A family whose combined wealth exceeds two hundred billion dollars are currently conning their customers into doing the job of the entry level employees they laid off…
A couple of weeks back when FCD went to the senior apartment complex to see where his mom was on the waiting list, two of the residents were hitting on him, asking if he was going to live there and telling him how much fun they have! I don’t know if he was flattered, offended that they thought he was that old, or just amused by the whole thing! ![]()
Our cats never took to any of the scratching devices we bought - they’d much rather destroy our carpet. Idiots.
Well, yeah, who cares about the people who contributed significantly to the record profits, we have shareholders and executives who need new yachts!!!
I caffeinated later in the afternoon yesterday than I normally do, so I had a rough time falling asleep. Then I woke at least twice during the night, and finally was awake for good around 5:30. Just after 6, I got up to tend to the critters, and thus begins my day. It’s in the mid-20s outside, and I have an appointment at my credit union at 9:30 so I’ll be forced to venture out into the cold. Then FCD may or may not want to work in his shop - we’re still getting things organized as he consolidates his dad’s stuff with his. Dunno if he’s up to it - his legs have been hurting lately, but will he go to the Dr? Of course not.
Tomorrow morning, we’re supposed to meet Daughter et al for breakfast out - if they get around to telling us when and where. And we may go to the movies to see Marlowe - it sounds like something we’d both like. That’s our movie challenge - I don’t like the action flicks FCD favors and he rarely likes my choices (last one I picked was Tar, and he hated it.) But maybe this one will work.
Anyway, Happy Saturday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 31 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 58 and N.O.S. for the day. Somewhat cooler than it has been as of late but TWPTB assure us we shall have a return to Spring like weather in two to three days. Also, the annual tree orgy appears to be underway. Yellow stuff startin’ to show up. ICK! We shall sloth the day away as we are wont to do. Sup shall be leftovers from last night. We might or might not leave da cave today. I lean toward not, personally.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Good morning.
It’s currently 42 degrees and dark outside. The expected high is 47 with cloudy skies up until the afternoon which will bring rain.
I didn’t get much done yesterday other than the kitchen and some dusting. I was interrupted by some unexpected visitors who chose to hang around for a couple of hours. They mainly hung out with my husband, but still, I would really prefer a heads-up when someone is coming over. These were former neighbors, but still.
Trying again for the UHaul today. My husband didn’t roll out of bed until very late in the morning yesterday and two hours later the company showed up.
They are threatening us with lowland snow mid-week. They are not being super specific about where it’s going to fall and how much accumulation could occur. What I do know is that it’s supposed to fall during my commute to Oly Town, and I’m not interested in driving down there if it does snow.
Metal Mouse, I hope you’ve made it home by now and are getting some rest in your own bed. I look forward to hearing about your adventures.
Polar doesn’t play with toys anymore. He didn’t play with toys much even when he was younger, except to totally annihilate stuffies. He would chase balls but wasn’t really great about dropping them so you could throw them again. Huskies have minds of their own. Also, we had Brandi, our lab mix during that time, and I think it was more a case of them both trying to keep the toys away from each other than dropping them so we could throw them. Brandi was a real fan of tug-of-war, Polar could care less about it.
I should finish my coffee so I can get in the shower and get ready for the day. I hope you all have a terrific day!
scadian (I’m forgetting your mumper name), welcome back! That was an awesome fuel price. Glad the kittehs have passed their vet exams with flying colors.
JtC, I can’t speak for cats, nor current prices, but 5.5 years ago when I had Nelson neutered, the neutering part of his vet care was ~$160. Good thing the little guy is cute!
From my goat raising days, most kid goats are born white, buff or cream colored, but become pigmented in a few months. I never did more with the goat milk than use it as milk, but given the yumminess of that, I don’t doubt that it works well in cheesemaking.
Nelson has a pretty storng play drive. Aside from his lovey (Rocky Raccoon), he has a rubber fish (Señor Pescado) that he loves the wonky bounce of when playing fetch, Sonic (his hedgehog toy), and a number of denim rope toys (Sis does a lot of sewing projects with recycled denim and came up with a use for the inseams by braiding / knotting them into dog rope toys. They’re Nelson’s favorites.). I have to pick them up whenever I sweep or vacuum.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Since it’s too cold to go to the dog park (currently 31F), the only things on the agenda today are getting more air in the tires (the cold snap triggered a code yesterday) and hitting DG and / or Dollar Tree for a couple of things. I may wind up at 5Below or PopShelf if I can’t find what I need at the former.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Morning all. Back in the US of A for the first time since 1 February. Was about 45 minutes late arriving but sailed through immigration and customs and got my bags checked to home. Just need Delta to do it’s part…
The ‘bed’ on the flight here wasn’t really built for a 6’2" old fat guy, but after assuming more positions than the Kama Sutra I did manage to get 4-5 hours sleep which should be enough to get me home.
