I suspect your personal liking of him coloured your opinion to the positive but he didn’t do much that I saw to counter any negative impressions that he managed to create.
I, too, will go to bat for people who seem to be unfairly under attack, particularly if they aren’t very good at defending themselves but PRR was hardly a shrinking violet.

If the whole thing was supposed to expose prr as some kind of unscrupulous bastard, it doesn’t seem wise to assume that he would hold up his end of the bargain.

The deal with Liberal is fucked up. Like What Exit?, the whole thing seems awful to me. If you do a search of my posts, you’ll probably see the F-bomb all over the place, not just here. It doesn’t mean that much to me. It’s phatic communication after a fashion.
I understand this. I have never defended the way PRR attacked people in threads I haven’t read. No doubt he engendered a lot of ill-will. However, you can understand why I wouldn’t let that change how I feel about him based on the RL person.
Of course it did. I never denied that. But what better to color a person’s opinion of someone than how they treated them IRL? And what kind of a person would be I if I didn’t speak up for him because he is unpopular and a lot of people dislike him? A coward. Ditto if I didn’t speak up for Lissa. And I don’t think it’s that big a deal, though when people start throwing out words like “cunt” and accusing me of being a lesbian because of it, well, I just have to wonder about what their lives are like.
I have two young kids and I was a Navy Sailor. It takes an effort for me to avoid dropping F-bombs in normal conversation. I save them here for when I am really upset with someone. Not even Liberal has got me that upset. I do find a side effect of rarely cursing is that when I do, it has a lot more emphasis for those that do know me.
BTW: I am one of those hopefully non-morons who would never take $500 to go away. I see from the related thread, I have some very good company.

I wouldn’t take five bill to quit posting here either because I don’t need the money. Getting to post here amuses me and other places don’t amuse me nearly as much. There was a time that I would have gladly taken the money but that was when I was a starving student back before the days of the web.

I’m not saying $500 is pocket change to me. It’s about a week’s wages, actually. The way I see it, I could take Liberal’s offer, give up something I really enjoy, and have $500. Or I could refuse it, continue to do something I really enjoy, and in a week, I’d have $500 anyway.
Okay, the math isn’t quite that straightforward, because a good chunk of that $500 is earmarked for rent, utilities, food, hookers, and other necessities. But the principle is that I’d be giving up something I value (the Dope) forever, in exchange for something that I’m already guaranteed to get eventually if I’m patient (more money). It seems like a pretty easy choice, looked at from that direction.
I don’t think paying someone to leave a message board threatens the integrity of the board. But anyone who would do so is taking this internet message board thing way too seriously, and is in desperate need of a hug and a hobby. It’s pathetic.

First, as I stated, I’m perfectly fine with the deal struck be PRR and** Liberal**. It’s capitalism in action, a beautiful thing. But Liberal, and those of you who disliked** PRR**, how would you like to really get him good? How? Pay me $10,000 to go away forever. Now I don’t think I’ve ever crossed swords with you, Liberal, and I enjoy reading your contributions, so this might seema a bit steep. And it is, at first glance. That’s where all the other posters who don’t like** PRR** come in. They can all contribute to making him feel like he got taken like a sucker.
Then there all the posters who detest me and have asked me to go away. It is my impression that while PRR pissed people off in one or two areas, I’ve pissed off more people in more areas. Therefore, if you would all pool your resources with Liberal we’d have another win-win deal. Make that, win-win-win. Possibly for just a few bucks per poster!
I agree with you and Jim. I think the whole thing was in pretty poor taste. For a message board that people seem to pride themselves and post about being somewhat better educated and more intelligent than other boards the whole thing was tacky. Your debating and pitting skills really have to be lacking to have to resort to paying someone not to post. I did wish prr posted about something other than religion because in spite of being sort of obsessed with the topic, he seemed like an interesting guy.
