Thanks for the good wishes everyone. Hopefully there is plenty mojo to go around. Cupcakes are on me this week!
This raise means we can DEFINITELY save enough money for our 1 year anniversary trip to Italy like we dreamed of, so that’s really amazing. Basically, my new increase in pay will go entirely towards my husband’s whopping school loans so it’ll be like we are on our old income but no loans, which is pretty nice.
**VB **does that mean she broke her femur? Or is it still part of the knee but above the patella? Either way- eeeeh, that’s gotta hurt.
Also, I live in the Bean-land and I’m always up for Dopefests. We should probably not try to cram 16 people into Bartley’s this time though.
In other news, my husband scared me to death last night by thinking there was someone breaking into our basement. He woke me up at 11 and then he poked around with a flashlight for a while. Turns out it was a raccoon trying to eat our trash, but for about an hour I had visions of serial killers in my head.
Eels, I don’t know for sure. Scott is not one to know much about anatomy.
Technically, everything I can imagine would be a broken femur based one what he said, but If the break was close enough to the joint, I can see letting him call it a broken knee.
Poor dude is freaking out, because he’s got 2 parents that don’t move around very well, and they’re all dirt poor.
This sounds like the place I took my diving certification tests…Haig Quarry in Bradley, IL by chance? The place was a limestone quarry, but they hit an undergrond water source one day and the place filled up. The old mining equipment is still there among other things. They’ve also sunk a boat more recently for people to explore.
V-Bob Bostonians are great at Dopefests, mini or otherwise. Just let us know when you’ll be in town, and we’ll see what we can do. Oh, and I wish I had a neighbor like you too.
Congrats on the promotion Ely.
Blargle. It’s raining. This is a day for sleeping in, but I’m at work. Ugh. Me wanna go back to bed.
Bob, PM with details when details are nearer.
Dearest** Elysium**, the last time we had a mini-Dope/MMP-fest it was not nearly so large.
Here’s a picture .
Although there are plenty of Boston kids in the SDMB who like to get together for dinner. tdn, is almost always up for dinner and a very cool guy as well.
(On preview, I see** mousie** has beaten me to post.
Fun fact: mousie and I are practically geographical neighbors as far as dopers are concerned.)
Yay Ely!!
{{**Pie **and Spaz}}
You’re a good neighbor, bobbio. Now why don’t any Mumpers come to the Twin Cities to visit?
Good luck on the job front **McUne **and Muppet.
Good luck with the roof, gt.
Did that cover everybody? It’s all I can remember.
One of my coworkers/friends has a toy rat terrier… that decided to take on a pit bull last night. Fortunately the pit bull had a muzzle on, but still scary. And kinda funny that such a little dog (she’s smaller than our cat!) has such a big-dog attitude.
I’ve got a buffalo pot roast in the slow cooker today. There was a buffalo chuck roast on sale last week so I had to try it. I’ve had buffalo burgers before but never a roast. So we’ll see how it tastes. Should be good.
I think our cat’s depressed. She got used to going outside for a few weeks there, but it’s been so rainy and cold and miserable that she’s finally given up even going to the door and crying to go out. Now she just lies around, looking sad. It’s not even the contented-cat sort of lying around. It’s a oh-woe-is-me sort of depressed cat look. I feel bad but I’m certainly not the one who asked for this weather!
All this talk of cupcakes is making me want to bake. There’s really not that much that needs to be done at work today. Why can’t I just go home and bake?? I want a job where I can show up when needed but not have to be here otherwise. Where can I sign up for a job like that?
Speaking of being in the area - I expect to be in the Taunton neighborhood sometime this summer, I could be persuaded to hike north a bit, if some of y’all would meet me halfway?
When it rains it pours.
I’d have no problem driving a bit south. And my Davis Square buddies are always welcome to tag along for a ride if they’re available.
Ow. I think yesterday’s little trip carrying Nat killed my lower back. Ow.
(((Pie)))
I agree with beebs. Bob, you’re wonderful. Thank you for all the helping you do.
VB Ouch…
I’m glad your neighbours have someone like you nearby.
Elys Congrats on the promo!
Last night did a little driving, then a little Mario Kart and my friends introduced me to a guy. Kinda cute, seems pretty nice. Bit of a loud mouth when in mixed company but is calmer one on one (reminds me of Dad like that
). We’ll see if anything comes of it.
Tomorrow I’m taking Velociraptor to kindergarten orientation. This one, we get to meet th teacher and see the classroom, play a little bit. Then this weekend we are doing the first ride program, for the school bus. sniffles My baby is growing up.
I agree, Bobbio would be an excellent neighbor. Hope the fracture isn’t as bad as it sounds.
It took 6 calls, but I now have someone coming out to do something temporary to prevent further damage and have several more lined up to give me estimates, starting tomorrow.
In the meantime, I’m inspecting every bit of ceiling and moving stuff to safe parts of the house.
And remembering to eat.
Back after a bit…
GT
And I live in Quincy, so I already AM halfway. I’m usually good to head north or south, depending on what we want to do.
I can certainly recommend good South Shore restaurants.
Ummm… can haz sunshine, pls? It’s like lukewarm cream of elephant soup out there… hot, humid and grey.*
Someone decided at 8am that it would be a great idea to relocate my 10:30 meeting from the downtown office to the 'burb campus. Considering it takes me over 2 hrs to get to the 'burbs, this threw me into total panic mode - especially considering I wasn’t even ready to leave yet. Thank Og for coworkers with cars who could make a detour to pick me up.
