A Superb Owl MMP

Watching the Outdoor hockey game in Raleigh. From indoors(I’m poor, I couldn’t afford it). I had a pregame Vieux Carré, now it’s beer o’clcok.

I’m in a high volume region, so I should be good(they’re opening up another facility in the city to handle the volume).

(S)He is an independent contractor, and also works for the plumbing company out front.

Yay!

You should be good. I Tell Tale Hearted a washer/dryer stacked unit into the dumpster once.

Howdy Y’all! We have continued sloth by chillin’ with Netflix. OYKW is now abed and I shall do so shortly. Thus it is in swampland this chilly eve.

MetalMouse welcome back. Enjoy a good, looooooooooooong sleep in your bed tonight.

Rocker glad Lager is almost back to his old self.

Nellie as long as you don’t say sump’n like, “Goodness Me! What on earth could have messed up that compactor! The crunch sounded like somebody threw an old Keurig in there!” you should be good to go.

You people make me laugh–or in the parlance of my native Chicago, youse guys crack me up. Obviously I’m not in the slammer, unless the slammer gets wi-fi or I bribed a guard. Right after I fed the compactor, a guy came by to pitch his trash. Yay, harder to prove it was me! But reality thuds. I couldn’t let him take the heat. Luckily, the compactor crunched the Keurig like a dog with a Milk Bone.

So I skipped to the gym and am now going to shower and have dinner.

The roof for the community center is being replaced tomorrow!!! All of the stars aligned and Lowes has a free truck to deliver the donated materials tomorrow and the roofers can’t do the paying job they had scheduled due to financing so they are free to do the roof tomorrow! I am SO stinkin’ happy I can’t stand it.

We are planning on going over around lunch time with pizzas and sodas but Hubs has already told me that I can’t spend my day in the parking lot supervising them. He’s probably right, I have another building I need fixed, there is no reason to make them not want to come back.

I think I’m going to buy that new mystery class to celebrate!

We picked up hubs’ bike today and when did he turn into such a weenie? I can remember times he would arrive home with icicles hanging off his knees cause he got caught in the snow but didn’t want to leave his bike until morning. Today it was in the low 60’s and he just came straight home because it was cold.

Besides taking hubs to the shop, nothing much else happened. My Tai-chi class got cancelled cause our teacher is sick. She’s a nurse and nurses really suck at self care, so I know she really feels like crap.

This has cost me money, though! My medicare advantage plan gives me rewards for “healthy living” activities and the classes qualify for 10 bucks a month. Woo Hoo, that pays for the “suggested donation” for the class. (I don’t actually get money, I get credit to pay for things like denture cleaner and blood stop. They are products we use all the time, so it does count. Kinda.)

You sweet summer child. Ain’t nobody ever pays attention to that!

I have way too much more experience with dumpster management than normal folks…

I have since been educated on this  The goat lady will speechify about goats like I speechify about cheesemaking. She invited me to come and see what the first milk looks like, I guess baby goats get special newborn milk for a few days and then it turns into the real stuff.

She still had a few mamas who hadn’t had their babies yet, so I choose to not risk looking at cute little babies and then being dragged over to watch one get born. I get the vapors just thinking about it, I’d probably just pass the fuck out if I actually had to witness “the miracle of birth” happening in the same room as me. (I saw it happen once before I started school. I also saw my kitty eating the afterbirth. That was when I choose to be child free cause there was no way I was ever going to eat something like that.)

GG’s snipping was almost a hundred more than Nelson’s. The Humane Society used to have low cost s/n clinics but they don’t have a vet and there really aren’t any low cost clinics around. This is a serious issue, the only way to stop the pet overpopulation problem is to stop the breeding.

How was it? What do you make?

:people_hugging:

Didn’t your kids come home to do the laundry when they were young? I know I did mine at my folks’ place those times I didn’t have my own washer/dryer. Now your kids can pay you back! Gather up all of your laundry and have a nice time with your daughter while the machines are chugging!

Typical!!! I’m glad he is feeling better.

Does the paint really have to match perfectly? Our hunter green wall is more hunterish than the last paint, but it still works well with the other colors.

If it matches I can do a small patch. If it doesn’t I have to repaint the entire wall…or make it a pattern. Hmmm, this could be interesting.

About to head to bed but thought you’d get a kick out of this item from the police report section of my old town’s newspaper:

Caller on [street name] stated her house smells like weed and would like someone to come check it out. She thinks it is her roommate.

What better thread than the Superb Owl MMP to post this fine story of Flaco the Owl.

Flaco is an owl who escaped from New York’s Central Park Zoo. Recovery efforts ensued because it was feared that Flaco could not survive in the wild. But being a Superb Owl, Flaco proved them wrong, and is thriving on the ample supply of Central Park rats. Recovery efforts have now been suspended, and as Flaco’s belly grows larger, the Central Park rat population grows smaller:

Sorry, Levi shorts. It’s a bit too warm for leather shorts.