Gotta go, they’ll be boarding my flight in about 10 minutes and my phone charge is over 80 percent now ( is Miami airport needs more charging stations).
Mornin’, all! My plans for the day include a trip to TJ’s for pizza supplies and looking at a potential new shop. The new place is much closer to my house, but a lot farther from my buddy’s shop, who I think I’m going to be working with for the foreseeable future. My current shop is less than a mile from his place, and having a full production woodshop around the corner from his warehouse is quite useful.
Read much, retained little, so boos, yays, hus, and trouts as needed.
Stay safe, y’all.
Went for a walk, then put on SHORTS for sitting on the glassed-in patio. After lunch, decided to walk across the street to get mini ice cream sandwiches, bars and cornettos. Considering going inside, as the sun‘s going down and it’s starting to cool off.
Turned two bananas into banana bread and still have five more. Good thing I have space in the freezer.
Happy Saturday!
Speaking of shops, I just finished helping FCD unpack the last of his dad’s stuff and find homes for the assorted stuff. He’s now got a metric butt-ton of clamps of all descriptions, and a bunch of dremel tools and carving tools and all sorts of woodworking stuff. I know it was hard on him - he’s still grieving for his dad.
He also discovered the source of the puddle in the corner - a couple of holes in the roof. Apparently the steel couldn’t stand up to the branches that pierced it. FCD wants to get up there and repair it. I’m inclined to have someone come do it - we’ll fight that battle later. My big concern is whether we have a ladder long enough as well as the problem of getting it firm footing on the gravel that surrounds the shop. We shall discuss.
He’s futzing around out there now and I’m inside thawing. As good as the pellet stove out there is, it doesn’t warm the floor slab and my sneaks didn’t insulate too well. My tootsies are chilled.
I rolled over my IRA CD at the credit union, going from 2.5 to 3.75%. And I emptied the dishwasher. So some productivity today. I still need to clean the critter fountain. But it’s after 11 and I’m starting to think about lunch. Decisions, decisions…
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/52f with a predicted high of 13c/55f and cloudy. Weather app says “Someone tell Mrs Sun to get the fuck out here, the twit!” We did have some sun earlier, but it’s definitely cloudy now. The good news is that it’s just before 5pm and it’s still light!
metalmouse welcome home! Sorry to hear the lie-flat beds weren’t quite right for you, I’m a bit shorter so they work out well for me but I never really get into deep sleep on a plane, I’m usually just dozing for several hours. Just enough to feel sufficiently rested to deal with getting through the airport and getting a couple of trains back home.
Moooom I am sure FCD will be grieving for his father for a long time to come, but hopefully the tools will remind him of the good times and the man he admired.
Dicey Shorts? Ice cream? Goodness me…
hippie those quilts are beautiful! I am envious of people with a talent for crafts, since I’m one of those people who can’t draw a stick figure without a ruler and compass ![]()
I have read much but retained little, it’s been a long weekend given that it’s only Saturday
We left home on Thursday evening to travel up to York with friends, and since we were rather late getting there, we went straight to our friend’s house for a short-ish visit. Then we made out way to the house we were renting for a couple of nights, and spent the rest of the evening catching up with the other four people (and two small ones) who’d arrived during the day.
Friday morning was taken up with tea-drinking and getting ready for Pat’s funeral service which was at 1pm. We drove to the crematorium, suitably attired in the brightest Hawaiian shirts we could find because that’s what he would have liked. The service was short but very emotional, it was very well-attended and all of his friends from our social group had taken on board the instruction to be loudly colourful.
Following that, there was a celebration of his life at a local hotel where we were able to catch up with other friends we hadn’t seen for a while. There was a scrolling montage of photos from trips, parties and nights out that had some great memories for all of us. After that was over, we dropped the car off and walked into the city for a drink at the York Tap which was Pat’s favourite pub. His widow, Nikki, hadn’t been there since Pat’s death, and said she wanted the first visit without him to be amongst friends. She sent us a text when she was on her way, a couple of us met her outside and walked in with her to join up with everyone else. A quiet word was had with the bar staff, and once we were all ready, they rang the last orders bell and asked the entire pub to stand and raise a glass to Pat. He would have appreciated that.
Much later, most people had left and a group of us went to an Italian restaurant where they were able to open the upstairs area and accommodate a load of us. Final stop of the night was a pub where there was some seriously bad karaoke done to a couple of songs that we know Pat absolutely hated. Good end to a difficult day.
