I just got back from lunch, and before lunch I had sent out a couple of replies to threads I was interested in. I was composing them as I got time throught the day and put finishing touches on them right before lunch. I get back now and see that one of them didn’t make it due to a rule about there being a 60 second minimum between posts. I re-read the FAQ and, like I remembered, there was no mention of this limit. I don’t have a problem with it, I understand it is to stop flooding by a malicious poster, but I figured I would request it be part of the FAQ. Anyone else think so?
I agree that it doesn’t come up very often, but “Are there any length/time restrictions on my posts” would be important info IMHO.
I don’t think it would have been such a big deal, but after seeing the screen which informed me of this “feature” I tried to go back to my composition and re-submit it, but all my text was gone. This may be because of the browser I use, a result of the long time between when I got that message and when I tried to go back(over an hour), or some quirk of the board. All I know is that it sucked to lose one of the replies I had spent time composing and if the limit of 60 seconds between posts had been part of the FAQ I would not have lost it. Perhaps change the “submit” to “preview” with the warning at the top if it has been less than 60 seconds since the last submit?
Yeah, it sucks to lose a carefully composed reply, but think of it this way:
Today…you are a Doper.
Welcome to the Club!
…and, if you ever get the Flood Control screen again, while you’re sitting there, and you’ve got Internet Explorer for your browser, use the Back button up on the Toolbar to back out from the “Sorry” screen, and your reply oughta still be there in the window.
