A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 3)

I do. But I hate most of the half time shows. (and the whole half time show hype). So I don’t care. And I’m glad if MAGA is unhappy.

I like Bad Bunny. The music is okay, not great but not terrible. He has appeared on Saturday Night Live as a host and was pretty good (as a comedic actor).

Until this morning, I thought it was a cartoon or a scene in a movie.

There were shirts with “Bad Bunny” on them that were popular a few years back. I have no idea if there’s any connection. The shirts had a cartoon bunny being bad on them.

I think he’s actually hosting the SNL premiere with Doja Cat (because the animals rule). Given my username I feel a camaraderie of sorts.

I thought they swore off the NFL when Colin Kaepernick knelt during the national anthem.

He’s been a big name in the music industry since 2019, so I guarantee you there was.

This isn’t even his first Super Bowl; in 2020 he was a guest performer for Super Bowl LIV (where Jennifer Lopez and Shakira were headlining the half time show).

For some stupidity, a local radio station said that the half time show will be his first concert in the United States. Which is stupid for many reasons; first off, he has done concert tours through the US before in places like Denver, Salt Lake City, Boston, Orlando, DC, Philly, Phoenix… He has probably performed in every major city at some point or another.

Secondly, he’s Puerto Rican. Puerto Rico is the United States. It’s a commonwealth and a US territory, subject to US laws. Puerto Ricans are US citizens, as much as Texans and Californians and Hawaiians.

I

I hope you straightened him out.

I’m not quite old and grumpy enough to start calling up radio stations to gripe at them quite yet.

Give me a decade or two.

But did you know that it’s an island, surrounded by water, big water, ocean water?

I thought it used to be, but the water was all absorbed by the paper towel rolls that Trump threw around the island.

Grampa, what’s a ‘radio station’?

This is not actual stupidity. This year he did not have any tour dates in the US because of the current Administration. Yes, he held a long event in Puerto Rico to help the economy of that territory. I won’t go into if it is considered to be the US or not, because then we would start arguing about if performing at US embassy or base means you are performing in the US.

If they’d said it was his first concert in the US since the Trump administration took power, that would be one thing, but they were saying it was his first ever.

“Did not have any tour dates in the U.S. this year” is not even remotely the same as “has never had a concert in the U.S.”, regardless of how you’re defining concerts in Puerto Rico.

I hesitate to ask for a source for what you said you heard since this is the pit; however, my point was more that even if it was an uninformed statement, it is not completely unfounded, and it is possible that the announcer misunderstood the situation. I myself was surprised that Bad Bunny was performing at the Super Bowl when I heard it, precisely because I knew he had refused to tour in the states this year.

That’s fair. I can’t tell you the source. It was some news station as I was swapping between them today. Maybe KOMO 1000 but I can’t be 100% sure.

But you’re right that it could have been a misunderstanding.

What BB has said is that he won’t include the mainland United States. Not the same as refusing to perform in the US though the media is too dumb to note the difference.

I’m betting he agreed to do this because he will put together a show that will really piss off the Fat Orange Monster and his minions.

But still, Puerto Rico is part of the United States. The people are citizens so that really should settle the matter.

I’m waiting to hear the FOM blast the NFL for allowing an “illegal” to perform. It will be amusing if the dumbfuck tries to revoke Bad Bunny’s visa so he can’t perform.

Right he said he wasn’t going to tour in the US, and I thought that meant he wasn’t planning on any performances there, hence my surprise. At the same time a performance at the Super Bowl is not a tour concert, so it is still means he is keeping his word in that regard. I do agree that it is a spit in the face of the current administration. And it would be interesting if he tries to get the non-existent visa revoked. At the same time I don’t think it matters who performs, as he has always disliked the NFL since they never let him be part of their club.

More specifically, he has said he won’t take his show on tour because he knows his Spanish-speakng audience will be targeted by Trump’s goons. He doesn’t want to worry about having masked blackshirts waiting outside the doors of the venue from city to city, or possibly even just kicking down the doors and interrupting the concert to herd the whole crowd into a processing area, so — no US tour. Doing a show at the Superbowl is very different, because it’s not “his” audience, it’s a bunch of people who’ve bought tickets for the sporting event. Plus, ICE isn’t so stupidly arrogant that they’d put themselves on international TV starting a riot in the stands looking for people. And besides, it’s a live audience of a billion people, so he can do and say more or less what he wants.
