I managed to get several chores done and now have Death Chicken in the oven. Hubby requested it.
Not much else going. The kids are gone. My daughter has been hanging out with her friends all day, and my son went straight from school to hang out with some of his friends.
Speaking of my son, I’ve got to brag on him. As you all are aware, he got a job working at the Sonic that just opened out here. He started at the end of April. Last night, he told me they’re training him up for all the stations because they want him to be a manager. They’re also trying to get him a raise right now.
He can’t be a manager until he’s eighteen, but apparently he’s already impressed them. I think it’s awesome that they’re trying to get him a raise barely a month after he started his first job.
I’m very proud of him. He’s a hard worker and a very smart kid.
Thank goodness the temps were much lower today. I don’t think I could have handled another 90+degree day in a row.
That sounds real good! I almost bought some poke chops at the store this afternoon but decided on two T-bones as they were on sale and I could not pass them up!
Pretty tired this evening. I’m not sleeping well lately. Sorry for not responding to more of you guys’ posts but I did read them.
Going out of town (not far, Virginia) for three days on Monday. Should be mostly fun. Going via train. So I’ll have a couple of hours in peace and quiet to mess around on the laptop and get some work done. Watch; I’ll get sleepy THEN and end up in Newport News or something!
If you were the pastor of a significantly large church (2000+ members) why would you have a private facebook page?:dubious: Wouldn’t you want your congregation to get to know you better? Especially if you’ve only been their pastor for a couple of years…
Well, if you don’t hear back from me tomorrow, it’s because lightning will have struck. I guess I’m pastor-bashing tonight. There was a small new church that I had been thinking about going to awhile back until I was following along on the pastor’s facebook page and started to get aggravated with some of his ideas. So, I just sent him an email tonight.
I’m reasonably sure that God has better things to do than toss lighting at anybody who bashes one of His servants. Plus, is He was going to do that, He should start with those servants who don’t deserve the name.
Capitalisashon an’ me don’t like each other this morning. I don’t like my mother this morning either. She asked me how come that, since I wake up at dawn, I don’t go to watch dawn. I’m feeling sorely tempted to do exactly that tomorrow. In MY old bedroom, the one from which I got banished for going to college too far (in, uhm, fall of '86; I refuse to do the math) and which is next to her bedroom and has the rolling blinds down at night. Raising said blinds with all the energy I’m capable of. I know I shouldn’t be still mad at that, it’s been a geological age, but damnit, I still can’t stand the less-than-6-square-meters-and-no-sight-of-the-sky-and-clogged-with-furniture room she tucks me in.
I have a strong suspicion that we reached “I’ve been ‘at home’ for too long” point about a month ago. Problem is, if I go to my place, she’ll insist on coming. I’m a wuss and hate it when she cries, ok?
I woke up and looked at the clock, thinking it was 6, feeling good for having slept in. Then I looked closer - it was 5. So I got less than 6 hours of sleep. And thanks to my internal clock, I’m wide awake, since I’m normally enroute to work at this time. *grrrrrr *But the critters have been tended to so I guess it’s “me” time.
According to the weather radar, all the rain is gone from the area. But it’s still overcast. ick. I’m hoping to see a little sun today - the grey has been oppressive.
That’s all I can manage for now - gonna brush my teeth and find some caffeine. Or go back to bed. Either way…
Nava, my mom has been off of work for awhile because of knee surgery. I love my mother for sure, but I can definitely relate to too much togetherness. I was just thinking last night that I’m ready to head to TVLand like yesterday.
Yeah, and no lightning so far. I did get a response from the pastor and he said that I was looking at stuff on a page that belonged to him personally and that I shouldn’t judge the church on his own views. I certainly respect his right to that opinion, but I heartily disagree. He and his wife pretty much ARE the church. How can his church views be different than his personal views?
Obviously I haven’t told you the whole story, but do you think I’m out of line to expect the views of a church’s pastor and founder to reflect the views of his church?
I think you’re completely in line. While I can understand the story about Karl Marx saying “but I’m not a marxist!”, what you talk about would be more like Lenin claiming not to be a leninist…
Yesterday Mom said re. some mess in a group she belongs to (it’s the kind of thing that totally gets on my nerves so I was paying only about 1% worth of attention) “that’s why friends are friends, they stick by you, unlike family; family, you get stuck with.” “Nh-hu :D” “HEY!” “Mom, don’t paint a bullseye if you don’t want me to hit it :D”
How could a pastor think that his personal views would be separated from his church’s views, Pie? Seems to me that your faith is pretty inseparable from your personal views. If he’s claiming it’s not - especially if it’s such a small church - then well, how do you spell “hypocrite” again?
Same thing happened to me, FCM, although I’m not sure what my body clock is set to right now. So I’ve been up, putting laundry away and having breakfast.
Very soon, I’ll be finishing off some stuff to take to the park, then I’ll be off to put labels together for the containers we’ve planted.
I was watching Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives last night, and one place had some Polish dish that sounded like ‘halooshki’, and contained cabbage, noodles, and BACON! Anyone know how it’s really spelled so I can try making it? Mooooom?
Spaz, dear, how’s the sunburn? I won’t stay long, 'cuz I haz to be in Kinston by 2.
**Bobbio **- that’s a new one on me, but I’ll ask my mom. But does thissound like it??
We’re showered and dressed and waiting for daughter to get her buns in gear. Then we’ll go get some breakfast, and head to the boat. It’s still overcast, tho I did see a sunbeam or two earlier. Maybe…
Brrrr. It’s 40 and raining. Possibly my least favorite kind of weather, aside from scary kinds. Brrrr. (I am trying to ignore the predictions for the next couple of nights that mentioned “chance of snow showers” because it’s NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Or if it does, it’ll be UP HIGHER THAN I AM IN THE MOUNTAINS DAMMIT BECAUSE IT’S JUNE, AND WHOEVER IS IN CHARGE BETTER NOT FORGET THAT!!!
I was up early because hubby woke up feeling er…amorous.
The coffee has brewed, I’m just about through my first huge mug, and just about ready to throw some clothes in the dryer.
We’re supposed to go golfing today. I haven’t golfed in 24 years! In all actuality, there are three couples going, but only four of us will get to golf. It appears that myself and one other friend get to sit in the cart and watch the others golf. We might get to smack a ball or two, though. I imagine all I"ll be smacking is divots.
It’s not all that nice out. A dense marine layer has formed so it’s cloudy out. Temps might reach 65. On the one hand, that’s good, because Thursday and Friday were miserable due to the high temps; but on the other hand, I need to figure out what to wear to the course now that I’m not wearing shorts. I don’t really have any casual pants that aren’t jeans.
After golfing, we’re eating at the clubhouse there.
My daughter’s boyfriend bought a Furminator for our dog. Hoo-doggy! That thing really does remove the hair. They got a start on furminating poor ol’ Cap’n last night, but he was getting agitated, so they stopped and will continue today.