Now I’m back home, the cats are fed, the litter trays are clean and I am having a restorative cup of tea before I contemplate what to make for dinner tonight. All I have out of the freezer is mince, so I think it’s going to be chilli tonight which will leave me with leftovers for Monday as well.
Reasonable heave today(at least I’m wanted when the more senior people are off.
), and laundry is drying.
Well, he probably only has one yacht, unlike some megalomaniac billionaires who have a medium sized yacht follow their big yacht around, and act as an Emotional Support Yacht to the bigger one.
{{{{FCD}}}}
Hung some more art today, which makes me feel more permanent here. We’re having a bit of an adjustment problem in that regard.
Laundry day - ugh.
Can’t remember what I’ve posted, but I moved my guitar into the living room from where it was gathering dust (literally) in the computer room. Now it stares at me accusingly, saying “play me”. No excuses not to, as I am usually bored silly in the afternoon.
Tomorrow is the NBA Allstar game; a good excuse to make popcorn. The T-wolves Anthony Edwards made the grade this year. Dude is fun to watch.
Daughter cancelled on me for tomorrow’s visit. She has a cold (or maybe not; hard to tell with her).
Bagels for breakfast; no idea what’s for dinner.
Only time I ever got a decent sleep on a plane was when I flew Tokyo-SF back in '87 – the plane was only about a quarter full, so I was able to claim a centre section of seats and stretch out.
I don’t find those plane chair-beds confortable at all.
Howdy Y’all! We decided to go get Mexican comestibles for N.O.L. thus savin’ last night’s leftovers for tomorrow. Any other need to feed today will be via forage. We have achieved nappage and day drinkin’ as well. How ever do we keep up such a rigorous pace!
Home. Typing this on my home computer as the house warms up.
More on the next MMP, may not wake up for awhile once I go to bed (will try to make it until sometime tonight).
Take care all.
Lager is 90 percent back to his usual self. His glucose numbers are starting to stabilize. Somehow he heard about my tax return and is planning to spend it on an ultrasound.
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who found and tried to finish projects left by a parent’s passing. I found one knitting, one embroidery , and one quilt project; after my mother’s passing. Luckily the quilt was pieced together. All it needed was padding and a back. I was able to finish that one. My cousin was able to finish the scarf and we both worked on the embroidery.
Pre painting prep continues. I got bad news on the paint match for one wall, good news on 2 other walls. I really don’t want to deal with new colour scheme. There maybe a new furniture scheme, that is enough to be going on.
We had soup-and-salad at Olive Garden, then dropped off a tool box at MIL’s - she now has some screwdrivers, some pliers, a hammer, and a few other things one might need for DIY. We stayed and chatted with her for a bit, but now we’re home in chillage mode. The lazy is strong in this one.
Shhh… I’m about to break a rule. We’re not supposed to throw away small appliances into the compactor, which is the only non-recyclable receptacle in the complex. My dead Keurig has to go somewhere. It is not repairable, so Goodwill doesn’t want it, plus I’d feel guilty foisting a dead appliance on anyone. And it’s illegal to use someone else’s dumpster. I guess we’re supposed to take it to the dump, but I have no way of getting there, even if I knew where it is. So I’ve taken it apart as much as I can and am going to sneak it into the compactor and pray it doesn’t jam anything. If you don’t hear from me, I’m in the poky.
Yaaaay! MetalMouse is back!
doggio, that sucks about the layoffs. I looked up an article about it. Most news stories only cover the weekend drivers issue, so I had to dig to find out they’re laying off 350,000 workers. Yikes. I get a LOT of stuff from da jungle due to not driving, but even more important, I want you to keep your job and teach us all those esoteric terms. Also, would Blueberry the cat get laid off? We can’t have that, either.
cookie, what kind of music do you play?
VanGo, since your current shop is so close to your buddy’s, are you thinking a place closer to home would be cheaper?
Shorts or lederhosen? I hope it’s the latter. The world would be a better place with more lederhosen, I say.

Welcome home metal mouse!
I swung by Discount Tire for air in my front driver’s side one that was low. I usually tip the attendant a couple of bucks, even though the service is free. I would have to put that into a DIY air compressor at the gas station anyway and these guys are usually the low dudes on the totem pole and working outside.
After picking up a couple of kitchen brushes (along with a few other things) at DT, it had warmed up enough to stop at the dog park (Nelson was with me), so the little beast got some exercise. Now for more work on the Xmas cards. I want to get them finished ahead of time to prep for the two wedding albums coming up and the two cookbooks that I do annually as a personal project.
