A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 2)

Couldn’t the existence of the report be used by the other side to hurt his case? Or have I been watching too many dramas?

If being a scumbag is a bar to being a working lawyer, the whole industry is going to collapse!

Huh. Yeah.

A number of years ago someone requested all of the emails sent between person x and y.

We had the backups of these email exchanges. It took days to weed through them. Cost thousands of dollars in man hours. But we had to do it.

We now keep only a few months of email backups. You want a copy to keep? That’s on you.

Something smells. Perhaps a deal with Senate Republicants to sacriface Rapey Mcforehead to jam the “ever so slightly” less repugnant choices through.

I know, wild conspiracy theory🤔

Silly as organizing fake elector slates and kidnapping (for his own good) Pence to overthrow the elected government of the US. Never happen except in movies.

A couple of months ago we were talking about Tina Peters, the Colorado election worker who was sentenced to 9 years in prison for her data breach scheme regarding the 2020 election machines. The judge in that case tore into her letting her know in no uncertain terms that she was no hero and is indeed a criminal.

What is the over under then that Trump pardons her on his first day in office? Moreso, what are the odds that Trump gives her the Medal of Freedom for standing up for his rights to be elected King of America? And finally, what are the odds that he invites her to his State of the Union speech and shows her off as a hero? I wish C3PO was here to calculate those odds for me!

You assume whoever would run against Gaetz would have access to the report. Speaker Johnson and the other GOP members of the Ethics Committee have been clear the investigation ended the second Gaetz was no longer a member of the House. And the report will be deep sixed as a result.

A D member of the committee could have leaked it but since that didn’t happen while he was up for AG I seriously doubt it will happen now.

I’d say it’s unlikely just because it doesn’t benefit Trump to do so.

He has failed to pardon many people who jumped on a legal grenade for him in the past.

Also, Peters was convicted of state crimes in Colorado district court. Trump has no power to grant pardons for state crimes.

She was convicted on state charges in Colorado, not on Federal charges, so he couldn’t pardon her.

I’d bet good money that lots of people involved in this have kept copies, it would be insane not to. A nod and wink to the right person, and leaks happen.

Had he dragged this out, I’m pretty certain it would have leaked before any confirmation hearings. As long as there was a chance he might drop out, or be dropped prior to such hearings, it was safer not to leak it, which is why we haven’t seen it.

You’re right. I thought they were federal charges in federal court, because she filed a motion to dismiss charges in a US District Court (which was denied), then the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals denied the appeal of that dismissal, and then Neil Gorsuch denied her application for an injunction to dismiss or delay the trial. That seems weird to me if it was a state case, but I’m not a lawyer.

Also, every article I read on her trial neglected to mention which court it was held in for some weird reason. I had to look up the judge to confirm that it was indeed a Colorado State court.

So yeah, he literally can’t pardon her even if he wanted to (and I doubt he cares enough to bother anyway).

Ah, I forgot those were state charges so guess she’s going to serve her term.

At least one other person may have a copy. But if they were gonna release it they would have by now.

There seems to be a basic misunderstanding about how this works - there are 10 House members on the Ethics Committee, 5 GOP, 5 Democrats. When they conclude an investigation they hold a vote to refer the matter to the full House. The ONLY way their report is released is If a majority of the committee members vote to do that. In the Gaetz matter that did not happen. There aren’t a bunch of copies of this report laying around for someone to leak as a result.

This is why GOP senators were talking about issuing subpoenas to get the report. Now that Gaetz is out of the House and withdrawn his name for the AG spot this report is highly unlikely to see the light of day.

AND the hacker Love_Rhombus mentioned got access to documents from a lawsuit one of the women is pursuing against Gaetz. That is information that has a better chance of being made public.

But the House report is most likely a big, fat NOPE.

If the thing were called a sundown law, they’d fight each other showing how well they could follow it.

LegalEagle (22 min). Well worth it for the Shadenfreude.

The Insane Story of How the Onion Bought InfoWars (and How Alex Jones Is Trying to Steal It Back)

This may be stretching the concept of “enablers” since he’s not in the USA, but normalizing Trump anywhere is helping him. This dummy felt that pouring his money into a Trump-themed restaurant was a good investment? But I’m sure it would be a roaring success here in the US.

Pure primate instinct. Defer to the biggest ape with the loudest, most aggressive hoot. Sad.

What did he call the restaurant - - The Cowboy Skyscraper Buffet?
