IT’S SNOWING!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I am grateful for each and every one of you wonderful MMPers. :: hugs and kisses ::
Happy Thanksgiving, Mumpers! Enjoy spending the day with family and friends, and eating good foods (hopefully :)), and being thankful for the good stuff in your lives.
I’ve got to get back to my preparations! More later on today!!
Happy Thanksgiving! I’m caffeinating, watching the Macy’s parade, and listening to the dog snore.
Haze, it’s 70 degrees now.
FCM, I’d go for Ritz and Velveeta. Maybe that’s why I’m still single.
Hey, all. Yeah. Happy Turkey Day and all that stuff (why do we do this again?)
Ok, so I’m up and grumpy. Sue me. Turkey is in the oven, and now I babysit a dead bird for 5 hours, basting…
No clue as to why I’m so grumpy. Just am. but don’t let me rain on the parade–enjoy your day, all of you, even those across the Pond who are at work etc.
It’s snowing here–yay!
Lisslar–Simon is now huge and round as well. He’s quite the baby when it comes to dieting. We have decided that he is not really a cat at alll–he is a furry pig. So, his name is now Swimon.
I think I need to take a walk to clear my head. Parents will be here in about 90 minutes.
It’s still snowing! Yay! Mork must be very unhappy. Flurries most of the day, and almost -10 tomorrow morning!
I love winter.
FCM, my Mum told me growing up that my wedding would be catered by McDonald’s, and every guest would get one chicken mcnugget and five fries. And a cup of that crappy orange drink. I think crackers and velveeta sounds even nicer and more skinflinty.
Happy Thanksgiving to any and all!
I didn’t bake yesterday. I should have, but as it is, once I finish my first cup of coffee I’m getting the pies in the oven, and I have plenty of time, really.
I hope they come out all right!
But only if you can frequent enough cafeterias and cheap restaurants to pick up the individually wrapped saltines.
I also love snow. I think I’m just tense about this afternoon. Afterall, it’s not pleasant to have to hostess people you don’t even like. What’s to look forward to? A ton of work, no thanks, and no good conversation and little kids running around. (I am not anti-kid, but when it’s my house and their behavior is unpredictable and they are not disciplined at all, well…). Still, there is the wine.
**Rigsy, ** I feel the same way about screaming kids. They just irritate and stress me out no end, especially if they’re in my house. Fortunately, for now, anyone that comes to my house is waaay past little kid stage.
I’ve made the stuffing, baked the sweet taters and am waiting for them to cool down a bit more before I do the casserole thingy, and will soon start the cranberries. I figure I’ll put the turkey in the oven about 10:30. It should be done in about 4 1/2 to five hours. You know, I bought a Butterball and the instructions say it does not require basting. :dubious: I don’t believe that. I just can’t. I don’t want dried out turkey boobies.
I tasted my stuffing, it was actually pretty decent. Some dried apricots and cranberries, golden delicious apple, celery, onion, rosemary, a touch of fennel seeds, breakfast sausage, and bread cubes and broth, of course.I was supposed to put flat leaf parsley in there, but I didn’t have any. <shrug>.
You know I actually bought cornbread mix with the idea of making some sort of cornbread stuffing. I never got around to making the cornbread, so I guess that’s out of the picture.
I guess I should start the cranberries now. Assuming I can find the recipe I was planning to use. I was going to add some orange zest to the cranberries. Too bad I don’t have any Grand Marnier. That would have been really good!
Hang in there rigs.
Happy Turkey Day, everybody! Or Not Turkey Day to those not of the Amurrkin persuasion. We’re going out in a couple of hours – with just the two of us, no way we’re indulging in an orgy of cooking. Not to mention our kitchen is so annoyingly small that trying to prepare a big meal in there would be an unholy nightmare. So we’re going to go enjoy our lovely view over the water and eat a delicious meal cooked by other people. Works for me.
Since it’s actually a ridiculously warm 71° right now, and was probably at least 65° when he got up, ,Papa Tigs tried to take the dogs for a swim this morning – but the park was closed.
But he took them over to the school yard to run instead, which was very successful. Another woman came with two large dogs that she said were terriers of some variety, but Papa Tigs said looked like Labradoodles on steroids – but were insanely well trained: She’d have the dog sit and stay while she walked across the field and laid their toy down on the ground. Then she’d call them – but she’d have them stop halfway! Talk about obedience! Our guys could take a lesson or three from her! Next dog we have, we’re going to work on even more obedience from day one; these guys are very good for pets, but certainly not in that league.
