Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin and very muggy out with a predicted high of 89 and sunny for the day. Plus humid. I shall spend the day in the orifice dealin’ with files and such. Rah. However 'tis my Firday so there’s that.
giggity dang!
OK, that’s all I got for now. I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, alas and alack irk purtification must commence.
Morning, mumpers! It’s a somewhat overcast day on my side of the Great Divide, although the weather lady this morning assured me it would get better for the weekend.
Giggity, sounds like you live in the same kind of place I do. We once had the police round in the early hours because our extremely drunk Latvian neighbour was asleep on our front drive. They’d been called by someone walking past the house with their dog who’d seen him, and the police wanted to be sure that he was alive, and that he hadn’t tried to break into either the house or the car.
I got to work early intending to do a whole host of things before the rest of the campus woke up but instead, I’d just turned the 'pooter on and made a cup of tea when the fire alarm went off. They’d already done the weekly alarm test so we had to troop outside and hang around until someone from campus security came to check on the building and make sure we weren’t all burnt to a crisp. Naturally I took my drink with me, no chance of me leaving that to get cold. Now I am behind again as I’ve got three meetings today, and I still haven’t written up my notes from yesterday’s meetings. Bah!
I’m in the office with a Nyquil hangover. The coughing is starting again, but I brought a couple of (generic) Dayquil capsules to keep me from hacking up a lung. If I didn’t need my leave to take **FCD **to the hospital on Tues, I’d have stayed home today.
The trick will be staying alert enough to do something productive. And not running out of tissues. I’m pretty sure this is going to be a long-ass day…
Today has started off weird. Tomorrow is payday, and our direct deposits normally are processed the day before. But when I checked the account balance, it seemed too low, so I looked at the transactions.
There’s a deposit for something over $1300 from PAE - the company I left in March! Of course, direct deposits have no explanations - the money just magically appears. I’m not aware of PAE owing me anything, and other than needing to move my 401k from there to my current employer, I’ve severed all ties with them.
Gigity, that is the advantage of having an insane Boxer that barks at the flies on the screen; everyone knows where the loudmouthed dog lives and leaves us alone. Saves me the trouble of making holes in drunken idiots then having to treat the wounds I just made because of the EMT Code.
Can’t believe my coughing has been minimal today! I haven’t had to touch my Dayquil, which is good. I still feel a bit hung-over - I expect I’ll sleep with Mel tonight.
Meanwhile, I’ve ingested lunch and in a little bit, I’ll get back to work - boss-man gave me a few more things to do. Four hours to go…
I had surgery on my busted ankle yesterday. I had a plate and six screws installed on my broken fibula. I walked around on a busted ankle for over a week. The surgery went well. At least I didn’t wake up vomiting. I am boed because all I can do is lie around for now. Hell, I can’t even get me some coffee because I can’t use crutches and carry a coffee mug at the same time.
I get a new cast on Tuesday. Right now my right leg is numb from the knee down because the anesthesiologist put some kind of numbing agent down my sciatic nerve guided by an ultrasound. Because foot and legs are numb I have to be super careful about accidently putting weight on it and causing further damage. I opted to go this way so I don’t have count on narcotic pain killers. Most of them make me sick.
2gig, that reminds me of when I lived in the barrio. My dad sat slack jawed one morning at my breakfast table when there were gunshots very nearby and I calmly picked up the phone and placed a call to 911 to report them. He really began bugging me to move at that point.
{{{taters}}} Welcome to the Metal Body Parts Club ™. We’re a real hoot at airports. While you’re on crutches, you might want to break out the travel mug and kludge some Velcro to it and a crutch to attain full caffeination.
I now have AC! When I got home yesterday, they had replaced my wall unit with a new one that is much quieter. Yay!
Well, truthfully, the only thing artistic about me is I draw flies. Takin’ a productivity break. I hate the fact that I have to maintain paper files as well as electronic files, but the current paper files are lookin’ good, so there’s that. Still stoopid that I have to maintain 'em however. Assistant has been convinced to apply for my soon to be vacant position. I have dropped several major hints to TPTB about what a great idea it would be to hire her. Seriously, someone who can pretty much already do it all. What better candidate could one want.
{{{Taters}}} like I said on fb, take this opportunity to be Supreme Empress, whose every desire, wish, and whim must be catered to immediately.
I am going the long multi-quote route, because I am very behind this week. Taters link for you at the end!