I’m actually starting to look forward to stagnating in my old department for a while. The work may be mindless and repetitive, but at least they’re totally predictable in both hours and location.
*y’all know I was just waiting on an excuse to get to use that term, right?
What a good neighbor/human being, you are, Bobbio. I feel so bad for Fred and Sarah! Sounds like she succeeded in doing what my mother narrowly avoided, i.e. breaking her leg; my mom only bruised hers badly, but weeks later it’s still not recovered. Old folks recuperate so slowly from such things, I do hope Sarah will be okay quickly! She and Fred sound like just lovely, lovely people. And I’ll bet they are really, really glad to have you nearby!
Bummer on the roof leak, GT. Good idea to call the BBB for the names of reputable roofers, however; I’ll try that myself next time I need someone to do something beyond non-license-needed handyman-type work (since we have one of those, the hubby of our occasional dogsitter). Good luck getting it fixed and avoiding a bunch of water damage!

I slept okay last night; we were supposed to get more storms during the night, so I tossed some bedding on the bed in the front room – I was too tired to actually make the bed, but I figured I could wrap up in a quilt if need be – just in case I had to go sleep there and keep Rusty company so Papa Tigs could sleep peacefully back in the bedroom. Fortunately, if we had any storms, they didn’t wake Rusty up, so everyone slept through the night. And the Idiots even let me sleep in a bit this morning. I think I’m feeling more human, but I’m not willing to swear to it just yet.
Poor Papa Tigs is having the Week From Hell. They’ve had all kinds of problems/emergencies at the hospital, and he’s been putting in insanely long days. At least I’m insisting he eat on a more appropriate schedule, and he’s actually doing it for a change; he’s not real good about that sometimes, which plays havoc with his blood sugar. They seriously should pay him about twice what they do for all he does; he goes so far above and beyond it’s insane. I feel bad sometimes for him working so hard and having such a series of crises to deal with – but then we both remember that he likes it that way; he’d be bored silly without at least one or three crises du jour. People keep suggesting other less stressful jobs he should look into, and he thanks them politely and goes back to racing around like a crazy person dealing with all the crapola he has to deal with constantly. People are strange.
Okay, off to contemplate doing some actual work since I’m starting to get plaintive emails from the reporting firm. I really have felt like crap, however, so all I could do is apologize for not getting the stuff done on time. Not that any work has gone out of that office on time (except for congressional [del]drivel[/del] jobs, which have no wiggle room short of one’s house burning down or being carried away by a flood or tornado or some such) for the last two months, so I refuse to feel guilty about my little chunk of it.
Congrats on the promo Eels.
I want a neighbor like VBob!
Thanks ya’ll on the well wishes. I appreciate it. I’m not going to worry about anything just yet until after the meeting on June 10th. From there we wlil see how it goes. If all else fails I guess I can go back to being a secretary, which I really don’t want to do, but I will, as money is a good thing.
:: looks up Taunton on a google maps ::
I’m in for whatever–probably Hawkeye too.
Are we all moving next door to BBBob? Yay!
Noone, I have no idea how much storage costs either, but my godmother lives in a big house so I can store stuff there for free.
It might become a problem if I don’t end up coming back to Chicago, but I’ll worry about that bridge when I come to it.
So much crap to do, so little time.
Yay!
eta - anywhere but that restaurant
I’m back! Did ya’ll miss me?
Life has been utter chaos. Moving sucks, but we did manage to sand all the floors, and there are two coats of poly on most of the house. We still have to poly the living room, but the furniture is in there, so we have to wait until the dining room is finished so we can move the stuff in there.
Didja notice how I say we? I mean him, he won’t let me anywhere near poly. Good thing I suppose, it’s stinky, and gives me headaches. Prolly not good for the Tadpole.
Didn’t manage to get a tiller in time either, so we dug holes for a garden in the clay. I’ve never dealt with clay, it’s like friggin cement! Nasty! But the maters are doing good, and I’m putting the beans down this weekend, they’re poking out of the cups good. No sign of the zukes or squash yet though. I think I’ll do a few more tomorrow, just to make sure. We do have some nice strawberries though! And the jasmine on the deck is doing wonderfully. It loves this nasty muggy weather. I think the confederate is going to bloom later, I’ve had to pick sider mites out of it, and the pink was blooming when I got it, the night is just growing like all hell, and the angel wing looks as though it might bloom by the weekend. I almost kilt the phal orchid, but spritzing it seems to be keeping it alive. And I still have a slew of things to transfer from here to there! Gah! I’ll have pictures of the iris that came up soon too. It was very nice to buy a house from someone who grew something.
Early Tuesday morning I became an aunt again! My sister’s water broke about 7:10 and she drove here, I drove her and BIL (who we picked up from work along the way) and at 12:17 the next morning Madison was born. (I do not care for the name, but what ya gonna do?) I didn’t get home until 3:30, so yesterday I was zombified.
I also need to figure out what I’m going to do for a compost heap. I’ve got a bunch of melon rinds, and I want to start, I even have a bin. I hope they won’t get too nasty before Firday, and I need to get a few more ingredients for it, I got horse shit lined up for the weekend too, what else do ya’ll think I should start with? I got grass clippings too. hmm.
Okay, enough blathering, I’m off to nap!
That’s a shame
. They are lucky to have you so close.
