You’re thinking far deeper about it than Schmitt ever did. For Schmitt it was “how can I get my face on right wing media and ingratiate myself to the Great Orange One”. The rest of it is “Fani Willis bad! Yell ‘perjury’! Me alpha!”.
For a somewhat serious answer: the Republicans accuse Smith of targeting Trump and other Republicans for political reasons. They also accuse Fani Willis of the same. When Willis’ affair was revealed, the CT is that she and Smith met secretly to plot out how he could take over her nefarious plot to bring down Trump.
There’s really nothing more than that. It’s not supposed to be an actual accusation of a crime or misdeeds. It’s sole purpose was to make things look shady, to tie them together in people’s minds, and to make Smith look evasive if he admits he was in Atlanta but it was a total coincidence, nothing to do with Willis. And even better if he denies being in Atlanta and is then caught in their masterful trap.
Classic incompetent blunder – planning ahead for the celebration far too much, but the actual thing you plan to celebrate far too little.
Reminds me of a skydiver years ago who had made many jumps, but for the first time he was jumping with a helmet-mounted camera. He spent so much brain-space making sure the camera was turned on, working and properly attached, he forgot to put his chute on before he jumped
I’m looking forward to Friday next week, when I predict that Donald Trump is going to be pissed off. The reason is that next week is Nobel Prize announcement week, and Friday next week will be the announcement of the Peace Prize, which I also predict he will not win.
Who needs to win the peace prize when you can just buy it? Does anybody know who’s currently in consideration? If it’s anybody that Trump can bribe with favors, I’m sure he’ll try to buy that prize too. He’ll be the only person in history with 2 Nobel Prizes! The proof is in the medal.
It’s like his golf “championships”. Earning a win with the best score is for chumps; the victor gets the trophy.
I feel terrible also for his pilot who was supposed to check for chute presence before he jumped but for whatever reason didn’t catch the omission (maybe mistaking the video equipment for the chute?). Just one of those horrible momentary-inattention errors, on the part of the skydiver and possibly also the pilot, that ruins lives out of all proportion to its intrinsic veniality.