Which reminds me, I was watching QI and they mentioned Nellie Bly. Learned some more about her.

Today’s another warm day. Going to make deep dish pizza dough, for a late-ish lunch and see if the nanner pudding recipe I have is any good. Also have a recipe for peanut butter nanner cookies - might have to try that one as well. I’m not a big fan of cooking, but I definitely like to bake. And hubby’s happy to eat home-baked goods.

Also cleaned the shower and have the first of two loads of laundry in the washer.

The sun seems to be confused about coming out to shine - not sure if the cloudiness is going to win. Not the first time the weather forecast is a bit off.

Welcome back MetalMouse, looking forward to hearing more about the trip.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/52f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app is keeping it simple today and just says “Cloudy as fuck”. I’ll accept that, a look out of my window confirms cloudiness.

metalmouse welcome home! You should have enough stories to start your own MMP tomorrow

Wolfy thanks for sharing Flaco’s story, I hadn’t seen it before. Good to know that a Superb Owl is helping keep the rat population down in the park whilst being Superb.

rocker good to hear that Lager is perking up a bit now. Must be a better day for cats as Whisper has been eating more of his usual cat food today too.

nellie I haven’t heard any reports about arrests due to improper use of a compactor so I am guessing you are still safely on the outside

JtC yay for the new roof!

It’s Sunday and I have no real plans for the day. I was up earlier than usual, cats have been fed and litter trays are clean. I do need to get some more cat litter so I will have another cup of tea and then drive up to the retail park and see if the big pet store has litter. If not, I will have to call in at the supermarket on the way back and see if they have any. The car needs a wash too so perhaps the supermarket will get visited anyway since I can use their jet wash if it’s not too busy.

Waaaaaaaay back when I was about 20, traveling between duty stations, I stopped in Greeley, CO, to visit my very pregnant cousin. While there, she took me along to one of her pre-birthing classes - the one where they watched a film of childbirth. It wasn’t long before I was sitting with my head between my knees, surrounded by hugely pregnant women encouraging me to take deep breaths… Fortunately, I didn’t have to watch my birthing experience, altho FCD said it was fascinating. And I’d have done it again, had the stars aligned, but I was to have only one. Having 2 grands makes up for it!

OK, up after a night of weird dream snippets. Among them were Simon and Garfunkel - 1960’s vintage, someone spray-painting the hood of my car black (my car is blue), wading knee-deep in water full of sea nettles, and a woman preparing to interview someone by setting out a small bowl of spaghetti which I covered to keep it warm. My brain can be entertaining or perplexing.

We’re meeting Daughter et al at IHOP for breakfast. Then we might or might not go see Marlowe at the 1:30 showing. I’d like to see it, but I don’t know how we’ll fill the hours after breakfast without coming back home. So who knows. Nothing else planned - we’ll just wing it today.

Happy Sunday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 39 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 67 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization. I get to plop down in a pew today. Afterwards I shall assist in gettin’ the place ready for Lent and then get to burn the palms from Palm Sunday last year. For those that don’t know, the palms from last Palm Sunday are burned and the ashes used to schmutz folks’ foreheads on Ash Wednesday. After that we shall return to da cave for a leftover N.O.L. and the usual sloth and general overall uselessness.

Nellie glad you managed to stay out of the pokey.

JtC yay about the roof! Also good on y’all for takin’ pizza and sodas to the roofers. This will not be forgotten by them. I spent a lot of time on an aunts’s and uncle’s farm growin’ up, so seein’ animals give birth is no big deal for me.

rocker I feel ya about the paint. Five years ago da cave was repainted. We used two shades of gray throughout the livin’ room, dinin’ room, kitchen, and breakfast area. Lighter shade on top, darker shade on the bottom. It still looks good. The lighter gray was used throughout the rest of da cave and also still looks good. It boggles my mind to look at a little chip or swatch and imagine how a whole wall full of it will look.

wolfy great story about Flaco. He has a full belly and there are less rats in the park. WIN-WIN!

Dicey were they Daisy Dukes shorts?

BooFae glad Whisper is eatin’ more of his food. May he continue to get better.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

JtC, goats, like humans, produce colostrum as their first milk. It gets the newborn’s nutritional needs met, along with transferring some of the mama’s immunity. As far as the price of Nelson’s neutering, keep in mind that it was five years ago. The vet practice that I take him to trys to keep spay and neuter procedures affordable.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a small crock of black beans on, a big one of mojo poke and cilantro - lime slaw in the fridge. Shortly, I shall do breakfast / lunch prep for the week, then KP.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall do the usual cleaning, then sloth, or perhaps watch the Violent Speed Roundabout*.

< The New York Mafia likes this post >

I read that as “Low cost sin clinics”. Maybe this is why the priest always starts to cry and chug the Communion wine when I go to Confession.

*Daytona 500

Good morning!

It’s currently 41 degrees and dark outside. We will reach a high of 48 and the skies shall remain cloudy.

