Ice cream is great for breakfast. We used to have ice cream on cornflakes before swim meets but Mom wouldn’t let us have it every day.
I’ve been going through my stuff and a lot of it has found new homes.
I guess when metalmouse said that, I was picturing an Arthur Dent sort of life, he travels all over the place and all he really needs is his towel.
It is rainy and gray today. The front swamp is full again and it’s around 40F. I’ve been outside once to feed the yard flock and I’ll go back out and do it again around 5. Other than that, stitching is calling. I don’t need to do anything else, so I won’t. I just love being retired!
I’m glad it’s clearing up some. California seems to have knocked most of the rain out of the storms before sending them this way, we are getting a nice steady drizzle with chances of snow up north.
My back is unhappy today. I blame Buddy, since he’s an expert at positioning himself in such a way as to make life awkward for the humans trying to share the bed with him.
It’s supposedly 47f here and we’re supposed to be getting light rain, but I’m not seeing any outside the window. I might go out and start a small fire in the burn barrel if it stays like this.
The birds are miffed. They’ve cleaned out the feeders again, except the suet feeder, and are unhappy with their hooman minions. Even the hummer feeder looks empty. Wifey says she’ll go take care of it shortly.
We got rid of a huge lot of stuff when we moved over here, but I didn’t have the time or energy to go through all the electric train stuff at that time. I need to start on that stuff this year. I don’t think I’ll ever have room to build another layout anyway.
I didn’t realize that when we moved over here that I’d have to give up all my hobbies.
It was in the Phoenix newspaper. I don’t have a subscription so I can’t give you a link
The article didn’t give exact locations, it was pretty general but because of everything that’s been going on, I thought I should mention it to you.
Last time it flooded out here, the sewage got into the water. We found out when we tried to flush a toilet and learned that the water was shut off without warning. That was inconvenient because we had to carry water inside from the rain barrels. If we had known in advance, we would have filled the bathtub. There were many complaints that the emergency alert system didn’t warn about the water, but it sounds like your system isn’t much better than ours.
Also, if you are under boil water orders, remember that you will be using contaminated water to wash your pots and pans. Do not stress about this at all, there is an easy fix. Before preparing food, fill the largest pot you are going to use with tap water and then put all the utensils in the water and bring everything to a full boil, then pour off the water and you have clean tools for cooking.
Once the water is clean again, run everything through the dishwasher and go on with your life
At least, thanks to Susan’s suggestion, I have some plastic bins out on the patio that have been collecting rain. I wouldn’t drink what’s in there, but it would be fine for things like flushing. Dishes and laundry are current, too. Got compulsive about that yesterday, worrying about power, but I really need to remember to consider water supply issues too.
Any suggestions you have for useful websites or books on prep topics will be gratefully received. I have some books on hand, but more info always eases anxiety.
Yeah, I wouldn’t drink out of our rain barrels unless we really had to, usually I use that water for my posies in the summer. My BFF’s DH, who is a professional plumber told me that dumping a bucket of water in the toilet to flush was wasteful and inefficient, you should always fill the tank to the lowest level needed and flush from there.
I honestly think you could write a book called Prepping for Apartment Dwellers, you have done an amazing amount of awesome prep work. The only thing you are missing is an inflatable motorboat for grocery runs!
Home from MIL’s. I cleaned her living room rug - all the stains, including blood, came up, so yay! We also discussed her finances and her will, among other things. FCD and his bro butted heads, as usual. I’m glad to be home.
I ran the dishwasher before we left - I’ll get it all put away later. Now it’s time for reading and chillage.
It was 26 feels like 16 this morning.
It’s 42 feels like 34 now.
I wanted to sleep in again this morning, but Cerby wasn’t having it.
As soon as the alarm went off, he was on the bed and pushing me out.
He always lands with a thud. He’s not that much heavier than the other two, but they can jump on and off the bed with very little effect. There’s no missing it when Cerby jumps on the bed.
Ripple is looking and feeling good today.
My son is relaxing a bit about following Ripple around to make sure nobody licks him, or bumps into him. He was a little upset with me for letting Ripple out and not going out with him, but I was sitting by the door watching him.
Nettie, I just remembered something else from when we had the hurricane.
If your car gets flooded, be careful when you start it, the airbags can go off.
Also, don’t go out walking in the flood waters - not that I think you would anyway. You have to be careful of stepping into a manhole, sometimes the covers will float away. You wouldn’t think so, but I’ve seen manhole covers come up from the water pressure in the hole.