In all seriousness, just ignore him. It sounds like he’s just a scaredy cat. He may or may not ever warm up to you. My scaredy cat has taken 5 years. She now climbs in my lap. Oddly, I might suggest another cat might help. One that shows by example that you don’t eat cats. You may not want to go that far.
Congratulations!!!
Fingers and all appendages crossed Nettie!
Well, you made me laugh.
Best wishes to RT.
Sounds suspiciously like a migraine… any other symptoms?
Feel better!
Last June I broke my ankle and had that surgery. I got this handy roller cart that you can rest your knee on whilst you scoot around. I added a bike basket to the front, so that I could put my cell phone or whatever in it, and a cup holder for the all important caffeine. Here is a link to the one I got from Amazon. The one the doctor’s office mentioned was waaaayyyy more expensive. If we were closer, I’d give you mine. It’s languishing and about to go on Craig’s List. Take care. It sucks but it does get better.
2gig, I luckily live in a quite subdivision and my neighbors, if they get drunk, do so in the privacy of their own homes. That said, damn…
taters, I had two metal pins inserted in my arm when I fractured my elbow, never got around to having them removed. Apparently they don’t set off any alarms at airports and haven’t started poking out of my skin yet, so guess I’ll keep them.
FCM, hope you get feeling better.
And assorted hugs to all others in need of them.
Actually wore a pair of slacks (first time since I retired) today to go see the Dr. about my immunizations for the Africa trip. My Hep-A and Yellow Fever are still good and I got pills (instead of an injection–I am a big chicken when it comes to shots) for Typhus ($125!!!) and a prescription for Malaria drugs (only $23). So health wise, I should be ok, unless I am eaten by a lion or trampled by a hippo…
Watered the front yard yesterday, the back yard gets it tonight (no rain in the past 10 days and none predicted for another week. 87F outside and I agreed to referee a under-10 soccer scrimmage this evening…oh joy.
I have metal in my left wrist- a plate and screws and nails in my right shoulder but don’t set off airport alarms yet. The Dr. said no need to ever remove them. The wrist especially looks diabolical on x-ray. Good Luck Taters.
I got my car back and boy what a difference new tires made. I think it drives and rides even better than when it was new. New Coopers and install only $550 total. Saved me over $200 from the Goodyear quote. Still expensive.
I feel bad for Sari and Sah-son regarding Percy. I guess if he is healthy then it may just be a waiting game. Poor baby. Hope he wasn’t mistreated in the past.
Metal Mouse I just saw an article of a yellow fever outbreak somewhere in Africa but I don’t think it was South Africa. One of my clerk’s husband is in Africa in Djubouti Not sure of the spelling.
So, I filled out the zillion page form to apply for financial help with my rent (used to be call welfare, now they call it Temporary Assitance), gathered as much appropriate paperwork as I could - like bank statements, utility bills, SNAP. Medicaid, and HEAP evidence, latest rent bill, latest car insurance bill, birth certificate - double and triple checked that I had as much documentation from the provided list as I could assemble, put it all (or so I thought) in a manila envelope, changed into outside clothes (as opposed to pjs) and headed to the DSS, fully prepared to wait hours and hours to be seen. A friend came with me for company and moral support. I get to the window to hand in my application and
I take everything out of the envelope only to realize that the actual application was still on my desk. The clerk gave me a blank to fill out, but my friend thought it’d be faster if she took my car and came back here to get it. I said she didn’t have to but she insisted, so she went, and I found a place to lean on to fill out the blank form.
I finished it before she got back, and the clerk handed me a “wait til your number is called” ticket. Five minutes later my friend showed up with the first form. a couple of minutes later they called my number and I went to the window.
The clerk handed me an appointment card and said c’mon back Tuesday morning. She said at that time, a case worker would go over the application with me and give me a list of what documentation I need to gather to bring back yet another day.
Howdy Y’all! Irk is over for the next four days. YAY! The bizkit crust is on the pot pie and the pot pie is bakin’ away as I post. I’s hongry so I’m havin’ some cheese ‘n crackers to tide me over until dindin is done. OYKW called to say he should be here within the hour. His meetin’ ended earlier than he thought it would so he high tailed it outta there.
{{{rosie}}} DSS (DFACS in Jawja) is like that everywhere. Here’s hopin’ you get assistance soonest.
MetalMouse good to know you put on pants before you go out in public.
