A Superb Owl MMP

Pizzas have been delivered to the roofers and they are really working. The old roof is mostly in the dumpster and they are repairing some punky patches of wood before putting the new tar down. If all continues to go well, they will be finished tonight.

This is wonderful, now they can get the kitchen licensed again and start selling food at events. They won’t make big money that way, but they will make lots of little bits of money AND they won’t be shelling out for emergency roof repairs every year.

I’d a been right there with you! Of course I’m terrified of pregnant women as well, so they wouldn’t have helped much either.

Yeah, I can’t do that either. Some folks have that talent, some of us just splash paint around and hope.

That’s my workaround when it comes to hubs as well. It is much harder for him to back out if something is already set up, especially when I put it on him to do the calling and canceling.

I feel very badly for laughing, I know it wasn’t funny at the time…
I hope you feel less discombobulated soon.

Since I have to go into the orifice Tuesday, I think I’ll make jambalaya for Lundi Gras instead of Mardi Gras. I usually make jambalaya in, and for, the office on Mardi Gras, but it’s a cow-orker’s birthday and they’re having an Italian potluck.

EDIT: Come to think of it, when do I make jambalaya for my wife and me? Maybe I always do it on Lundi Gras?

I can totally relate to the urge to trash an alarm clock :). My mother once threw hers out the window. Couple of problems with that: she hadn’t turned it off prior to launch, and she hadn’t opened the window first. Good thing that replacing windows was what my father did for a living.

When the feline battles come flying across the bed when I’m in it, I tend to pull the covers over my face in self-defense, while telling them to leave me out of their squabble.

I’m not that familiar with jambalaya, but if I’m not mistaken, it’s quite seasoned, so might do better made one day and reheated/eaten the next, to give flavors a chance to get acquainted.

metal mouse, I’m surprised that you have a travel alarm, now that you’ve joined the 21rst century and gotten a cell phone. :d&r:

I messed around in the studio all afternoon and made some headway on the Xmas card order. Sunday dinner of a mojo poke bowl with cilantro lime slaw on the side was yum!

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, then got the church house all ready for Lent and burned ashes. OYKW helped with all of that. I did not expect him too, and would have been fine if he had gone over to the Parish Hall to drink coffee and nosh goodies as is the wont of Whiskeypalians on a Sunday mornin’ after deheatenization. So, he earned major points today. Anywho, got that done, and then came back to da cave for a leftovers N.O.L. and nappage. The biiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Oh, and tomorrow is men’s night over to the church house, so steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. With that and pancakes on Tuesday, that’s two days of non-cookin’ at da cave. Works for me!

MetalMouse YIKES! That alarm would have had its demise post-haste if’n it were me.

Nettie jambalaya is a thing that’s much better reheated the next day. Of course, it’s also good the day its made. Glad you survived Catmageddon.

Mrs. L.A. saw the chicken and the shrimp I put in the fridge to thaw, and asked what I was making for dinner. I told her it was for jambalaya mañana. Tonight we’re having rib-eye steaks (broiled, because the barbie is covered up) and small baked potatoes.

Half-six, and the deadcow and tubers have been ingested.

The community center roof is completed! The materials came with a 20 year guarantee, and the roofer who donated his time as well as paying his crew to do this has promised to come back if we have any issues.

I took a couple of 12 packs of beer to the crew and they didn’t seem to mind that it was just Bud and Coors, they said thank you and smiled. I hope they waited until the got home to start drinking them.

Now, if the IRS would get off their collective butts and give us a 501c tax number for the other center we could get that roof redone this month as well. Lowes needs that to be able to write off the materials, they won’t even order them until the IRS does their thing.

For some reason, today was loud kitty day. VBC spent much time giving the birds a piece of her mind, Crabby Old Cat spent a good half an hour or so telling his mousies who’s boss and GG, who is always vocal of course just had to be involved because of course he does.

Dinner was a govment cheese, surplus ham and broccoli quiche. For a while we were getting lots of fresh broccoli in our surplus boxes, so I blanched and froze most of it cause we both really like broccoli and I can’t grow it in the desert heat cause it bolts like nobodies business.

