A strangely early MMP

There’s a new book in the Kushiel series? OK, must hold off buying it until it’s in paperback.

Please tell me its in paperback already.

Meeting is done. For now. I think it resumes again in roughly 30 minutes, because the dead horse is still twitching slightly and requires further beating. Personally, I think it’s just rigor setting in, but what do I know?

Caf was closed by the time I went down, so I resorted to buying Tim Horton’s. Of course, the twatwaffles who work there forgot my donut AND the butter for my roll… and I’m too lazy to walk all the way back to give them what for. Sigh.

Haze, it looks like a tunic to me. Should probably be worn with skinny jeans or leggings (assuming you’re not rabidly anti-legging like I am).

TagFree! Welcome back! Congrats on becoming an auntie! Running out of exclamation marks! (I am also in agreement with your assessment of the name, but hey, ain’t my kid)

rigs, I wrote back but Sheboss has kept me chained all day, so I couldn’t mention it here. We’re in a meeting now which started two hours late because she was checking email and later talking with her mother.

Sheboss is one of those people who don’t know how to delegate but then complain about having too much work. When she complained at the beginning of the meeting about “having had to” give a presentation in English in this morning’s meeting, Heboss proposed having me do any further presentations. Since he’s aboveish her, she’s reluctantly accepted; this should speed up those parts, amen.
Mom, proper sleeves do not have creases. This I learned from my mother, who learned to iron from my grandmother, who was a seamstress and foams at the mouth upon the vision of creased sleeves. Your da knew how to do sleeves right, I like that.

Hades, gratz on the promotion

[soapbox]Proper sangria is done with soda water, the lemon and orange should be real juice; it’s ok to use lemon soda but the orange soda doesn’t work well (that thing is too sweet). If you use Cocacola (NO Pepsi) instead of soda water, then it’s called calimocho (also spelled kalimotxo); legend has it cali was born when a student abroad was asked to prepare sangría and didn’t have access to soda water.[/soapbox]

I like wetteddy’s firemen, but I like my almost-naked french rugby players calendar better. Almost naked cos there’s a specific bit you never get to see, and one of them is wearing socks (which gives me the giggles) and another one has tighty blacks.

{{Shadow}} I hope the chest pain turns out to be nothing. Also the repeat GYN visit.

Haze, we used to wear skirts much shorter than that when I was a teenager. I can remember a slinky purple thing that buttoned all the way down the front that my grandmother bought me when I was about 13 that barely covered my hoo-ha; my father had a fit, and Grandmother (his mother, who he was scared to death of) said, and I quote, “Now, you stop that right now, Conrad, and let little girls wear what they want to wear!” Considering I was already about a foot taller than her, the “little” was ridiculous and normally I might have found it insulting, but under the circumstances, I was just cheering her on. About ten years later I found the slinky purple thing and tried it on, and was beyond horrified that I’d worn it as a dress. It was maybe an inch longer than what I would wear today as a tunic, if that. So your dress is quite modest by the standards of my youth.

I’ve been trying to work, I really have, but I’m either too hot or too cold or just feeling achy all over. It’s a real struggle. I’d love to just crawl back into bed, but we have weather approaching, so unless I feel energetic enough to make the bed up in the front room (which I don’t), I fear I am SOL right now. Oh well. I’ll sit here and keep plugging away. I’ve offered four times now to have someone else who needs work do the stuff I have sitting here that I haven’t started yet. Not a peep, alas. So I guess I’m stuck with doing the best I can. Which right now isn’t much.

ETA: Well, crap. Now we’re under a tornado watch. Just what I need.

Congrats, eels. on the leak, gt. Sorry about Hansel, spaz. Job well done, bobbio! Appropriate comments to all others not mentioned.

haze, have you done the sit-down test yet? If you can see your undies, then it’s a shirt. I could see it with skinny jeans.

Short story on my doctor’s appointment. I have sprained my AC joint and must do exercises to keep it from stiffening up. This oughta be fun. ::move arm:: OW! ::move arm:: OW! etc.

Oh, and the doc said it isn’t unusual for older people to feel little or no pain when they injure themselves. That is why they can’t gauge the need for treatment as well as younger people. That’s what he said, anyway.

The good news is I got scrips for the [del]drugs[/del] medications I want for the flight to and from Italy. I’m not a good flyer to begin with and I really hope to catch some zzzs on the flight over since it arrives at 8 am Milano time.

Haze that dress looks like dresses girls wore back in my days as a cub. Just sayin’.

Howdy Tagfree! Confederate jasmine is one of the purtiest and best smellin’ things evah! Ranks right up there with gardenias, IMO.

