I’m pretty sure I reserved my place in a special handbasket yesterday – when I heard about the Air France jet gone missing, en route from Rio to Paris, my first thought (and remark!) was “that route probably went right over the Bermuda Triangle!”
I am soooooo going to hell for that. Or I would be if I thought I’d be going anywhere…
I actually checked (hangs head in shame) – Bermuda is significantly West of the flight path.
How pathetic does that make me…?
As for making room – I have a better idea. We should get into the Hot Tub together, instead. There’s (slightly) more room there, it’s more fun (and we’re already going to hell anyway, so we might as well enjoy ourselves on the way ;)), and we need to start getting used to the heat…
I’s tired today. 'im indoors was snoring when I woke up at 5am, so I decamped to the spare room and then realised that I could hear the constant drone of one of his computers instead. No more sleep for me then.
My sunburn is still sore but at least the colour’s fading a bit and it’s not glowing quite as much as yesterday. I will definitely be using large quantities of sunscreen if I’m out and about this weekend though!
Nothing exciting going on today at all, the office is very quiet so I’m just amusing myself with student projects and marking sheets. It’s all good…
It’s no fun to watch news about plane crashes when you’re in an airport. I felt guilty because I was relieved that it crashed on a route that I’m not likely to take.
Well, I slept some…not quite enough…but here I am. Thanks for the welcome back, everyone. I did, indeed, have a lot of fun, loved Paris and would love to go back to see some of the stuff I missed.
For the record, I too, find the distance between Mom and me a key to my healthy survival. I know that some of my family thinks that my place as the single daughter ought to be living with and catering to Mom (this is what good, conservative, Mexican girls do). Ain’t happenin’.
Guess I should start getting ready for work. Did I mention donwanna? I’m hoping to be able to take off early (or at least on time)…
Wrong ocean; I was thinking that maybe they wound up on the beach of some anomalous tropical island that has several scientific outposts, a smoke monster, and a murderous crazy French woman.
Blurf. Two ambulance calls last night. Sleep is for the weak.
Kai, I was just proud that I got Puyallup. I’m not even going to attempt anything else!
It’s KT’s birthday (but he doesn’t read here so you can just send mental wishes). I think we’re going to Spargelfest at a German restaurant near here. (That’s asparagus fest for those of us who aren’t too fluent in German.) That was the leading contender for dinner when I asked KT last night where he wanted to go. Yeah, we can and do make really good food at home, but it’s tough on a week night, especially when it’s a Tuesday, which is my busy day at work. Although it’s looking like I’m going to have things wrapped up by noon today! Woot!
There’s a blood drive at work today so the vampires are going to get me. I’m glad they’re doing it here. It’s convenient, and it encourages people to give when you can use work time for it.
Over the weekend I made chocolate chip cookies and threw in a couple handfuls of crystalized ginger (the kind that comes in about-chocolate-chip-size pieces). They’re gooooood! I think I may try ginger snaps with some cocoa powder in the mix and then some chocolate chips added too. Kind of like Haze’s lesbian chocolate gingerbread in cookie form. I’m thinking that would be really good!
Gotta get back to it if I want to wrap up by noon! Yippee! (Not that it means that I get to leave early, but it’d be nice to know for sure that I won’t have to stay late on KT’s bday.)
I gave blood. Other than being really slooooooow, it went well. The poor admin assistant who was donating next to me nearly passed out. But they took care of her and she was ok. I don’t know if she’ll donate again though. Rough first experience for her.
I think we’re going Greek for dinner instead of German. The new-ish Greek restaurant near here has flaming cheese. That caught KT’s interest and the lamb chops sealed the deal. Should be good.
Well, since you’re all pestering me for an explanation…
I have type 1 rosacea, whic causes my cheeks to flush based on certain triggers (for me it’s alcohol and emotional stress). It causes broken blood vessels on my cheeks and a bit of a permaflushed look.
I went to the dermatologist to confirm and seek treatment (I want laser treatment to remove the broken blood vessels) and after some family and personal history suggested I get tested for Lupus. We have a bunch of auto-immune diseases in my family and some personal history made him worry about Lupus. Apparently Lupus can present with a “butterfly” rah on the cheeks. He’s picked a bunch of Lupus cases from people who thought it was Rosacea.
But all was well, which is really good as I had a friend die from Lupus a few years ago, so I was a little freaked out!
I love crystallized ginger. I eat it right out of the jar.
Corvette Roommate is having spinal surgery right about now. Good wishes and juju in his direction.
I’m going to the beach tomorrow! Haven’t been in about five years. I figured I should go before I head off west. Petercat is mad at me because I’m packing things. Hopefully he won’t poop on my bed while I’m gone.
Dang - summer snuck in - I had to close the house and turn on the air. I wanted to bake some 'nanner bread, but it seems kinda dumb to close up the house, then fill it with hot oven air. Cooldown coming, so I’ll bake then.
Lessee - belated happy b-day, lieu!!
{{{HockeyMonkey}}}
Glad ta see ya, kai!!
Welcome back, gt!!
I know I forgot lots, but I’m not going back to re-read. I may be forgetful, but I react sincerely when I read what you say… Really!!
Daughter is on her way home. Dunno when **FCD **will get here - he was late yesterday and he’s now late today. But supper will be fairly quick and easy, so I’m not sweating it.
I’ve decided to take a week off some time soon. My sweetie doesn’t have any vacation time, but I just plan to play in clay. The “when” depends upon the project I’m assigned to. Once I find out exactly what it is I’m supposed to be doing and when it’s due, I can decide when I want to be off. I may just link up to the 4th of July holiday, so I only have to use 4 days. But I deserve some uninterrupted clay time, dammit!!
I also deserve chocolate. Wish we had some. <sigh>
Puts some of the ginger chocolate chip cookies in the CD drive and sends them over.
The down side to wrapping up the big weekly project early is then staring at the clock for a couple hours. Why is there still an hour to go??
I have a big bruise on my arm from where I donated blood this morning. I don’t think we got the best crew here - I noticed them having trouble getting the needle in on other people as well. It doesn’t hurt but during t-shirt weather, who wants a really big purple spot on their arm?
{{{{{kai}}}}} - sorry you’re blurfing (LOL) but good to see you again. Oooh, taxi, those tollhouse cookies with the crystalized ginger pieces sound totally good! I had some ham salad for lunch (yeah, bad on me … shouldn’t be eating ham!) but it was good. Taxi, don’t you talk about that greek food any more … you’ll set my mouth to watering! Seriously though do enjoy your dinner tonight and happy birthday to KT
Wish I was gonna go on vacation! Color me envious!!
