blurfage Slept a solid 8 hours last night, thank goodness. Here at irk. Coffee on board. Whatever will I get into today?

Akchurly, you generally can plug in a shaver in a UK bathroom, that’s the one exception, but they have these specialised plugs which have extra extra safety measures on. The one in my bathroom actually doesn’t work, but I don’t have sufficient beard for that to be an issue.

Reminds me of one of my favourite job hunting tips from my Dad- if going for an interview, it’s good to look neat, but not to go in early and shave in their bathroom, leaving hair everywhere. Especially when the person giving the interview is also the person who cleans the bathrooms… :smack:

Speakin’ of cleaning, I’m now irking an extra day tomorrow. I have a sneaky feeling that this loooong 3 month gap is going to get filled up pretty fast. Got a beekeepin’ meet tonight, irk in the morning, helping at the beekeepin’ stall at a show on Thursday, irkin’ Friday… and that’s without starting a new job.

Also trying to arrange to start next year’s research project early, and trying to sneak in a week or so’s irk experience with a company I find interesting.

Though I would have done it more like this:

♪ Easy come, easy go, will you let me dream?
Hip-pot-mus! No, we will invade your dream. (Let her dream!)
Hip-pot-mus! We will invade your dream. (Let her dream!)
Hip-pot-mus! We will invade your dream. (Let Mooommm dream!)
Will invade your dream. (Let Mooommm dream!)
Will invade your dream (Invade, invade, invade, invade your dream)
Oh oh oh oh
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
Oh, Mooooo-oommmm, Mooooo-oommmm (Mooooo-oommmm, let her dream.)
Carniv’rous Plant is a devil put aside for me, for me, for me.

Why not let The Mighty Yard Goats take care of shortening the grass whenst they come on Sattidy? You said they are a group of kids, right?

Take a Doper with you. BeepKillBeep, beekeeper…& tongue twister.

I would discuss the electrical stuff but I just ain’t charged up yet today; I just don’t have the power.

I used to attend a rather unusual winter Highland Games every year as an official unofficial French judge – this was an event for re-enactors and everyone was in 1750s kit. The most coveted trophy every year was the inflatable “love-ewe” awarded to whoever could spit a piece of haggis the furthest. I have had fresh and well-preparred haggis and it isn’t terrible -------- but the stuff for the contest was canned and really easy to spit some amazing distances.

A friend in college -------- his dad was a full-blooded Scot and a rabbi. The fact that we all three survived the resulting jokes speaks volumes as towards our friendship. I wish I had a recording of him with his full brogue talking Yiddish so badly that it makes me almost wish for that time machine. Great guy and a terrific family.

I prefer:

[Electric Amish]Ohhhh you gonna paint that barn tonight
Ohhhh down beside der lantern light
Ohhh you gonna finish all your chores
Black bonnet girls
You make the Amish world go round[/Electric Amish]

Hey, take all that music over to the proper thread: https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=833415

Bills paid, Bank CD closed and funding moved, and I also voted in the primary election today in Ali-bama. They had ‘new’ technology to read your driver’s license and find the info on you (I should have been mean and taken my passport…). Still need to do a little grocery shopping, just enough to get me from now through the 20th of June. List has been made and shopping will take place after the remodeler guy drops by.

Still tired from the weekend’s exertions, so it’ll be an early night again tonight.

Ruble:

Always with the negative waves, Ruble!

Have a good party, swampy. And the Mighty Yard Goats is a great name.

Butters, feast upon Raw Tuna? Really?

Happy Toosday!

It’s another beautiful day although I hear it’s supposed to rain.

I woke too early, tried to go back to sleep but Ripple wan’t haven’t any of that.
I fixed some breakfast for us, then he was ready to nap

{{{Pooka}}}

Got cloudy out and a bit breezy so I ended quality cee-mint pond time. Laundry is all done and put away, so go me! Since sup will be put stuff on a plate and nuke it, I shall peruse teh intartoobz for a while.

