Blurf.
Up, breakfasted, dressed in grubbies, and waiting for my sweetie to wake up. I ran to the WaWa and filled our gas cans. Today I’ll finally mow the ditch and **FCD **is going to ride the John Deere around the yard chopping up the first phase of fallen leaves. Then he’s got to go back to the office to write a report that’s due tomorrow - lucky him! I’ll probably do some laundry and some general tidying. Plus I need to get back to the linked Party Princess thread - I’ve got 3 or 4 pages to go and it’s cracking me up!
I think I mentioned last week that we hired a young couple to plow our driveway as required this winter. We had them over again yesterday to discuss doing some heavy yard work for us. They’ll be taking down a dozen small pine trees, clearing the side hill so I can put in some ground cover and crape myrtles, and taking down the small section of fence out front and removing the out-of-control cedar hedge-like growth. ALL for $900! These kids work cheap, and if they do well, we’ll be having them do a lot more. Apart from **FCD **hating yard work, there’s his back issues, so I don’t want him swinging a chainsaw. And I’m not strong enough to do some of the tasks, and others, I just don’t want to do - uck. So this way, we hire out the ucky work, then I can do what I want. This couple makes some extra cash, and I finally get my yard looking less horrible - YAY!
I just wish I could visualize what I want. I’m thinking a trip to some local nurseries is in order.
East Coasters, batten down for Sandy!!! I’ve got to say, I’m relieved we don’t have to worry about a boat during this storm - one less thing. And our generator is working, so if we do lose power, we won’t lose our fish. Life is good!
Happy Saturday!
Computer woes continue to manifest. Wednesday night I got the :eek:OMG! warning that yet another hard drive was trying to straight up die. I hightailed it to Best Buy, bought an external hard drive (terabyte, I feel so science fictiony), ran home, backed up both of my internal drives, and turned the computer off. Next day I called Nearby Computer Shop that I used two years ago when my computer curse first flared up out here. I brought in my tower and was updating my information when guess who walked around the corner and said “What are you doing here? Why didn’t you call me when it died?”
Computer Boy works at Nearby Computer Shop now. I find this highly amusing.
(And the reason why I didn’t call Computer Boy is that I haven’t talked to him in a couple of months and I don’t want to be That Person that only calls when I have a problem.)
Spaz you’re computer woes need to be resolved stat. I’m jonesin’ for some Agony Aunt Ryl and we all know my needs must be attended to above all else.
I did go back to sleep for a little bit. Felt good! Now I’m havin’ me some sody water and cheese puffs.
up, caffeinated, off to irk. Tailgate(we made the papers and college hockey were fun last night.
: waves voodoo doll at spaz’s dead hard drive : See if that breaks the curse.
Ditch has been mowed and leaves have been mulched, but to look out there now, you’d hardly be able to tell. I expect after the storm, most of the leaves will be down. rah. We also filled and started up the generator, so it’s ready to go if we lose power. Naturally, now that we have a working generator, we’ll never lose power again, but that’s cool - it’s like insurance!
**FCD **has gone to the office. I emptied, then refilled, the dishwasher. I need to leave around 3 to meet my sister, so that gives me about 5 hours to kill. I’m thinking I’ll have a little studio time, then shower up before I go. Somewhere along the line, I need to have lunch. Sounds like a pretty good day ahead!
I also need to call my mom. She got back from a 2 week cruise on (I think) Thursday - just in time for Sandy! Poor Mom…
I’m a party pooper. I’ve been invited to a movie night/pajama party and out to a movie by different friends this weekend I’ve had to turn both down due to studying for the big test. Guess I’d better go start studying.
I’ll be at irk most of the weekend.
I took off last night so I have to make up the hours this weekend if I want to eat/pay bills.
Need to go stock up on a few things in case we lose power. My tiny neighborhood was fine during Isabel, we were a tiny island of light in a sea of downed trees and power lines.
Still need brownies.
I just looked at the latest storm track from NOAA - they’re now predicting it’ll probably come ashore over the DelMarVa peninsula then clomp across Merrylande. Swell. Thank goodness we’ve got the generator running and full of gas. I need to fill both gas cans this afternoon.
Stoopit storm.
MOOOOOOM I trust you have the requisite stockpile of bread, milk, tp and cookies.
Mowage of OYKW’s yahd has been achieved. We’ve had N.O.L. and are now all clean and purty. Shrimps have also been bought for tonight’s dindin. All is good.
My mother’s bf is in OC, I hope he isn’t planning on staying there through the storm.
It’s beautiful here today, sunny, breezy and cool.
** FCM** Glad you got your generator up and running.
Study break. It’s rainy and dreary here today.
My youngest sister is supposed to fly back home from here on Monday. Home is VA. It may not happen on Monday and I know she wants to go back home to her husband. It’s been a long two weeks for her.
I hope all of you that are in the path of Sandy stay safe and that your power doesn’t go out for days on end, like last year.
It’s sunny and beautiful here; sucks that I went through the whole, hot summer and am going to be leaving this beautiful weather, lol! But I’m enjoying it
We’ve started moving things around, deciding what to keep in storage and what to donate/throw out/yard sale, and of course the cats are already pissed. The puppy will do fine living at nana’s, 'cause he’ll be with all his siblings and mom and he loves it there. The cats…yeah. I am fully expecting Big Dorky Cat to go wild over there, not be inside hardly at all. Little Orange Cat will hopefully be ok, but she has a habit of going to go look for her brother, and gets upset when she can’t find him. Hopefully she doesn’t get lost over there.
Rest assured that Chez Vunder can make French Toast and wipe butts afterwards throughout [del]the end of life as we know it[/del]this crisis.
Now, I must get off my lazy ass and clean carpets, for VunderWife has decreed that I must make them spiffy so they can get flooded upon Monday.
This reminds me of a bit I just read in Anderson Cooper’s book, the part when he’s covering Katrina. One lady vaccuumed and scrubbed her house top to bottom before evacuating, even went outside and got her favorite rocks from the garden and hid them inside the house. And of course there was absolutely nothing left when she got back.
So if I go through something like that again <made it through Isabel without a scratch; we got incredibly lucky compared to most people> I’m gonna mess everything up, and maybe the wind will tidy it all up for me.
Off to Annapolis with me. We’ll see how well Paul Revere has aged…
No, I cannot spend $41 on a t-shirt even if it is very cool. The irony is that if I had accepted the invitation to the HFUNs house tonight I could stop at the mall right by them and just get it from the store for $8 less (shipping cost). But I’m not, so I won’t. Besides, I shouldn’t spend $33 on a t-shirt either. Right?
I’m at the train station awaiting the arrival of a friend, whom I will then whisk down to a Thai restaurant whereat wait other friends. I have a long wait, though, so I may nap. I was going to brave Tar-Jay because I need a cover case for the iPad, but after 6 hours of irk, I haven’t the stamina. So I’ll surf and play games and nap. Tra-la.
I don’t know that you shouldn’t but I know I wouldn’t.
I don’t like clothes anyway, they are just to cover up the parts that are illegal to show (or now at my age I’m too embarrassed to show), or the parts that will get frozen in the cold.
