a piece of shrapnel during his attempted assassination.
Twice during the hours-long session, Wray told lawmakers that the FBI was still working to determine what exactly struck the former president on his right ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. “My understanding is that either it [a bullet] or some shrapnel is what grazed his ear,” Wray told Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-Calif.).

He says that some people are claiming that the injury we see in press photos isn’t consistent with a grazing firearm injury and that it seems very likely that it wasn’t a bullet injury considering not a drop of information about it has been released.

Absolutely. At this point I don’t think we have any way to conclude what hit him, except it was something, and that happened while he was shot at. For him to say a bullet hit him isn’t a lie at this point, because maybe it was. Now, if he says he knows for certain it was a bullet, that’s almost surely a lie. But casually referring to it as being shot isn’t necessarily inaccurate.
And for Trump, who probably tells a dozen lies before he even wakes up in the morning, that’s pretty good, relatively speaking.
I don’t see the repressing of the medical hospital reports after the shooting as being evidence that it wasn’t a bullet. The reports probably had is actual height, weight and blood pressure, what medications that he was on etc. Things that showed that he is not the heathiest person who was ever elected to office. So I would expect them to suppressed under any circumstances.
True. For everything about Trump that bothers me, and FFS I could go for hours, claiming a bullet hit him is probably the last thing. He was hurt in an attempted assassination where someone else died.
You might as well be upset if he says the wrong ear was injured, that has about the same amount of relevance.
A bullet means he came lots closer to dying than shards. The bullet going a couple cm towards the other ear would likely be fatal. The shards not so much, although he could have been hurt worse if they’d hit him in the eye.
In terms of what hit him, you’re correct. In a larger sense, he came close to being shot with a bullet which fortunately missed its intended target.
I say fortunately because, as much as I despise him and all he stands for, his being assassinated or even gravely wounded would have had sparked a whole lot of bad consequences for the country.
But it does matter. Surviving a bullet plays much better to his worshipping throngs and his exalted legacy than surviving a “mere” piece of debris. It gets them more worked up, more agitated. Remember when Eric trump proclaimed that half his ear had been blown off? When you could clearly see his ear intact at the scene.
Or we could go with the less classy but more forceful Spanish (in its original Rioplatense variety) and call it “Me re cago”… (“I’m really really about to shit myself”)
That’s different. That’s exaggerating the extent of his injuries, which is a complete fabrication and bullshit to garner sympathy. Making assumptions about the cause of an injury we may never actually have an answer to isn’t itself a big deal.
Consider where we are at today. Joe Biden has dropped out, Kamala Harris has taken his place, most everyone on the left is coalescing around her and supporting her. The left is energized and motivated. The Republican Party is throwing hissy fits and threatening nonsense lawsuits.
If Trump were killed, we’d be seeing nothing but eulogies and memorials, we’d probably have violence in the streets. It would be terrible. The timeline we are in where the bullets missed is undoubtedly the better one.
I can accept that too. Interestingly, in the Spain variety of Spanish it would rather mean “I am about to shit myself again”. And “Me requetecago” is made up, but it would mean “I am doubling down on shitting myself again”. But yours is phonetically much closer to the urinal original.
I don’t know that I believe that. Fiction is full of stories of plucky charismatic leaders who get killed by the evil empire, but that just makes the movement even stronger since they now have a martyr. (Or the genre-savvy evil emperor refuses to kill the plucky charismatic leader to avoid “making a martyr of them”).
But the reason the fiction works is because that so often is not the case in real life. I think when Trump goes, he goes like Rush Limbaugh did – forgotten almost immediately. Trump isn’t the face of an idea that is bigger than all of us. He’s somebody who is useful to some people right now.
If it was a case of Trump choking to death on a hamberder I’d be 100% in agreement with you. In a public assassination attempt during a rally for his reelection campaign? There is absolutely zero chance people will shrug and forget it immediately. That’s insane to suggest such a thing.
If you’re talking about a hypothetical thing in the future, sure, but please remember I am specifically talking about this one incident, and what would have happened if it had succeeded, and one reason why it’s good that it didn’t.

Result in a video that covers about 10% of the screen area.
