Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis <snerk> 69! <snerk> Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 90 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. A nice day for THE MIGHTY YARD GOATS poolside soiree. I went out and turned the pump on when I got up (it’s on a timer and usually comes on at ten a.m., but I wanted it to go ahead and start runnin’ this mornin’). In a little while I shall run the cleaner. The cee-mint pond must look it’s best today. Obviously this is the big item on today’s agenda.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I shall purtify and await the invasion of THE MIGHTY YARD GOATS.
So much for sleeping in again. I played with my tablet for a couple of hours, and got up just before 7. Critters have been tended to, and deviled eggs are ready for assembly at the party. I just finished breakfasting, and I need to clean the critter fountain. Then I’ll shower and dress for the festivities.
Various websites are calling for 60-80% chance of rain, but so far, there’s nothing on radar. Here’s hoping it holds off till late afternoon. The Taylors spend a bunch to put on this picnic for the employees, including a petting zoo, a chartered boat, lifeguards, catered meats, ice cream truck, face painting… they really do it up right, and all they ask is for employees to bring appetizers or desserts. So fingers crossed for no t-boomers!!
Tomorrow, I’m thinking we’ll be having a family meeting to lay some ground rules for the kids. You’d think 30+ y/o parents would be a bit more inclined to be part of the family rather than leave everything to us. So that’s about to be addressed.
I think the extra piece is put there on purpose to drive you crazy thinking you did something wrong.
Manufacturers are teh evil.
Ripple is exceedingly happy this morning, I made him an omelet for breakfast. That dog luvs his omelets.
I am a bit disappointed in a group I joined on FB. It is a Shar Pei health group and I thought I might learn something useful. Then I found out they are anti-vaxxers. They were telling some woman to not get her dog a rabies vaccine, even though she lives by the woods and it’s against the law to not vaccinate for rabies where she lives. I don’t know what state she lives in and what the law is, but in MD if your dog bites somebody and it is not vaccinated, then it is tested for rabies. Which means your dog is put down and it’s head removed.
Stupid people get on my nerves.
When I was pet sitting the one vaccine I insisted on was a rabies vaccine, for all mammals. If I was ever bitten I didn’t want to be put in a position where I had to choose between my health and having an animal put down. I insisted on Parvo too for the dogs because it is so contagious and you can carry it on your clothes.
Methinks Ripple may be a teesy-weensy bit spoiled…
I took Roxy for a walk around the front yard this morning. I know her vision is still developing, but I figured she might enjoy the lilies and the magnolia, especially since I had her within touching distance of them. So we had some quality time together. And I changed her diaper, which was less about quality time and more about quality of life.
We’ll be leaving in 30 minutes or so. The sun is out, sorta - kinda hazy. But so far, no rain, so yay! We’ll see what develops later.
**FCD **went by the dollar store and got a nice big plastic tray for the eggs. If I don’t get it back, it’s no biggie, since it only cost $2. It should hold all the eggs just fine. I hope. SIL is still sick, so he’ll stay home and tend to the critters while we’re gone. There’s one less worry.
It is marked “Self Destruct Containment Device”. Useless stuff.
Mrs. Plant (v.2.0) is a dog person and anti-vaxxer. I wonder if the two often go together.
I was bitten by a raccoon twenty years ago, and took the rabies vaccination. When last tested I am still immune to rabies. Not that I want to go out into the woods and wrestle coons and foxes.
From my experience pet sitting, most animal lovers I know take excellent care of their pets and do everything to keep them healthy. If I am ever reincarnated I’d love to come back as one of their pets.
Have fun at the picnic FCM, enjoy the baby bonding time.
Ripple is a bit spoiled, also a bit disappointed because he didn’t get to go out front while Sah-son was weed-whacking. He wouldn’t get dressed and he is not allowed to go out front when he is naked.
Sari, wait, what, who exactly was naked in that last sentence?
And anti-vaccers, be it for humans or animals, are not my favorite people (this is not the pit, so I’ll restrain myself). Bet if you tried to educate them they would either ignore you or kick you out. Be looking for an alternative site with sensible people, IMHO.