If we all move next door to BBBobbio, can I run for mayor of Hooterville?

I’m home workin’. I can’t believe how much I’ve gotten done just cause it’s quiet and I can concentrate. Well, that and not findin’ too many mistakes. I’m listenin’ to voice recordings and making sure the written apps match up with the information given on the recordin’s. Yee and Haa. If it sounds borin’, well, you would be right. Eh… I get paid good for it plus I can sit right here in shorts and do it. Matter of fact, I’ll go in tomorrow to meet with folks who have stuff to correct and probably get another batch and bring back to da cave. I swear I get twice as much done when I do this. Or, I may spend some time tomorrow actually listenin’ in on calls if we’re shorthanded, then spend Firday at da cave workin’. That might be a better idea.

Ok, back to it. I figure another hour and I’m done. YAY!!!

Your grandmother sounds awesome, MamaTigs. My dad used to have fits if I wore anything more than a couple inches above my knees. He definitely would not approve of this dress. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll go to VS tomorrow and see if I can find some boy shorts I wouldn’t mind other people seeing. I do have a part of black cotton shorts I used to wear for working out. I was thinking of wearing the dress with some white strappy sandals to our grad school alumni dinner we’re having this Friday, if the weather’s warm enough. (Speaking of which, it’s officially summer and the weather still sucks balls.)

it won’t be summer for 2 more weeks!

Stupid time limit for editing.

Pugs, I just tried the sit-down thing, and have discovered it’s okay as long as I’m careful about it. Guess that means I should go easy on the alcohol on Friday.

Would a backrub help with the arm? :: wiggles fingers :: I’m good at those, or so I’ve been told.

ETA: rosie, June is summer in my book. I refuse to believe otherwise!

Mercy is the third. Imriel’s books go Scion, Justice, Mercy.

I have them all in hardcover (or will, when Mercy arrives) but only because if I preorder I manage to get them at just over half the cover price, especially since I have the book card for the company I buy from and I get coupons regularly for their company. So I place one order about February for all the books I want over the summer (not many, but generally 3 or 4), and I get free shipping on them all. Then they ship early enough that I usually get them anywhere from nearly a week to a couple days before the release date.

The weather here sucks balls too. WTF, it should be NICE, dammit. I hope to Og that the weather is nice on June 14th. That’s my daughter’s HS graduation day.

Haze, I agree re: the sit down test. If you can see your undies when you sit, then, well, it’s a top.

I called my son’s school yesterday to find out when they were having the 9th grade awards ceremony. I was dismayed to find out it will be on the LAST day of school at 7:50 in the morning. Yes, that’s right…in the morning. This used to be a big to-do that they did in the evenings. This is when the honor awards, presidential awards, etc are handed out.

So, now I’m not sure if** Mr. Taters** will actually get to go. I’ll go, and go into work late, but still, the timing and planning is dumb. It’s kind of like they thought of it last minute or something. They still haven’t even mentioned anything about the 9th grade formal dance. Someone really screwed up this year, I think. There’s also another activity for the departing 9th graders, and there’s nothing about that either.

The stupid thing was, they didn’t even have the awards ceremony, or even any of the other 9th grade activities listed on their school website, much less the district website. All the other junior high schools had theirs listed.

I’d complain, but it doesn’t matter much for me anymore. My son will be done with that school this month anyway.

I am still just dog tired and feeling kind of sick too. I don’t know what’s up with me. I need to start feeling better because I want my daughter to enjoy her scholarship tea.

Swampy, I wish I could just “decide” to work at home. Our division boss insists on “face time”. There’s one individual in my branch who can telecommute if she so wishes, but the big boss insists that means you sit in front of your gov issued laptop for nine hours working. Now, if you have a big project, that’s easy to do. Sometimes (though rarely), things are slow and we’re asking each other if there is something we can help with. Also, if we telecommute, then we give up our office space. We have to share. I’m not ready for that yet.

Today would have been a good day for me to telecommute, but I didn’t bring my laptop home. I wasn’t planning on calling in today anyway. I’m sure it looks suspicious that I stayed home; I had already submitted a leave slip for half of today off. I can’t help that though. I really just couldn’t even keep my eyes open this morning. I slept like a rock until 10:00 this morning. Usually, I wake up over and over, but not this morning. You’d think I’d feel rested.

Bobbio, it is indeed cool having a paramedic/fireman as a neighbor. Two of my neighbors are paramedics. They are the best, and have actually had to help some of our neighbors out. Actually, one of them helped Mr. Taters out when he rolled his ankle, passed out, and took a header down the driveway. We ended up having to call Fire and Rescue, but** Mr. Taters** turned out alright.

