I have 2 dog stories to share. First up, last night we came up from dinner, and I found Kona surrounded by bars of Zest soap. I had just bought a multi-pack, and left it in the bathroom. He decided to try soap. He unwrapped and tasted 5 bars, each one slightly less gnawed on than the one before it. I can just picture him,
Bar the first - all the way out of the wrapper, some good hunks out of it, spit out onto the floor - “yuck, that’s horrid”.
Bar the second - all the way out of the wrapper, some scrape marks - “still disgusting - next!”
Bar the third - all the out of the wrapper, barely touched - “blech - next!”
Bar the fourth - only the end of the package is opened “I’ll just take a nibble - ptui - this is the worst people food ever! Maybe this next one…”
Bar the fifth - barely opened, one tiny tooth mark “fine, I give up”
Not the brightest bulb, is Kona. Most of us figure out after just one taste that soap is not for eating.
The other not as fun dog story is about Pooka Bear. He developed bloat this morning. I took him to the vet straight away. We caught it early, so they were able to get a tube down into his stomach before it twisted completely. He’s staying overnight, and we’ll see where things are tomorrow. Poor pup. He’s heavily sedated, so he’s not in pain.
Glad you’re having fun in Edinburgh WetOne! I’m very jealous. Have you been up to the castle yet?
For supper tonight, I decided to try the Chicken Alfredo Chicken Helper (from the folks who bring you Hamburger Helper) and I dumped a bag of peas-n-carrots in. It wasn’t bad, but a double batch required FIVE CUPS of milk! Whew!
The rest of the evening is for chillage. I slept pretty well last night, and I’m hoping for more of the same tonight.
spidey, depending upon the weekend and the meal, either/or.
swampy, does your float have a ducky head? And you’re gay?!?!
{{{Pooka}}}
wet one, the closest I’ve come to Scotland was a layover at Heathrow and a couple of business trips to Cork.
Irk was irksome. Floors are vaccuumed, laundry in the dryer and leftover salmon patties, quinoa with spinach and mushrooms and Asian cucumber salad. This meal doesn’t freeze well, so I will be eating it for the week.
{{{Pooka}}} feel better soonest sweet baby! Kona we just lurves ya for who ya are!
I now want, nay, NEED a pool float with a ducky head!
In other news, I just edited a Wikipedia article for the first time. Go Me! It’s an article about GA Hwy 100, a highway near and dear to my heart. There is a spur that goes around Tallapoosa, Jawja (it’s almost a mile long even!). Anywho the article stated Tallapoosa is located in Early County. I was appalled! Everybody knows Tallapoosa is located in Haralson County! So I fixed that. Now people won’t get confused when they need to travel the Ga Highway 100 spur around Tallapoosa. No need to thank me. I’m glad I could clear up the confusion.
and almost all of the “helpers” use milk now …. even the tomato sauce based ones need milk my aunt loves the “lasagna” one but she didn’t notice the change years ago and couldn’t figure out why it tasted weird when she made it ..
Well the old version used water the "new and improved " one used milk and she asked whyd they change it , I said the same reason a lot of people (like her ) put milk in tomato soup instead of water …. she goes " yeah I can see that " …
Hubby is still irking. He and his cohort are working on a cooler in a restaurant and it is only one they have. Refrigeration is fickle and in the 34 years I have been with this man I have told him there is no money in it. He just likes working on it I guess.
I had leftovers. Tried to start a load of laundry but the knob will not engage to start it. Hubs can rig it again. While I was having supper there was a knock on the door. It was a fisherman we know bringing tuna, snapper and I think he said Kingfish. I shall feast upon some raw tuna tomorrow.
I gave Louie a bath before all that. I am tahred. Please let sleep happen tonight.
Evening all. Been home since about noon, but catching up a few things about the house and general ennui kept me from posting earlier. Sounds like everyone (except for Pooka) is doing well.
Spent the weekend refereeing a soccer Tournament in Charlotte, NC (first time there). Several observations:
Hydroplaning in your car at 60MPH at 7AM will WAKE YOU THE F*** UP!! No damage, I got control before it went anywhere outside the lane, but it was a rather long and exciting two seconds.
I still can referee good at my ‘advanced’ age. Four Centers, two Assistant jobs in 34 hours and I gave myself nothing lower than a ‘B’ grade for any of them. Couple mildly controversial calls (well, the fans and coaches thought they were, but I’m happy with them) but I stayed with the players, including the 12U kids.
Charlotte is a nice-looking city, I wish I had had more time to explore, and there are several Revolutionary War battlefields in N/S Carolina I’d like to go see sometime. At least it isn’t just an airport anymore (and the soccer fields were in beautiful shape–except for the 90-minute Thunderstorm on Saturday that left us with standing water and very messy shoes (hopefully the hotel will forgive me)).
I discovered today that I can drive for 8 hours non-stop on 5 hours sleep with a 20 oz. bottle of Mountain Dew and a bag of Lay’s Potato chips to sustain me. However, getting out of the car and walking to the door upon arrival home was not pleasant.
If Dante Alighieri was writing "The Inferno’ today, Atlanta traffic would be one of the circles of Hell.
But I am back, so tomorrow I’ll be paying bills, move money about my accounts, entertain another home remodeler, and think about mowing the lawn (only thinking; probably will mow Wednesday or Thursday).
And now I think I will be off to bed. 18 hours awake + 450 miles of driving = sleepy time.
**FCD **got up at 4:30 and hit the shower. So I’ve been up that long, in addition to various wakes during the night. Why would I dream of being in a flat bottom boat in a river full of hippos?? Even in the dream, I remember thinking “Hippos aren’t from around here!”
It’s a gloriously cool morning - dropped into the 50s overnight. It’s going to be a gorgeous day, so here I am, stuck in a windowless office. Life is so unfair!! <Pose of woe and despair>
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work. Laundry after work. Vegas lost again last night.
[Queen]Are you gonna take me home tonight
Ah down beside that red firelight
Are you gonna let it all float out
Flat bottomed boats
You make the hippo world go round[/Queen]
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 63 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 88 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The big plan today is laundry. I foresee quality cee-mint pond time as well. Since we shall sup on leftovers, that will be easy.
Welcome back MetalMouse. Glad you had a good trip even with the excitatement of a hydroplane. Charlotte is a nice city. It was a really grungy place in the 60s but since then it’s become a nice place. I shall need to accomplish mowage at some point as well, maybe Thursday. A pool party for a group of special needs kids is happenin’ on Sattidy. This is a group that a friend’s granddaughter is a part of. They are also The Mighty Yard Goats kickball team. They’ll be here a couple hours and have a blast.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day. Rah.
Dropped my daughter off at school today and remembered that tomorrow is her last day of school for the year. Man, did that year fly. My son wasn’t even walking on his own when she started the school year, and now he runs and climbs and gets into EVERYTHING. She could barely draw a few shapes and write her own name, and now she’s drawing, writing, spelling, reading… where are my babies going?
**Juliet **- imagine how I felt when my baby squeezed out a baby of her own!! OK, she’s 32, so it’s not that big a deal, but where did those 32 years go??? I remember dropping her off at day care the first time, feeling like I was a terrible mother for going to work. And now she’ll be getting her revenge by going to work herself and leaving me with a squalling, puking, pooping infant!! Circle of life and all that…