FCGM, hope the day is fun and without stormy weather.
Red, y’all get down this way sometime, dinner is on me. And good team name.
Slept in until 10Am today; not planned, I got up to micturate about 5am, went back to bed and guess my body wasn’t in any hurry today.
So apparently swarms are like buses, you wait ages for one then two come along at once… The guy who runs the allotment site messaged me on facebook (apparently the new place to get bees, who knew?) saying there was a swarm outside his son’s shop in the neighbouring town, did I want 'em?
Sadly I had to pass, and put them on to someone else, as I don’t have enough kit to deal with two in two days… My swarm box is still full of swarm. I’m leaving them be for a few days to settle in, there’s a risk if I move them into the full size hive before they’ve started laying eggs, they’ll decide the neighbourhood is too disruptive and leave.
I swear the little guys know the county show’s on, and half the serious local beekeepers are busy organising the honey tent there.
Not been up to much else, I have a weekend off, before starting at this pub on Moanday. I’m also a little limited on where I can go due to the show traffic clogging up half the roads. It only lasts one more day though.
doggio, that would have been the Wisconsin grandfather, no?
Have fun with the MIGHTY YARD GOATS swampy.
sari, Nelson gets the occasional scrambled egg. I didn’t take him to the dog park until his third round of puppy shot were complete and the groomer who trims his nails requires a copy of his rabies vaccine (current) be on file before he even goes into the grooming rooms.
metal mouse, I will difinitely give you a holler when I go down. It would be fun to meet someone for a game and meal. Should you come up to a Sounds game, give me a ping and I will do the same.
The car’s oil is changed, tahrs rotated, outside washed, inside vaccuumed, towels in the wash and the puppy crate cleaned. I’s tahred and taking a break before making slaw to go with the sweet potato, black bean enchiladas (made yesterday, goes in the oven for 45 minutes today) for supper. Then it’s putting up the tikis (yeah, I don’t have that done yet), making a father’s day card for Dad and doing more organizing / cleaning out the studio. Bizzy day.
Back from the picnic. It POURED like the proverbial cow peeing on a flat rock. Daughter, Roxy, and I took shelter under a tent, but **FCD **was walking around schmoozing. We gave up and left around 2:30, and not 5 miles up the road, it was dry and sunny. Seems a nasty storm cell settled over the place. Dammit.
And, of course, I’d left my car window open because when we arrived, it was sunny and hot. The seat got wet, but it could have been worse - the wind was blowing from the other side of the car. It’s hot in the garage, so it should dry out overnight. I hope.
Roxy loved being outside - she was looking at everything! I was surprised how long she stayed awake.
Anyway, I’m in dry clothes, about to assume the recline position with the TV clicker.
Howdy Y’all! THE MIGHTY YARD GOATS poolside soiree was a success! Thunder started just as it was time to get out of the cee-mint pond for snacks, cake, and ice cream, so good timin’ there. I posted some pictures over on my book of face page if’n anyone wants to see what all went down. Rainy and stormy now which is fine cause we’re all inside and tahrd. Any eatin’ will be via forage. Again, we’s tahrd, tahrd, I say!
Why not? I am a short, Caucasian instrumentation engineer, I will readily acknowledge that some short people, some Caucasians and some engineers are nuts.
Now that is darned important.
If Mom says, “I dunno, Kraft”, I will give up coasters for life.
Feeling so depressed and full of anxiety. I have to make a decision that might possibly break a friendship, or break a bunch of other friendships, or possibly both. And it’s a situation so sticky that even doing nothing could get me into difficulty.
There’s someone I feel I should contact about the situation. Which could go wrong in all sorts of ways, but I sort of feel it’s the best thing to do. So I hope to get in touch with him in the next little while, but none of it is going to be easy.
Nowhere else to vent this, so I’m putting it here.
And here I am, feeling good that I successfully installed a radio/cd player in the “new” truck…I don’t have that many close friends where I could cause or cure problems. I don’t know what to say except do as you think best.