Okay, I see that **Haze ** has tried the sit down test. Do you really want to have to be careful about how you sit or walk all the time? Clothes should be comfortable and not something you have to think about every second. Just a thought.

Goodness, I’m just a blathering fool today. I’ll go for now.

:frowning: on the chameleon and the kitten.

Hope the pain is nothing serous, Shadow.

That’s a cute dress, Haze, although, yes, quite short. I like the shorts or leggings ideas.

Roof guy has been here, made a diagnosis, done a temporary repair, and given me an estimate. I’m at least going to get tomorrow’s estimate (since it’s from the company I was second-most impressed with) before calling back, but I thought it sounded pretty reasonable. They can do the work next week. He really took his time about diagnosing the problem, even crawled up into the attic and walked the whole place. His conclusion was that it was actually the chimney that was leaking. He said the flashing was crappy and needs to be replaced. He added some shingles all the way around and thinks that that will hold it for a bit.

I am now going to take a nap and hope that nothing wakes me up. (Earlier, the roofing guy called just as I was falling asleep.)

Hugs to everyone who needs 'em.

GT

Hugs to all.

So a friend just emailed me “How is your cracked patella situation?” and I couldn’t imagine why she was asking me about a rice based seafood dish?

See? I told you I was dog tired.

I wanted to add that I hope the chest pain turns out to be nothing serious, Shadow.

I also wanted to add my :frowning: re: the kitty and chameleon.

I hope the roof repairs won’t be overly costly, gt.

Or not…and do a Brit.

 A shoulder rub would be awesome!

Yes, that’s it. <peers outside, wondering if others are sharing her life that she knows nothing about…hearing Twilight Zone music…>
hazel–that dress is sex on legs. I think it’s too short–imagine hopping on a bus. I’d wear bike shorts underneath. Leggings are too hot for now. It’s very cute, though.

Guess what? I heard back from Mac re my puter issues. Turns out it was on their end (the part that screwed up my Mail and wouldn’t let it close), so I didn’t need to mess with any of my settings etc.

so, now I am left with this Keychain from hell–which I am keeping unlocked, and cannot figure out if this is a Bad Thing or not. I posted a query on the Mac forum and got back–go look at Keychain Help. yeah, because of course I didn’t do that and even if I had, I didn’t find any thing that described my problem. <sarcasm> Stoopit forum. I think I’m going to wait until I get back from Memphis and then take it in to the Mac store in Oak Brook. maybe they can do something. It works right now, I just don’t know if it works as it should or if it’s secure (or as secure as it could be). Grrrr. This is my mistake, though–in panicking, I set this whole thing in motion. :smack:

Sangria is my favorite alcoholic drink ever, behind champagne. It is the only reason (besides my birthday) that I welcome summer!

Do you have a good, authentic recipe? I sued to go to a wonderful Spanish restaurant, but we moved away and I can’t find the good stuff here…

How did I miss chest pain on Shadow? Hope it’s only heartburn.

The Husband has called. He sounds like he is having a midlife crisis today. He wants to talk at 9pm (wtf? I almost said, no, but I will at 830–I’m a PITA sometimes…). His boss is saying he is quitting (the boss is) and now TH doesn’t know if this is what he wants to do(?) None of it makes sense and I feel many things, including–hey, buddy, you want me to listen to you, but when did you ever listen to me? (but you all know I’ll listen–I’m wired that way, unfortunately).
It rained here for about 3 minutes. I transplanted a bunch of Stella D’Oro daylillies and need more than 3 minutes of rain. I also moved some iris and some English wood hyacinths. I usually don’t stress plants like this, but I have no time later and they needed to be moved.

I posted again because I had more to say. How’s that?

Imriel does grow up in Justice. So far, Mercy is pretty good. I’m maybe eighty pages in. I think Sidonie’s quite cool.

Not in paper until next summer, Mahna, but you’re welcome to borrow my copy. After I’ve read it, of course.
Oops, kid’s awake.

I’ve been drunk on sangria many times in my life. I love that stuff.

:: get-well kisses for Shadow ::

Okay Pugs - first you have to get nekkid, and then I cover you in oil.

I agree, I thought he really grew into his own as a full-fleshed charater in Justice. He’s no longer just “Phedre’s adoped son,” he’s got his own very unique characterization.

Without spoiling anything Lissla, do we see much of Phedre and Joscelin in the new one or are the in the background similar to Justice?

Mahna Mahna: unfortunately the new one is just coming out in hardcover on June 12th. I hate carrying hardcovers, but it’s worth it for a new story!
