A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 2)

Another revealing comment by Trump was that Biden hates Harris. Apparently, Joe’s got some sour grapes at being overthrown in a coup.

I’ll go out on a limb here and say Trump’s actually projecting about JD Vance.

He also ranted that nobody knows how to pronounce Dana Bash’s first name. I’m not fucking joking.

He just said they got “Best Commercial of the week” from a clip they made from a Kamala speech because… you know… you can “rewind” now while watching stuff not like it used to be. I’m not joking. I feel I need to keep throwing that in.

No need for you to joke when the pubbies are running a joke as their candidate.

Still far too many people in red hats aren’t laughing, though.

That’s because the red-hats are as stupid as he is. However, most journalists, progressives, and the leaders of other countries do laugh at him, not to mention all the members of the UN General Assembly when he bragged to them about being the greatest president in history.

AP has this:

Following a new playbook … that involves personal attacks on Harris, (the Screaming ShitGibbon) took issue with a claim that Harris’ biggest strength is that she is a “beautiful woman.”

“I’m much better looking than her” …

Yeah, right. We have looked at your orange face anus for nearly a decade at this point. You would think we would know who looks better.

Ben Sasse, former Congressman from Nebraska, is in trouble in Florida, and DeSantis himself says they’re going to look into Sasse’s apparent big spending. It’s not strictly schadenfreude, but I wasn’t sure where else to put it and I like it when they fight.

If Trump thinks he’s a woman, doesn’t that explain the heels?

And yet …

[On Monday, Aug. 12] Donald Trump compared Kamala Harris to his wife, Melania Trump, while complimenting her “beautiful” appearance on the cover of Time magazine … “But of course, she’s a beautiful woman, so we’ll leave it at that.”.
Donald Trump Says Kamala Harris' 'Beautiful' TIME Cover Reminds Him of Melania

So now he just says whatever pops into his head, whether it makes any sense or not or contradicts whatever he said earlier. Sounds like full-on dementia has finally set in. Separately, in a CNN interview with David Axelrod, Axelrod said that based on his latest public appearances Trump has become so unhinged that his advisors would be crazy to let him debate Harris.

Not really Schadenfreude, as Ben Sasse is one of the more sane and moderate Republicans, though he did mostly vote the Republican party line as Senator. I have no idea what went on at the University of Florida but I know that DeSantis hates education in general and universities in particular, and in any battle between DeSantis and Sasse, my betting would be that Sasse did something right.

He also voted to acquit Trump.

Aides not telling Trump red states “looking worse than they should” to avoid upsetting him: report
AUGUST 15, 2024

“They’re looking worse than they should,” one GOP operative with access to the data said. “Donald Trump is not losing Florida or Ohio, but that isn’t what’s concerning… It’s a trend of softening support.”

The three sources would not allow Rolling Stone to print any of the data related to Ohio and Florida, and perhaps for good reason; they believe the data would deal another heavy blow to party morale. Republicans had hoped that excitement over Harris’ entry into the race would eventually fade, but the new revelations in two red-shaded states now have them worrying that Trump’s electoral woes are a much more lasting problem. Rolling Stone’s sources say that with Trump reacting erratically to Harris’ ascendance, his aides have not briefed the former president on the data or their concerns in fear that it would only upset him. [my bold]

Some longtime GOP operatives aren’t surprised by Trump’s collapsing hopes, pinning much of the blame on the candidate himself for obsessing over trivial issues. "Trump’s being punished right now for not staying on message and not addressing issues people care about,” Frank Luntz, a Republican pollster, told Rolling Stone. “This election was his to lose, and he’s losing it… And he’s incapable of changing.”

Trump [preening]: Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the bestest one of all?
Aides in Mirror: Donald Trump is the bestest, popularest, and good-lookingest in all the land.

Talk about a snowflake living in a bubble with new clothes.

Not to be a jerk, but you really should read up on the story before making a comment like this. Sasse is alleged to have tripled the expenditures by the office of the president of UF during his only full year working there. He gave multiple jobs to former members of his Senate staff and other friends; some of these jobs were new positions he created out of thin air, while, for the jobs that were already in place, Sasse gave the new hires salaries that were an average of 44% higher than what their predecessors had made.

Most of these new hires were also working remotely; they lived in places like Washington D.C. and Nashville instead of in Gainesville or anywhere else in the state of Florida. The most egregious item mentioned was travel expenses. Sasse’s predecessor, Kent Fuchs, spent $28,000 on travel in his final year as university president. Sasse spent $633,000 on travel in one year! Did he get the Concorde out of mothballs?

As to DeSantis, he hired Sasse for the job. The only way that Sasse got that job is by being in lockstep with DeSantis’ odious views towards higher education. The original article by the student newspaper that broke this story noted that Sasse spent his time as university president openly denigrating professors who he felt were not doing enough research (he said they had “quiet retired”) and proposing that the university slash the number of departments that it supports by 30%.

Ultimately, this episode shows that a Republican with integrity is about as hard to find as a black rhinoceros in the world anymore. There’s a few out there, but they are getting fewer and fewer by the year.

It should have occurred to me that DeSantis got him the job. The usual cronyism and Old Boys Network.

Sasse claimed that the high expenditures were all related to much-needed university reform. My impression of him was mainly based on a single interview in which he came across as moderate and well-spoken. The most egregious position he took was on climate change, but even there, he wasn’t a denier, but rather argued about the costs of some of the mitigation strategies that were being proposed – he was dead wrong, but at least not peddling anti-science falsehoods like lunatics like Rick Santorum and the late Senator James Inhofe and all their like-minded ilk.

Apparently I was bamboozzled by Sasse’s eloquence in that interview and I bow to your superior knowledge of the facts. Apparently Republicans with integrity are indeed a rare and endangered species.

Yeah, Sasse cited in that statement he put out several supposed reform areas, but didn’t bother to provide any sort of dollar figures regarding expenditures for them. As it was, one of those areas he cited was “tenure review” AKA the quiet retiring thing I referenced in my original post. That is clearly aimed at pushing professors out of work and doesn’t come across as the sort of thing that would cost the university money.

I’m at least glad to see that the national media is picking that story up a little bit. If Elizabeth Warren became president of UMass and had a scenario exactly like this, there would be stories on Fox News every hour and Congressional Republicans demanding investigations. Just another IOKWARDI situation.

Hopefully, Sasse can be grilled in front of some kind of committee anyway. We can have some sweet schadenfreude then seeing him trying to explain these expenditures.

I guess Trump does not want to insult his future country where he’s going to run away to.

On another thread here at the SDMB, I learned about vranyo, a Russian word meaning white-lie. It’s a custom of lying in order to avoid unpleasant truths, and while it might not always be done with malicious intent, it has some harmful effects when it becomes a cultural norm. That’s how they deal with Trump. They can’t tell him the truth because he can’t handle the truth.

So he’s right, they ARE fake polls.

Even a broken watch can find an acorn twice a day.