The leaves very suddenly all turned colors – the little tree outside my office window was green two days ago, but is now about 99% orange and red. It’s very pretty. Of course, leaves falling means that a whole neighborhood’s worth of leaves falls in our yard; we’re surrounded by large trees, all on our neighbors’ properties, that deposit the majority of their leaves in our yard. So I fear that at least a few hours this weekend will be spent raking up leaves, if the rate they’re starting to fall is any indication. At least it’s a small yard!
I’m off to clean up – everyone have a lovely Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!
For the first time ever, we are not going anywhere for Thanksgiving and we aren’t having anyone over. I am making a full meal, prepped what I could yesterday and the turkey is now in the roaster. I can’t wait for it to be done! I’m sitting here sipping on my apple cider…mmmm…so good.
Other than eating I think we are just going to watch some movies and I might craft some. Looking forward to a relaxing day today.
w00t! I have finally heard back from work, after bothering and bothering. I should be getting my Record of Employment on the weekend or Monday. They (well, she. The boss’s wife, who handles some of the paperwork) apologized sincerely for the screwup, explained that she has gotten locked out of her computer (which I believe. The computers at work lead me to believe the owners are technologically under-advanced) and I do know that payroll has just been shifted around a lot and they fired the office admin a few weeks ago.
Anyway, this is an enormous relief. To have talked to someone who knows what’s going on!
And I’ve been eating chocolate covered popcorn. It’s highly recommended. So simple- make popcorn. Melt chocolate. Combine.
I’m going outside. I can’t stand this anymore. I think I’ve been cooped up, cleaning for too long as well.
It sounds like everyone is going to have a nice day (including me), and that is not a small thing. We’re all here and that’s nice.

Happy Thanksgiving, blah blah blah. I gotta run kids.
Evening all. Happy Thanksgiving once again to all those celebrating it today! I had a turkey and cheese roll (with wholegrain mustard and mayo) for lunch, in honour of the day!
FCM, can I just give you one word of caution (well, actually a few words …) about the free wedding photography. My brother and his wife had a friend do their wedding photos and they were useless (all very informal and no photos of the whole family on either side!), but when it’s a friend there’s nothing you can do or say. Wedding photos are one important, tangible memory of the big day, so just make sure that the wedding photographer is a proper professional with experience in doing wedding pictures.
Well, hubby has gone out for a while this evening (to bingo, actually - the only legal form of gambling around here) so I am home alone (HRH is upstairs asleep), Doping and watching Dances with Wolves on the TV. I forgot how good it actually was (I guess because Kevin Costner has made so many crappy movies since then, like Waterworld)!
Oky-doky, I think I might cruise the Dope some more, in between watching KC and his mates kick Pawnee butt!
FCM, what’s a Publix? Is it a grocery store?
Well, hopefully my hard work is over. The first annual Thanksgiving Breakfast was a success. Just got to TVMan’s house and dinner is in about 20 minutes. All that’s left for me is eating and hopefully pleasant or at least entertaining conversation. (You know, the kind where his mother complains about his long hair, his smoking habit, and other things of little importance. Good times.)
Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!
My upstairs neighbours have started vacuuming every day. Unless they have five sheepdogs it seems unecessary.
What kind of cheese does caramel cheese popcorn have in it?
Whew! Turkey is stuffed and in the oven. Giblets and neck are simmering on the stove. Sweet potato casserole is all made and ready to shove in the oven when the turkey is resting. Additional stuffing is prepped in dish also ready to throw in the oven while turkey is resting.
All that’s left is the cranberries for prep work. I’ll have to get going on the taters for mashed taters when the turkey is closer to being done. I’ve got some green beans to steam. After they’re done steaming, I’ll saute them up in some butter and herbs and seasonings. I’ll throw in whatever seems good.
I’m not sure if I’ll do the carrots. It seems I’ll have enough with all the other stuff anyway.
I still have to clean myself up, along with tidying up the house. I’ve been cleaning the kitchen as I go along so that won’t be such a big mess.
I need more caffeine!
Pies are out of the oven! And the upstairs smells gooooooood. I should have a snack or something, though, because I’m starving and the pigout isn’t until fourish, and it’s almost noon now.
Outside was great! It is really snowing here-large, fluffy flakes, but no accumulation. I tidied up a large bed and now am back to basting. Parents are here. Other guests arriving soon. Crazy time in the kitchen starts soon–I wish I had more than one oven.
Damn, I thought I posted this morning!
I’m not caught up, but I wanted to wish each and every one of you, and your families, too,
a wonderful Thanksgiving day. Yeah, even you furriners!
