I’m OK with that. Either literally or figuratively. Or both. In fact, I volunteer for a few shifts of running around in front of Trump sprinkling Legos.
Um, sir? You’ll have to go without shoes for just a little while.
There’s only one fly on his head.
Post of the day!
Nice!
Perfect!
I know you’ve already been clapped on the back, but yeah, that was good.
mmm
Taking comfort from this----a tweet from a writer alleging that McConnell said this, a tweet later DELETED by that writer, with no comment from McConnell at any time----is like taking comfort from a since-deleted post that claims ‘a Trump surrogate say he is a patriot who would never do anything to harm anyone.’
Nothing has ever been less justified.
Woo Hoo! CNN reporting Gaetz is OUT! Withdrawn from consideration!
Even though he resigned his seat, he’s still the winner of the 2024 election for that seat. Is he going to take it in January?
He’s said previously that he won’t, but
If he does, then the Ethics Committee will revive the case against him.
This^^^
I think stopping the release of the ethics report was the prime reason Gaetz resigned when he did.
It was not required for him to resign to be in the running for the AG job. He knows if the details of that ethics report get out his career is over.
I expect he wants to run for Governor of Florida. In order to have a decent chance at winning that primary I don’t see him going back to Congress.
Does it count if I wish for bad things to happen to Trump’s supporters? Or outsource it?
Given how quickly he folded it almost has to be something like that. Unless he was presented with a “this gets out and you’re ruined” level of threat I’d have expected him to hang on until forced out of the running, not just give up.
I’m curious as to whether Trump or the new Congress can block a reopening of the ethics investigation if Gaetz does decide to accept the seat.
Isn’t there a Sunshine law or something that would force them to release the report??
A sunshine law? In the Sunshine State? It is to laugh.
(For the record, there is an official law on the books, but Desantis and his cronies routinely ignore it, without consequence.)
More seriously, there is a law, but (a) it covers only the activities of state-level officials and state business, and would have any applicability to or enforceability over this House investigation; and (b) its scope is to simply require that meetings be held in public and resulting records also be publicly available, and that decisions made behind closed doors cannot be enforced. Even if the law could be applied to the House committee, there’s nothing in the law that says a report (with no associated action) must be made public. It’s a pretty limited, toothless law. (And yet the scumbags in charge still ignore it. Ugh.)
These two things just don’t fit. Everyone knows this report is out there, so why wouldn’t someone use it if he does try to run for some other office? Any Republican looking to run in the primary to be the Republican candidate for governor will be motivated to release this report.
His only chance to avoid this is to slink away, and avoid any public office at all. They’ll be okay with him as a lawyer and maybe Fox News talking forehead, but anything else? Release the report, easy win.