I’m glad to read Lager and Whisper are doing better.

Metal Mouse, I hope you’re sleeping well! Welcome back!

Yay for the new roof, JtC!

I can watch medical procedures or birth without batting an eye. I think I’m in the wrong field. Waaaaay back in the day, they used to have a show that showed medical procedures. I watched avidly. I’d call my husband in to see a portion and he’d just run out of the room.

We were unsuccessful in obtaining a UHaul yesterday, but have reserved one for today. My husband said let’s just come back tomorrow, and I insisted we reserve one so we’re committed. We’ll be heading back there around noon to pick up a truck so we can get rid of the stuff that needs to go such as two old doghouses that nobody wants, some broken yard tools and broken wheelbarrow, some big-ass branches from the giant fir tree in the neighbor’s yard, and various things in the garage. It’s only a 10-foot truck, so I think we’ll easily fill it halfway, if not more. I have a couple of items in the house I could toss too. Oh, some broken-down weed cloth that I want to pull out of the flowerbed at the bottom of my driveway. It’s sticking out and just looks like crap. I cringe every time I look at it and now is the perfect opportunity to pull it without it filling up my garbage bin.

They are still threatening us with lowland snow starting mid-week, but we’ll see what actually happens.

nellie, I’m glad you managed to evade going to compactor jail.

I was up at a stupidly early hour today, even though I went to bed around 11:00. I was really trying to sleep in just a little, but nope, wasn’t going to happen. I brewed my first cup of coffee at 3:15 this morning. I doubt I’ll sleep in tomorrow either.

I’ve started cleaning up the kitchen, so I better finish that and get the rest of the day started.

I hope you all have a very pleasant day!

 Nope, mid-thigh with cuffs. A better match for my current shape.

Nanner pudding recipe will be disposed of. It’s edible, but way too much cornstarch for the amount of sugar. That’s what I get for using a recipe from “Healthy Kids”.

Deep dish pizza was yum. Definitely keeping that recipe.

Sun’s still playing hide and see, so maybe I’ll try the cookie recipe next. After dessert.

(expletive) cat! Buddy apparently felt that letting me sleep much past about 5-ish was not acceptable. I’d gone to bed a bit after midnight. A certain orange pain in the tail is now outside (voluntarily). Hopefully, he’s back in soon and will let me go back to bed. Bonus annoyance points for deciding that bugging Allie while she was curled up on the foot of the bed trying to help me sleep was a good idea. Gotta love it when snarly hissy cat chases are going on on the bed I’m trying to sleep in, especially when the path is over the human.

Don’t Panic, the tempreture has risen to 42 degrees.

Could be worse. Once when I was lying on my bed, petting Maggie Wonderbeagle with my right hand and Lucretia D. Hellcatt with my left, they simultaneously decided that sharing was not an option. The moment I felt all the hackles go up, and they started shaking like they were a half second before there was gonna be a bout of Ultraviolence on my lap, I stopped scratching, threw my hands over my face, and started screaming “NOT THE FACE! NOT THE FACE!”

About that. Went to bed after 11pm, wanted to make sure my internal clock got reset with a long night’s sleep, so of course, the alarm I took on the trip and which has a alarm set switch that has gotten quite loose went off at 6;35am…oops, that’s Argentina time, it was 3:37AM. Couldn’t find it at first, thought it was my desk alarm and unplugged it, then found the little &*^^&%^ and de-battery-ed it and tossed it in the trash. Then I couldn’t manage to reprogram my desk alarm (it kept going off in nap mode), so I threw it out too (may retrieve it and try again now that I have slept a bit more). Then put a few things away and got my paper in since I was awake, and finally went back to bed until 8am. NOT the way I planned things…

JtC, great news about the roof. And cold is relative–I made it through Antarctica but can’t sit in my 70F house without a space heater.

wolfie, love the Owl story; at true New Yorker!!

See above. AM NOT getting up at 3:30am again!!

seanette, doggio, thank you both for stories that made me grin this morning.

Ok, off to…who am I kidding, I’ll browse the internet and catch up on some you tube channels and take a hot bath then off to Olive Garden…and probably nappage in the afternoon. Hope all y’all have more fun planned than that.

Spousal unit goes on YouTube to watch medical procedures and surgeries. Before he had his last few spinal surgeries, he’d look them up to see what they’d be doing to him. No thanks. I’ll pass.

We had a nice breakfast and now Daughter and her spawn are in the basement since her MIL didn’t want the kids today and it’s too cold to go to a playground. I started a fire and they’re watching TV and stuff. FCD was going to nap, but he’s in his recliner. I’m about to assume the recliner position, too, and read. I don’t think we’re going to the movies after all, which is fine. There’s always tomorrow, since we’re retired and all.

BTW, MetalMouse - welcome back!!

I’d be concerned that he could eat a rat that was poisoned. Every now and again one of the red tail hawks in nyc dies by eating a poisoned rodent.