Also, the water is pretty dirty. There were pictures of kids playing in their yards, right next to the oil and gasoline slicks floating on the water.
Nellie, I hope your vision starts to get better. Maybe it just takes a bit of time?
My triffle
I break up pound cake into a 9x11 dish.
Make Jello with just the hot water and pour over the cake
Let that set up in the fridge
Top with vanilla pudding - made with whipping cream instead of milk
Let that set up in the fridge
Top with pistachio pudding - made with whipping cream instead of milk
Let that set up in the fridge
Top with whipped cream
Then shave a Mr Goodbar over that
I’d have to use something other than a Mr Goodbar if I made it now
Mabe crushed pistachios and shaved dark chocolate
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and then came back to da cave for sammiches and nappage. That’s been the extent of activity today. In a bit I shall make a sup of baked N.O.T., the leftover holy moly dip, and a sallit. The dip is great over a baked N.O.T. The sallit will ensure that we have had a healthy meal. Tomorrow night is men’s night over to the church house, thus, steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’.
Rocker ice cream for breakfast was called far after cleanin’ up critter puke. I believe that is often prescribed by physcians and pet owners the world over.
Nettie may the worst of the weather situation be over for you.
Boo have a fun day with your centers of the universe!
Oopsie hope you have a great time today. I know you will.
Taters we have gotten rid of a lot of stuff and still need to go through more. I propose that to be a Spring task. I’ll probably forget about it before Spring however. Mind like a sieve I have! Hope hubby is feelin’ better soonest. I take the mattress pad to the laundromat and use a big machine there to wash and dry the thing. It’s king sized, so the washer and dryer at da cave can’t handle it so well.
shoe the bringers of the bacon wrapped bread thingys were not at church this mornin’. I shall text or messenger with a request for the recipe.
sari glad Ripple looks and feels better today. The trifle sounds yum. I shall have to make that sometime or other.
Slowly getting through the pile of logs I didn’t get through when I damaged my hand. It’s hard work with the splitting maul, axe, sledge hammer, and another axe or machete. The smaller axe or machete is used to get the bark off. The intact bark holds the wood together like pipe clamps, so it needs to be removed first.
I moved a heaping wheelbarrow full of freshly-split firewood to the new covered wood stack yesterday, and two loads today. I estimate the wood stack is about 20% full. I don’t know if the rest of the logs will fit once they’re split.
Afternoon all. Ate dinner at Texas Roadhouse, then came home to watch some tackleball and also cleaned up and filed my 2022 records and got started on my 2023 files. I have a small box that holds 8 x 11" folders that can be tabbed and that is my file cabinet for the year. Charging up the camera battery and need to figure out how everything there works, along with the new laptop (I just hate to follow all the instructions…). Maybe go to the library Moanday and do it, at least I won’t have all the home distractions. Up to 54F but rain is due tomorrow night.
Sari, good news on Ripple.
I doubt that’s all you coordinated…
Nettie, hope all the prep work isn’t needed, but sounds like the weather may be getting better. Take care.
My dear, you’ve never seen me pack for a trip… Towels are about the only thing not in my bags. Am puzzling out how I’m going to manage for 18 days on the road with only two medium-sized bags.
BBBoo, enjoy grandma day. SOunds like a lot of fun for all of you.
Taters, has he tried NyQuil? That really helps my sleeping when I have a nagging cough.
OK, back to check on the tackleball. All y’all take care.
That’s when I fell in love with da Dope 3+ years ago, when someone referred to his grands as COTU. The rest is unfolding history….I think that is the day I signed up. I knew you all were my people.
Thanks~we are! Snack was caramel dip with apple slices, pretzel rods and peanuts. Now watching “Encanto”~sweet movie. One of us jumps up at every song, cavorts and dances and sings the words. One of us doesn’t.
Harriet and I watched the first half of the Bills/Miami game while she jumped off the swivel chair in the living room to a nearby ottoman, my job was to keep count. I was rooting for Miami because I’d prefer my KC Chiefs not have to play them in the playoffs or the Super Bowl. I helped my daughter fold laundry in between jumps. I love sorting and matching socks~weird, hunh? Cute little kid socks are my favorites.
Everybody is coming over tomorrow so I need to go get another chicken. There will be 8 of us, so lots of food, so I’m going to be cooking a lot. And I need to get the leaf in the table. And run the roll suck.
