A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 3)

Well I happen to be latino and so I can call them a “reverenda manga de pelotudos” without risk, though most latinos wouldn’t understand what that means. We do latino our own way down here.

History repeating itself; George W. Bush managed to attract Hispanic voters which led to a lot of talk about how that would lead to a long term re-alignment of Hispanics with the GOP. The Republicans responded by doubling down on racism and driving them away, because they don’t want Hispanic voters. It took some years, but those conservative Hispanic voters got over their moment of acknowledging reality and voted for Trump, proving that “once burned, twice shy” doesn’t apply to right wingers. They’ll never stop voting for people who want them dead.

Ha!

So wouldn’t it be…

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, … won’t get fooled again?

For some or even many of them, sure. But there were an awful lot of repeat Bush and 3 time Trump voters

ETA: I don’t think any of them were getting ready for a new revolution, except the Jan 6 sort

Can a revolution be reactionary? I think that is stretching the definition of revolution.
I can’t get into the mind of MAGAs, so I may be wrong.

Sorry, I was referencing a song by the Who - “Won’t Get Fooled Again”.

The lyrics reference the new revolution and Constitution, but decidedly not the right wing reactionary sort

Yeah, and GWB was confused by reality and The Who.

And not even remotely close to being the worst president ever.

I know many would rank him #2, but the current idiot has lapped the field, several times.

I am not Hispanic. What does ‘reverend gang of rascals’ mean where you are?

Google Translate gave me “A whole damn bunch of morons” when I looked it up earlier, which made sense. It seems like it’s translating an idiom, though.

Huh. It gave me what I posted.

I got something similar with “Detect language” selected (and it incorrectly guessed the language was Latin) but got the result I posted when I then selected Spanish.

That could be it.

What? A Trump-branded project has failed to deliver?

“gold smartphones” is funny. Metallic yellow at best, and neither the phone nor the buyer are even remotely smart.

It’s Rioplatense Spanish, spoken in Argentina and Uruguay and understood by neighboring countries but hard for anybody north of the Tropic of Capricorn.
“Pelotudo” does not mean “Rascal”, and “Reverenda” is used as an intensifier.
“Pelotudo” means “Imbecile” but most specifically the harmful variety of idiot (a harmless idiot is a “Boludo”, though “Boludo” can also be used to affectionately refer to a friend)

ETA: This is a very good translation, if not exact (there being no exact word-for-word translation of “Pelotudo” I think)

I’m sure it’s Obama’s fault somehow…

Latino “conservatives” are VERY socioculturally traditionalist (and classist, IMO) and many of those who went for Trump reveal they don’t really grasp how the American framework of “Whiteness” works. They became convinced they were on the very edge of following the Irish, Italians, etc. in being “promoted” to the In-Group. They became easy targets for planting the fear of the Other Minorities—Black, LGBTs, low-class new immigrant—and of how Liberal policies are communism.

Yes, it’s basically the myth of the model minority. More than a few Asian immigrant groups fall into this trap as well.