Just had one of those meetings at work that make you wonder, “why am I even here? I’m not needed.” Two hours of me trying not to sleep, wishing I had topped off my coffee before I went in. It’s 72 and sunny on top of it. Why am I here, doing nothing, when I could be doing nothing in this gorgeous weather?

For future reference, evening beekeepin’ meets when there isn’t a nectar flow on (not much in flower), and the weather’s questionable are a Bad Idea. All of those factors make them more aggressive, and they just wouldn’t stop trying to sting. I got got 4 or 5 times, through my jeans and through my socks, and they were even following us all back to the car at the end… I wound up giving up and hiding in the shed, because I needed to ask for directions for the show on Thursday, and the lady leading the session was the one who’s running the stall at the show, so I had to wait til she’d finished.

I go lightweight with kit, because the extra protection isn’t normally worth the extra heat (them full suits are hot in the sun) and messin’ about, but it would have been worth it today.

Ow.

Howdy Y’all! We have supped plus earlier I had a visit from Nicki, one of The Mighty Yard Goats. Her grandmother (a good friend) called me and said Nicki wanted to come see me. I felt so honored!
ETA: First on Two! NEENER! NEENER! NEENER! Spidey

I have a vision of dozens of beekeepers hiding in small buildings with hordes of bees attacking them screaming “No taxation without representation!” or something like that.

I was thinking more like

Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A big herd of hippos goes by

Irk was irksome. They finally got the grass cut here at home. There were places where I could only see Nelson’s ears when I took him out to do his business.

Had the home remodeler in, got a few more ideas on how he’d do it, but of the 4 folks I’ve had visit, One gave me an estimate that day, another gave me an estimate after 10 days, a third said it was (within plus or minus 5% of my budget and this one wouldn’t be committed, as he needed to see what materials I picked out and get with his contractors. All of them have a long history and good BBB ratings, so I’m more confused than when I started the visits. I’ll eventually pick one and we’ll see what I get.

Grocery shopping is complete so now I’ve got to finish it up by the 20th of June.

Red, my lawn is looking rather thick too. Mowage is going to be tomorrow or Thorsday (maybe the front tomorrow and the back the next day?).

Juliet, I worked for the US Army (civilian) for 34 years; I know what you mean about meetings where the minutes are kept but the hours are lost.

Internetting and some reading is in store but I think it will be another early night for me.

So far as DH and I can tell, there’s nothing at all unusual about the ceiling fan in the living room. It’s the same one that’s been here the whole time we’ve been in this apartment.

So why did the Princess spend a lot of time this morning, while I was trying to get booted up enough to get to irk, staring at it and getting VERY vocal? (For the new arrivals, the Princess is my Siamese mix cat, Allie.)

Cats are very weird people.

Worked, laundered, napped. Made Italaian chicken with three cheese rice and spinach.

The Invisible Mole People.
: holds up lighter to the Mumper songwriters :

Gonna try for some sleep. Night all.

At a guess? A bug got in there and was flapping its little wings or skittering around.

Pooka came home tonight. He clearly feels unwell, but he insisted on coming upstairs to his bed (with a few stops to rest). He went to his spot and is sleeping. I’m glad to have him back, and now we’ll just be treating him a bit like a puppy: lots of little meals, some little short walks, and maybe some lazy sunshine.

Not sure I’ve retained everything, so hugs and well wishes to everyone.

Greetings from Scotland! Yesterday we went on a bus tour of Loch Lomond and Stirling Castle. Lots of walking, including a “ramble uphill of about 4 minutes”(according to our guide )that was the equivalent of 12 flights of stairs straight up. It was worse coming down. But the views were worth it. Today is high tea, and believe me, my pinkie will be extended.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and clear (really, I looked out and could see the stars twinklin’ in the skies) with a predicted high of 87 and mostly N.O.S. I shall lay in provisions today. There’s a deal on shrimpies so we shall sup upon shrimpies 'n grits, sallit, and some other vegetation TBD. Quality cee-mint pond time is also foreseen.

wetone since you are representin’ us Mumpers, here’s you some tea etiquette so you can be all couth and suave.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then since I am forced, forced I say, to go about the public I suppose I must purtify and put on adult clothin’. Bother!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!
