A spooky treat for fans of games, scary movies, and M&Ms

(cheated on the last two :stuck_out_tongue: )

General hints:

Remember, they are “dark movies,” not necessarily horror (though most would qualify).

Some are straightforward, while others are horrible puns, and still others offer red herring details (especially the red and green M&Ms).

Most are verbal clues to the title, but a few are meant to evoke the content or theme of the movie. Of course, many times the two methods overlap (cf. Snakes on a Plane).

Mild hint for the guy with the lantern: this is really vague and stupid
Stronger hint: focus on the lantern - the guy is irrelevant

The mountain: This doesn’t include the full title of the movie

Red M&M: It’s not what he’s doing - just the things he’s using

The guys with the Os: Those are the letter “O,” not zeroes and it doesn’t really matter what they’re doing - just who they are

Telescope guy: the movie has no supernatural elements and the guy himself represents someone in the movie, not the movie’s title

Tunnel/doorway in lower right corner: it’s an adjectival phrase

Well, I eventually cheated, so I won’t say too much, but the telescope the guy is holding is completely irrelevant. I think the only reason he’s looking through it is that, to fit into the painting, he had to be doing something creepy.

Also, the “half-clues” I noted for the woman with two kids and the two guys on the stairs turn out to have been completely irrelevant, as well.

I got 39 without “cheating.” Which I’m pretty proud of, since I don’t watch very many horror movies.

Now I’m up to 44. The ones that I’m stuck on have all pretty much been hinted at, but I’m still clueless.

  • The red M&M.
  • The guy with the telescope
  • The tunnel
  • The “O” people
  • The two wealthy guys
  • The mom with her kids

Any further hints?

I’m currently sitting on 40 correct…the 10 I don’t have are liable to drive me nuts.

Apparent clues I’m missing:

The woman with two children.
The 3 kids dancing in a circle.
The red M&M.
The giant knife.
The jawbone.
The stairs and the guys on it. (I’ll take Chef Troy’s word for it that they’re two separate clues.)
The people with the Os.
The mountain.
The hole in the wall near Candyman, The Wicker Man and Eraserhead

The clues so far for the ones that have been clued haven’t helped.

This guy’s pretty much reenacting his movie, not acting out the title.

The 3 kids dancing in a circle.

Think of another term for youthful activities, with a connotation of great ease.

The giant knife.

It’s not the handle that’s important.

The jawbone.

A bit misleading. It would be more obvious if there were more than one lower mandible

The stairs

Hitchcock Thriller. 'nuff said.

The mountain.

Note the prominent geological formation…or should I say formations.

I tried this one and it didn’t work before…I must have clicked the wrong part. shakes fist

And this one I thought of, but miscounted the stairs. sigh

Another clue for the telescope guy:

The movie is from the same director as the straightjacket guy.

For the red M&M: Note how many pennies he’s juggling.

Oh, god, that’s horrible. >_<

Look at the objects he’s juggling.

Figuring out this one is like trying to ice skate uphill.

You are correct that they are two separate clues. I’ll just further tell you one is numerically related and the other is a matter of attitude.

What gender are they?

This clue has something in common with the green M&M and the walking pencil in the lower right corner.

OK, see, that’s what was throwing me…I thought it was a mixed group.

I have a feeling I’m going to feel REALLY stupid when I get the knife, because NONE of these clues are helping me.

OK, I cheated and looked up the quote.

I haven’t seen the movie, which is why it didn’t help me, but…yeah, I do feel stupid. >_>

Any clues for the group of monkeys?

Count 'em.

I cannot for the life of me:

a) Figure out the damned beetle thing

b) Spot any butterflies whatsoever (but I bet I know which movie they’re from)

c) Spot this tunnel/cave you people keep talking about.

Arrgh! 38 out of 50 so far.

(a) There can’t be that many movies with beetle as part of the title
(b) Butterflies are over the enormous fish
© Cave is below the enormous fish

I notice that, according to the high score list, the top 100 people did this in under three minutes. The top two did it in under one minute :dubious:

Maybe that’s what you can do when you’re on an M&M buzz.

The beetle isn’t the entire clue; consider the fluid under the beetle as well

On the right side near the tower

They’re over on the right side. Make sure you’re scrolled all the way over. The butterflies are near the screaming man and the fish, the tunnel’s down near the candy cane, the man in the baskets, and the walking pencil.

As to the beetle…remember not all of them are horror movies, or even wholey serious.

Oh good gravy! I just figured out the beetle one. Thanks for the clues, and for the pointers to where the other items are!

It’s also what you can do by playing the game more than once and only putting down your best score. Also, don’t forget you can pause the game so you can still visually analyze the clues without running more time.