Hubs had to buy eggs at Dollar General and we were both surprised that they were down to 6 bucks a dozen.

I’m probably going to go and visit the baby goats tomorrow. I really like goats, and despite being terrified of newborn humans (anyone seeing a pattern here?), I’m good with all newborns of other species and baby goats are no exception!

I cleaned, I napped, I gave myself a haircut, I watched some YouTube and some Wednesday. I’m having a Wisconsin Old Fashioned, and waiting for the meatloaf and mashed potatoes to be ready.

Whenever I had the windows open, Alex Catt would always sing The Song Of Her People at the flying foods.

You too? Both of mine have been quite talkative today, and Misty also has much to say. I do hope Buddy can shut up tonight so I can get some decent sleep. Part of his problem last night was that DH was up (insomnia) while I was down, and Buddy seems to find “one’s still up, the other’s in bed” somehow hard to cope with without a great deal of fuss.

The quiche does sound great. I find myself wondering how to hunt down something similar to your surplus boxes in my area.

Evening all. I was slightly active early, went to Olive Garden for dinner and then to Wal-Mart for new alarm clocks (they were remarkably cheap). However, the Girl Scouts ambushed me coming out of the store and forced me to but their cookies…   Got a box of ‘Adventurefuls’, an “Indulgent brownie-inspired cookie with caramel flavored creme and a hint of sea salt”. They are now history, there is a very good reason I do not buy cookies for the house. Most of the rest of the afternoon was catching up with many of the you tube channels I subscribe to (there are a couple that I’ll need some time this week to do). Bedtime will be early tonight so I hopefully will sleep through and can actually accomplish something tomorrow.

Seanette, never felt the need to pitch something out the window, but I understand the emotion perfectly. Hopefully feline peace has been restored,

red, I’m getting much better on the phone, but still prefer an actual clock for timing.

JtC, it is amazing how fast replacing a roof can go. Glad you had a big hand in getting it done.

Ok, lack of sleep is beginning to creep up on me, so bed-time will be early and (hopefully) not interrupted this time around. All y’all take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

:people_hugging:

The jays were telling VBC to come out and say it to their faces, so I guess we need to count them too. Just a really noisy day!

Do you have a local community or senior center? I know that you are not seniors, but they might have helpful information for you.

Also, I’ll bet you are qualified for food stamps ATM. Your savings account won’t count against your eligibility, all that matters is how much income your family has had this month. I’ll bet you can apply online and get a general idea as to if you are qualified for enough to bother with.

When I walked off the job, there was a brief period of time when I was eligible for food stamps…but at the old fart special of 15 bucks a month. If hubs had been younger, we would have been in a different income category. I spent an entire day doing all the stuff AND I couldn’t do the interview at my old office because that would have been a conflict of interest, so I drove over 100 miles to get it done.

Why? Well…because if I was on food stamps, my state issued Medical Marijuana Card would be half price.

Oh, and also because that would qualify us for a 25% discount on our electric bill for a year. That was the gift that keeps on giving, the world ended and the electric company didn’t look at our discount for 2 years and then sent us a letter telling us that we had to requalify. We sent them our tax documents showing that we were not income eligible and they renewed us for another year and now it is just a yearly thing. We are pretty sure that nobody has ever bothered to actually look at what we have sent them and now that he is officially OLD (70) we have been grandfathered in so they just want to know that we are still alive once a year.

I refuse to let those little terrorists get to me with all of their new fangled recipes. I just toss money at them and grab my box of thin mints and scamper off.

hmmmm caramel and sea salt you say? hmmmm

It really was amazing, I had no idea! I mean we had our roof replaced here, but I was at work and didn’t see it, but it was done in a day. The community center’s roof was much bigger than ours (5500 sf) so I guess I thought it would take three days or so.

When we went to see the finished product, they wouldn’t let us into the pretty big parking lot because they were using the magnet rakes alllllll the way out, just to be sure. They still kept us out when I showed them the beer, but they raked a whole bunch faster.

You bet I’ll be recommending that roofer to all and sundry!!!

hey has shoe been by recently? @purplehorseshoe @Filbert yall need to stop by for a few secs …
