Still freakin’ cold. I really hope it improves by tomorrow, because I have some heavy-duty running around to do this weekend, and I’m not particularly keen about doing it in quasi-arctic temperatures. Hmph.
{{Rebo}} Hope the specialist can find an alternative for you.
{{snowbunny}} Seriously? SERIOUSLY? I’d have snapped that woman’s hand off, PMS or no PMS. Some people are so poorly socialised they probably shouldn’t be allowed out of the house.
rosie, isn’t that the only difference, really? The rest of the stuff stems from the fundamental disagreement about the Messiah… and really, the clothes, the food, the holidays and the whole shebang are really just window dressing for the central tenets of the faith. (That said, the whole premise behind Jews for Jesus makes my brain explode)
Time for bed. Assuming I can drag The Boy away from work by convincing him that it’ll still be there in the morning.
Yeppers, seriously. I mean, I know I’m unusually short and all, but I was using an insult I do not use about her to my cat when I came home. I wish I’d cussed her out. My coworkers were all suitably horrified which helped.
The moon is amazing tonight! It’s so bright it’s washing out most of the stars – and the stars here are also incredible when it’s really dark. Took me a few nights to figure out what that big stripey thing across the sky was and all, I don’t remember ever seeing that before, and if I had certainly not at my own house! That “moonlight” you see on TV and in movies? It actually exists. For tonight, anyway. Too pretty. I went outside to admire everything for a few minutes but came in before I got cold. I could go out there and read if I felt like it. Wow.
As far as I and a Jewish coworker could determine, that was the biggest theological point. Every other difference stems either from that (from example the Trinity) or from “historical reasons” (anything under the heading Canonical Law). A Hindu coworker asked us to tell her about our religions, and we looked at each other and said “well, we’re basically the same religion, we believe in the same God: the difference is, Jews reckon this important figure called the Messiah hasn’t come yet and Christians reckon he has. The rest is all details.”
You can write down a list of differences, but it’s a bit like “what’s the difference between an American and a Spaniard.” In the end, it boils down to “the passport.”
Snowbunny, don’t try to explain to Dio that being patted on the head is inappropriate. Just don’t. I’ve been known to cut out a friendship because the guy kept patting me after I’d told him to stop (first I asked politely, then I ordered, then he still would do it, then I stopped talking to him altogether), though. It’s demeaning, I don’t even do it to little kids!
Hope that snow isn’t too bad, BBBBobbio; I’m thinking of my cousins and all down there, some of them are elderly too. At any rate, thinking positive thoughts.
Up and caffeinating; I’m making a crock pot of Boston baked beans again, since the other batch turned out so tasty. I’m also making some BBQ ribs, which I am cooking low and slow in the oven, with a rub on em. I’m hoping they’ll come out okay–I’m attempting to do smoker style, without a smoker. We’ll see what happens. Hopefully there will be some good eatin’ tonight.
Geeze, SnowBunny, that person needs a good smack upside the haid. Hope kitteh provided some nice comforting for ya.
Good thoughts going out to Rebo too, for help with the diabetes.
That’s all I got … I guess I need more caffeine! LOL
Good morning everyone. I’m up because I couldn’t sleep anymore. My back was killing me!
I had a headache for most of yesterday, and by about 3:00 in the afternoon, I was starting to feel sick to my stomach. I tried to soldier on, and prepared Death Chicken for dinner. Unfortunately, I couldn’t eat it. By the time I took it out of the oven, I had run to the bathroom twice to upchuck.
So I waited for the Death Chicken to finish and took it out of the oven and went upstairs to bed. I didn’t get to stay in bed for quite some time, but eventually the tummy settled. The head, unfortunately, didn’t. At any rate, I finally fell asleep. From midnight on, though, I kept waking up because of my back (I had been bed for about six hours at this point). I tried sleeping, but it wasn’t happening, so I got up at 4:00 am…on a Saturday…when I don’t have to get up.
I’m still not feeling great, but I’m hoping that getting something to eat will help. Unfortunately, nothing sounds good right now.
kopek, sending good thoughts to you and your family.
rebo, sending good thoughts to you too.
For all of you having to deal with yet more snow, I hope it stops falling and the roads clear quickly.
Hope you’re feeling better in short order, Taters. That’s so unfair.
snowbunny, there are no words. Really.
I’d suggest a good patting on the head. Daily. For life. How can people be so dumb? (OK, so there *were *words…)
Hope they can find an easier way to manage the diabetes, Rebo. Hugs.
Glad Mr. Lissar is better, LiLi.
Forgot to say I loved the confirmation class story,** Ruble**. And the subsequent comments, Muppet and Nava.
Go rosie! Have a fun date!
Up fairly early, putting together some bread pudding from the chocolate babka that we bought the other day. Really didn’t like it by itself, but I thought it might make good bread pudding. I’m adding rum-soaked raisins and cherries. Hoping it’s not a waste of ingredients. Had to add some additional raisin bread to up the bread-to-chocolate ratio (who’d have thought you could have too much chocolate?). I’ll report the results.
Also, I need to get organized. I’d like to get my taxes done this weekend. I’m pretty sure I have everything I need to do that (got my W-2s yesterday). And there’s laundry. And further dust removal an de-junking.
Doggies woke me up at 6:30, and when I took them out, I think I saw 5 flakes drifting down. After cleaning the pee from the dining room carpet (Scruffy couldn’t hold it… ) I suggested to **FCD **that if we wanted to go see the contractor’s work, we needed to get going. By 7:30, the driveway was white and the roads were starting to get slippery.
We went to Denny’s, then found the houses we wanted to look at. It was coming down pretty well by then, so we headed back home. On the way, we saw a large commercial truck sitting sideways in the northbound lanes of MD5 as we drove south. A little farther on, a car in the median. We slipped a few times, but drove very gently. There were times when we could barely see 30’ ahead. But I did see a car that misjudged the road and was straddling a curb.
We only just got up the little rise at the start of our driveway. The car is safely in the garage and we’re inside, watching the evil white stuff accumulate. There’s got to be at least 2" so far, and we’re being promised 5-10" before it stops at 4AM. It’s very dry and light (I had to shovel a little to take the dogs out) but it’s piling up fast. Needless to say, we ain’t goin’ nowhere!
The kids brought their friend TJ over - so there won’t be any leftover meatloaf tonight for sure. I’ve got stuff to do, and I’ll eventually get to it. Plus knitting. Not a lot gonna happen today tho.
Stoopit snow.
I’ve not been patted on the head, but I hate when people call me “young lady” - I’m 56, dammit! Don’t patronize me - it’s not flattering. It’s insulting.
Easy day for me today - just laundry and cooking. It’s a good thing, I can hardly move from sore muscles!
You people with snow - stay warm and dry and safe! It’s chilly here, but no snow of course. We’re supposed to have a chance of rain every day next week, though. Chilly rain sux, too.
Evening all. Sitting in the lounge in Dubai airport, 1 hour into my 5 hour transit before my 16 hours to Brisbane via Singapore. I feel exhausted just thinking about it, and my knees already have that sensory memory of not being able to fully extend and flex.Departure is at 2.45am local time. Envy me.
Here’s hoping you have a safe journey, Dotty. I also hope there’s a good outcome for the purpose of your visit.
I’ve managed to get some laundry going and I’ve taken out the garbage. I’m going to start on the kitchen now, because my son didn’t do it. What a disaster it is too. It’s driving me nuts. I shouldn’t have to beg for what obviously needs to be done on a daily basis. Fat lot of good it did me…
It’s still rainy and dreary here. Nothing new for the PNW in January.
