A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 3)

Which means that you both get what you want, and you’re both happy. Congratulations. You just made a Nazi happy.

Your bullshit meter is in calibration. I live outside Atlanta. I see Teslas all the time. I hear “Dixie” car horns and see MAGA flags and bumper stickers all the time.

“Swastikar”
“SwasTacoma”
“Swastick-shift”

This is fun!

At least the Nazi’s money doesn’t actually go to Elmo if they’re buying a used model.

I’ve seen people trying to get a “Sell Your Tesla” movement going on Reddit - I’m thinking it needs to be “sell your Tesla AND donate the proceeds to a charity that helps someone Elon hates”.

I heard some guy on YouTube call dear leader

Save-a-Lot Stalin

Buying a car is a major investment. Selling it for a tiny fraction of what you paid to take a political stance is laudable but should not be considered mandatory. I have no animosity toward anyone who bought a Tesla years ago and still has it. Buying a new (or used) one today is a different story.

Cool, send me a check, and I’ll be in a new EV by the end of the week.

Nice idea, sure but even most Tesla owners aren’t necessarily that financially well-off to be able to do that without some serious pain to their finances.

There are a couple of people here (not just you) who seem to be being very judgmental about people who bought Teslas before Musk’s recent activities.

If I found out that, say, Paul McCartney had become a Nazi, I wouldn’t keep listening to my Beatles albums just because he wasn’t a Nazi 60 years ago, know what I mean?

Sure. But there’s a big difference between expecting people to not listen to music that they had previously bought any longer, and expecting people to immediately sell off their Teslas – as well as expecting that they should then:

Ehh, if you bought a Tesla new, you probably have the wherewithal to trade it in on another car and take a bit of a loss it if’s important to you. But then again, I don’t think you should put a ton of stock in what other people think about what you drive.

Part of that is because:

Ehh, I still happily listen to the Velvet Underground. Moe Tucker becoming a Trumpist only diminishes my enjoyment only a smidgen. If Paul went full on neo-nazi tomorrow, his old stuff would still be inoffensive pablum.

Driving a Tesla is now an explicitly political act. It indicates either that you support Elon Musk or that you’re OK with being mistaken for someone who does. Neither is a good look.

I for one can’t listen to Ted Nugent anymore because of who he’s become.

So throwing away a $20 record is the same as throwing away a $50,000 car, got it.

Do you think I like driving a car so closely associated with a Nazi who has performed a (so far) successful coup on the US government? Do you think I like that when I buy parts it enriches him even a tiny bit?

Fuck all of that. If I had $30,000 or so budgeted for another car it would have been gone yesterday. If I had “All I Wanna Do” money, I’d have donated it to NPR, too.

I get that you’re angry about what’s happening, but pick a target that matters.

No shit.

Getting out from under a loan, as well as trading in your Tesla and getting something else, are not necessarily things that all Tesla drivers can easily do at the drop of a hat.

Some of the posts, including yours, seem to be implying that Tesla drivers, as a group, are uber-wealthy, and can easily do such things. That’s presumptuous.

ETA: @echoreply explained this even better than I did.

Then take the bus.

FUCK YOU, you holier-than-thou asshat.

Look folks, The People’s Poet Anti-fascist has spoken. I’m sure he be denouncing Fords and VWs (et al) next.

No, it’s not, especially if it was bought more than a year or so ago. One might want to put a disclaimer bumper sticker on it to insulate themselves from crusaders, though.

Ehh, I couldn’t listen to him after about 90 or so. His lyrics sucked, and I could play about 75% of anything he could at the drop of a hat. Stopping listening to Nugent isn’t really a political act, more one of ignoring a long-time has-been who wasn’t that interesting in his heyday.

If it were 1941 I wouldn’t be driving either one of those no matter when I bought it. I won’t even ride in a Tesla as a passenger.

As long as I’m magicking up a new car, I’ll also get right on with fixing the systemic problems in the US’ transportation infrastructure that make taking the bus an impossible option for so much of the country.

Remember during WWII when Ford drivers were rounded up and put in internment camps because old Henry was a Nazi sympathizer, and driving a Ford was considered aiding and abetting?

By dumbfucks and Rick-wannabees too stupid to understand that buying a Tesla a few years ago wasn’t an unethical choice (potentially quite the opposite) and that not everyone has the money to throw away the value they’d lose by now selling.

No doubt you have the cash to throw around to do that, and will shortly be donating an appropriate equivalent amount “to a charity that helps someone Elon hates" in solidarity with those of whom you make equivalent demands. Unless of course you are a hypocritical fucktard, and we know you aren’t that.

Feel free to post a copy of the receipt.
